When you plug in the CRN to the bike, it transfers all connection ability to the CRN. The TFT is no longer used. You connect to the CRN, not the TFT.

These problems are well known to BMW, since they have launched the connected app on mobile devices. I was told the problems get resolved by the update announced to be available early November 2023. The new Connected Ride Navigator is not just another device more robust vs mobile devices. It’s functionality has increased dramatically. First, it’s a media hub, integrating phone, music, headsets and all of the BMW motorbike data available in TFT mode, when in use. The navigation capabilities will be better too, compared to the connected App. Zooming in and out the map area in use while navigation is no longer restricted. Further, with a fingertip you can shift the map area of detail in all directions while driving and zooming in and out. Pressing the finger on the map will allow you to place a new way/shaping point if needed. These and more features remind me to the look and feel of the former navigator I have been using since years. One thing I am really missing, however, is the ability to to show routes and tracks on the map at the same time. At least I haven’t found a solution yet. If the earlier mentioned problems get resolved, this device might be a sound basis for future software developments and a worthy replacement of all former BMW Navigators. And: I do hope that BMW is continuing on its track of customer oriented agile way of working in further developing this connected ride approach any further.

Hi Dragon Rider, i got the CRN my self in use. The CRN is the new connectivity center and replaces the functions of the tft. So the sync to the connected ride app runs over WLAN or 4G between the CRN and the app (therefore you have to login with your BMW-ID). Helmet and phone have to be only connected to the CRN, so all runs without issue. You only use the CRN, there is no need for the app on the bike while riding.

Thankyou for the update. I have connected my ID to the CRN but was just perplexed if the TFT has Bluetooth functionality then this new device has rendered the TFT usless over than a nice display.
I would have liked to have seen some integration ie using the CRN for navigation you get a phone call and instead of losing the navigation display the call details come up on the TFT.
      Just for an example.

As of 1st Feb there is another update v1.0.2 has been released. Having struggled for 12 months with the NAV VI both in terms of connectivity and route following I really hope the CRN overcomes these. So far connectivity between phone and Cardo Packtalk Bold have been excellent. Up loading routes via phone Connected App is simple. Proof will be following imported routes and how well that works. Have uploaded some routes from RouteYou so if weather ok at weekend will do some test runs. Fingers crossed but on the techs side, with CRN updates installed first impressions are good

Hello there your videos are always immensely helpful - I found connecting the way you have caused my phone calls to be silent, no audio but calls could be made and cancelled - I am using a Scale Edge fully updated. I found a solution: Connected as you have but connected phone to TFT as Phone 2, and to NAV as GPS connection, this has allowed all functions to work on Nav and TFT. Only glitch I have at present is that after making a call music continues with no sound. If I pause and resume music sound is restored.

I understand your frustration, to a degree. I have been using the connected nav for about 3 weeks now and I'm generally very pleased with it's functionality. EXCEPT THAT - the touch screen appears to have stopped working. I had it working for the initial setup and once since but, it no longer appears to work. I am back at the Dealers on Friday and I'll see what they have to say. The biggest issue IMO is NO FRIGGING MANUAL.

    • @lubebosch
      @lubebosch ปีที่แล้ว

I had the same issue, I solved the problem disconnecting the battery for a couple of minutes. Then I reconnected the battery and started charging via USB, everything started working again. My concern is that, apparently, leaving the NAV on the bike cradle while the bike is not used, the NAV discharges completely, which brings again to the same point. So you have to take out the NAV from the bike even if you leave it in your home garage, which seems to me a nonsense

Hi thanks for el video, I have a query.
Can I use this new connect rider only as a gps? And still use TFT to handle music? I like being able to see the road in the gps (like I did in the old navigator 6) and have the music, calls and so on be used by the tft?
I like the fact that I can change the song just by moving the wheel and being able to lower and increase the volume also just by moving the wheel, if I use this new connect rider, I would have to leave the map, go to the music section and change the song, and then, return to the map, I don't know if I understand?

I suspect this is about "Capabilities". When a device is connected over bluetooth, it doesn't need to just know connection details, it needs to know what capabilities the device has. For example, if my GoPro and a headset are connected to my phone, how does it know to send a phone call to the headset and not the camera? When the connection is first made, the capabilities are negotiated between them and when you have a single device to device connection all is ok. When you have two call capable devices however, which one should it use? For this when making the connection, you have to change what capabilities are used. For example, looking on your CRN connections, see the Music and Phone icons next to the connection? Those capabilities are enabled on those connections. On your phone (mine is Android) checking the bluetooth connection, I can enable / disable the various capabilities. The main thing is, only one device can handle mobile calls - this is a limit of bluetooth, not the bike. You choose which one you want to use. It took me a long time to get to this point on the old Nav6 - where my phone can be connected to both, but calls only enabled on one, data enabled on both. I'm hoping it's the same on the new CRN (arrived today). I share your frustration with BMW over this, we're buying premium products, we shouldn't have to learn this stuff from youtube.

    • @DC1008

If you have your cell phone connected to the connectride, can you also connect it to the motorcycle like when you used the navigator 6??? Or could you no longer connect it and everything would be handled through connectride? And the last question, if you are looking at the map of where you are going on the connectride, how do you change music? Do you have to stop looking at the map, go to the media, and then change it? If so, it would be a problem. Before, you only changed with the wheel, and in Navigator 6 you continued to see the map of where you were going.

@@DC1008, This is not accurate. You can control media (basic functions) from the nav or bike info screens. There is a hidden function bar on the right side of the display.
You get to this hidden favorites bar with either a long finger press on the far right side of the screen (where the regular function bar lives), or by long pressing right on the handlebar control wheel. Once up, that hidden function bar has buttons for play/pause, next track, back, mute mic, and hang up call (by default). These options are configurable (under Settings -> System -> Favorites Bar), allowing them to be reordered as desired. There is also a function not assigned by default for skip waypoint. There are only 5 total favorites bar positions though, so to add the skip waypoint function you must eliminate another.
Hope this helps. Took me a while to find that hidden favorites bar myself. I went looking for it when I saw the settings menu. BMW really should provide some sort of actual documentation/manual with this device.
