I started late too. What works for me personally is to focus only on two things when weaving, make sure theres enough metal to fill every crevice and to stick to the exact same motion and speed from start to finish
So what is the best technique? Straight forward, in circles or in diagnal lines? Cause i was thaught to do half moon shapes, but i dont see it here. So whats best?
@@hnorrstrom Me too, I am returning to welding as a retirement hobby after 35 years. I was taught in the UK and we were taught half moons. Maybe it's a European technique.
It reminds me of when I was learning to weld and my son,(who is a welder) would be over my shoulder saying do this or that and each time I would learn another trick to weld a bit better. Great video!

Ich bin selbst Schweißer und hab das über zwanzig Jahre gemacht. Es gibt immer Leute die ein großes Maul haben und meinen sie können alles besser. Ich sag's dir: nicht von denen entmutigen lassen, immer weitermachen. Auslernen tust du niemals dabei, hab Spaß beim Schweißen!
Habe ich vor 40 Jahren so ähnlich gelernt, das ist wie Fahrradfahren, einmal richtig gemacht und weiter so. Für einen Laien schwierig durchzuführen, weil dann die Materialkunde fehlt.

i am a welder with 2 years of experience and i can give an advice for all 3 of these types of "layering": 6013 can be defined as 2 in 1 (can be used like 6010 and 7018) unless you give a shit, then call it 6013 going straight: that is literally what 6013 is used for. weaves: one of the best ways to hold two plates (or any metal) together. however, it takes practice in order to keep a "straight" line. circles: do NOT do this! your just sandwiching slag in between each layer. (don't believe me? try doing butt-plate like that as a cap and bend it, you'll see all the slag in between each layer come out.) all-in-all: 2 of the welds look great! your weave's look spot-on! but circles does not work well in any welds (unless your a shitty RV repair man, then go ahead).
This taught me (and I’m assuming everyone else that wasted 7mins of their life) absolutely nothing. Why do i need to learn weaving in electric welding? You didn’t even answer your own question
@@mikec.8556 understood. If the specs call for more than just securely joining 2 pieces of steel - ie an excess of welding material - then weave-welding is the way to go. I'm only an amateur welder but, as with any / all work I undertake, I like the end result to be as neat as possible. As an amateur, my understanding is that once the valley between the pieces is filled the result is as strong as if it were originally 1 piece. So I'm still at a loss to understand why / under what circumstances I might need to weave-weld. What benefits does weave-welding offer that 'clean' welding does not?? Unfortunately I find 'professional' welders to be extremely reluctant to give up their 'secrets'. I'm coming to the conclusion they're afraid the world will discover that welding is not such a ''specialised skill' after all.

Как правило из земли выкапывают две пластины толщиной 60-70 мм, макают в солидол, делают разделку кромок шириной 1/10 метра, находят максимально толстый электрод, (за не имением оного арматурину) и варят на максимально возможном токе обычно 300-500а( обязательно нужно приговаривать про себя " ток ураганный - шов монолитный")
Not that I use stick welding common but it Is always good to maintain the skills. When I was having a exam for stick welding in my school time, I had beautiful welding but failed the questions 😅 I was so devastated... but got my diploma next time🤭 next some pipe welding and explain what kind of rods to use?
Depends what type of rod it is, and what you're doing with it. Fillets on steelwork with iron powder rods for example, dont always peel, the slag often pops off in one piece. Or a pipe open root with a 7016 dcen, it clinhs to the weld and the preps, but comes off with a hand wire brush
Unless its the stainless steel rods that Ive used tho. Those things are a safety hazard. The metal cools and shrinks and slowly small bits of slag gets shot off the weld, and into your eyes
(SECOND COMMENT) ...one side to the other. Adjust heat so the weld is almost flat when the bead is done that's when you know you got good penetration. It's literally all about practice. I watch behind the arc at the dim area where the puddle cools. If it looks like both pieces are cooling evenly and not more on one piece than the other then I don't adjust my circles or stick angle. But when you just start out, pay attention to that area and slightly change your method and see how it affects the cooling puddle. Problem with welding is people think they can study it and ask a million questions and it will just suddenly become clear to them. When in reality you just need to practice all day everyday and by the end of the week, you'll probably understand how to do it right.
(FIRST COMMENT)Just practice. Don't get complacent and only try one method. Once you can build knowledge on what you were doing and how the weld turned out you can tweak your method. Just don't hold the rod too far from the material otherwise you get pinholes. Always lead the stuck across the joint, don't push the puddle. I've always had the best luck with small circles, just be consistent with them and the weld will be parallel from

Great video , yes its all practice , like most things in life really. But arc length is the real secret to master , after that the rest seems to fall into place easily.
@@therealspixycat as a rule of thumb arc length wants to be the distance that the metal in the middle of the rod is ... adjust slightly to suit after that .. but that's my rough guide.
@@TheAefril yeah just the diameter of the metal core of the rod. Although with low hy rods, you need a shorter arc than that, ideally as short as possible without stubbing it out👍

Richtig gut und wenn es Anfänger sind und nicht verstehen sollen sie auch so oft wie möglich Üben , du hast es auch gezeigt mit dem Strom Einstellungen für jedes Stil und am Ende auch die Unterschiede zum pendeln gezeigt warum es so aussieht wer das nicht begreift soll garnicht zum schweissen anfangen . So, at first, I disagreed a little bit, then I realized that it's 601x rod, not 7018, lol. 7018 is a bit different technique and behavior. It would not produce such a nice weld running that height/angle, and the asthetics would be off with those movements. For 60 series, these are very nice welds. Going to retry these next time I pick up some 6010, which is rare.
My boss loves 6011 and mostly because It says they work with less than clean metals....so they never clean anything before they weld it and it shows...
it’s so that you can make a bigger weld and not small stringers, it’s also so you can deposit more metal into what ever your welding, for example I had a hatchet for work that had a wood handle that broke, so I grabbed an old metal hammer that I had and cut the head off so that I only have now is a metal handle, I grinded my metal handle and shaped it so that I can fit the handle in threw my metal hatchet head . On the side of the head and the Handle where I shaped it where nice and tight but I had big void at the top the widest part was about 1-1/2 “ and a stringer wouldn’t have filled that gap so I weaved it nice and slow so that I can deposit more Metal into my weld in order to fill the big gap and to also be able to do a one time pass without run more than one pass.
@Ban this youtube also, not sure why they frown upon it, but I learned weaving in school for stick and when I got a job welding, they said not to do that. I have a cousin in pipe welding, whose welded for years and he said it’s called Texas weaving haha

Weaving is useful when filling in gaps or buttering but results in excessive heat input. Navy code requires stringers so it is is imperative you learn stringers. I am still a novice so this is just an opinion.
In this video the welds are done with a 7018 rod. Old school welders call 7018 rods "drag rods" you do not need weave them. They rods weave themselves as you drag the rod.

@@jamesordwayultralightpilot Yup ((((((((((( but that's what I use for cap welds, gives a nice look, I also point the tip away from the weld and not towards it, helps push impurities away from the weld. Instead of pulling your bead you would be pushing it.

People don't like 6013 here so much, but they aren't getting the beautiful bead and clean slag release that we see here. Are these Korean welding rods? ESAB? I got some from India online that behaved very well, and gave clean results, but not like this.

덮어놓고 위빙을 해선 안되고 모재와 용접봉이 녹으면서 용접부위에 용융된 쇳물이 제대로 용입이되는지 보면서 진행하는게 용접의 핵심입니다. 용접봉이 녹으면서 쇳물이 물결치며 나가는걸 볼수있으면 용접이 되는것이고 피복제가 녹으면서 부글거리는 용융액을 쇳물로 오인하면 용접이 안되는것이죠

weaving deposits more weld deposits but you're gonna need shit load of rods depending on the type of groove you're gonna fill

I use stick welding more often then mig and tig welding for sure it sure comes in handy to know a good technique

Try low hydrogen rods 🤣
It applies only on thick materials

According to thickness, it needs to adjust amperes. When performing elec-welding, just do it. If you wanna make a clear line.

Weaving is actually frowned upon in most shops, stringers are the way to go.

전기용접에서의 위빙은 현장에서의 전류 상태, 용접기의 상태에 따라 아크가 불안정할때 사용하기도 하고 동영상에 나온 일정한 움직임의 위빙을 할때는 모재의 성질에 따라 달라집니다. 특히나 전기용접의 경우 용접봉의 종류에 따라 위빙하는 방법이 천차만별입니다. 모재나 용접봉마다 열전도율, 용접법이 다르기때문입니다. 때로는 후처리작업을 줄이기 위해서 사용하기도 합니다. 티그, 이산화탄소나 질소용접등은 전기용접에 비해 아크가 안정적이기에 그 성질이 다르다고 생각합니다.
Weaving is useful when filling in gaps or buttering but results in excessive heat input. Navy code requires stringers so it is is imperative you learn stringers.

In this video the welds are done with a 7018 rod. Old school welders call 7018 rods "drag rods" you do not need weave them. They rods weave themselves as you drag the rod.

It's the penetration that counts the flux capa a pretty pass is nice but theyre not always the strongest.

I'm confused also, I welded 100's of kilos of sticks and this video don't provide any info what so ever.
Those are excellent welds but if you just sit the rod in there and watch the puddle and move accordingly it’s the same result aka stringers

I've always alternated depending on what works best. Sometimes it really feels like one works better than the other.
@@jamesordwayultralightpilot Yup ((((((((((( but that's what I use for cap welds, gives a nice look, I also point the tip away from the weld and not towards it, helps push impurities away from the weld. Instead of pulling your bead you would be pushing it.

Третий способ мне не нравится. Уж больно шлака много перетикает в сварочную ванну. Подскажите, почему аппарат так плюëтся? У меня на инверторе примерно столько же искр и окалин как на видео, но до ремонта таких нареканий не было

OOOh! "Slag Peel"! We love that. I was very much wondering about the type of rod! People don't like 6013 here so much, but they aren't getting the beautiful bead and clean slag release that we see here. Are these Korean welding rods? ESAB? I got some from India online that behaved very well, and gave clean results, but not like this.
