Social media is a cheap substitute for real connection, real learning, advancement etc. It also makes your brain tired by constant overstimulation.

I'm 35 so I feel exactly what you are saying.i been gone from Facebook for almost 60 days now. That's all I had, but God knows it's so worth it. Listening to music I grew up with on CD without checking my phone feels sooo good!, More in touch with my surroundings and the people in life that matter, back working out , reading, taking more time for self care, feeling like a human being again, not influenced by any social site for my feelings. I'm never coming back and God knows it

@@kennyg.6608 A good book, a good movie, good company, good music, they fill our existential void. We need to seek refuge in quality content that makes sense. Using social media to interact sparingly is the right way. But living for them is not healthy. We are beings in search of recognition. I exist if the other sees me. Social media leverages that. The laughter of being addicted is very great. Large corporations see this as an opportunity for profit, they don't care about the individual's psychological well being, unfortunately. The best way is to try not to enter this vicious cycle. We need to build our own opinion without interference from the interests of large companies and brands.

im almost 19. ive had social media since i was 8 years old. my other friends had instagram and my parents gave in to my complaining and me begging. i regret wanting wanting social media for it everyday. my life has changed for the worst. i've on and off quite social media, everytime hoping it's the last time and i'm social media free forever. - at least i'm trying right? everyone says "turn notification off and leave your phone in a different room" which i never did until 6 hours ago. wow it helps. theres nothing to distract you. i truly hope i can wake tomorrow, meditate, sit in nature with a coffee and start my social media free life for the 4th time.

@John Dixon , dude I feel complete sorrow for the kids growing up today that have no idea how and what life was like before social media. And the adults abusing it daily are just programmed!.... The kids are going to grow up influenced by what the parents doing to a large degree. It's fucked up all the way around. People are losing touch of reality because of this. I'm incredibly thankful i got away from it before 2020 was out, and God knows I will keep it this way

I deleted my social media a month ago and I have struggled with anxiety for years. A few days after deleting social media my anxiety was gone. I’m much happier. I’m not seeing negative things daily and I honestly think it’s helped my mental health. Im getting more done everyday. Sounds crazy but I have changed so much since deleting my social media. Ellona I 💯 agree with your comment here. SM instigates anxiety, comparing life to others whereas they’re only showing the highlight reels of their lives. It’s fake & disrupted so many lives. Was stalked for over a decade the stalker posted abuse via a fake account & still stalked me until I came off. I’ve been on & off platforms & everytime I’ve become less anxious & more at peace. God is important in all believers lives. I only have you tube now because I feel this platform is the most positive with a wealth of information. Go all us sm deleters 🌈❤️🙏🏼

I feel like TH-cam is like a tv station. It only gets out of hand when creators post daily like during vlogmas... With that said, I was able to quit my other social media by giving God my first part of my day so I started listening to Christian podcasts the first hour of the day and reading at least 2 chapters in the Bible. After 21 days it became my habit and gave me clarity to get rid of the junk I didn’t need in my life.

I deleted socials when I got so tired of feeling resentful, unworthy, and sad every single day, that I literally couldn’t make another choice but to get rid of it. There is nothing I was getting from it that I don’t get now, but BETTER, even as a biz owner. I own two companies and they both work just fine off socials. I say this as a lifeline to anyone debating whether to take the chance. You can have yourself back and you can feel good again ✨

I’ve been off of Instagram for almost 2 months now and it honestly feels like a burden being lifted off of my shoulders . As much as I enjoyed putting out song covers there , I feel a part of me gets attached the validation that comes from your followers. And personally for me , growth is when I see a change in myself and my skill and not external validation . And so these 2 months I’ve spent so much time practicing ( the pockets of you time mentioned) and just reading and watching movies and I realised how less I ten to compare myself with anyone . Instagram kind of forced to constantly question everything I have and who I am with respect to tigger people - despite me being aware of all of this and that my journey is different from anyone I know. I think I’m only going to go back once I’m capabele and mentally stronger and disciplined to not let it consume me . Loved your thoughts man , amazing video !! Thank youuuu❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I’ve lived my first 40 years without social media and we either had to call or visit people to see or talk to someone. My last 11 years has been on Facebook. We moved 600 miles away from all our family and friends so Facebook has been great way to connect without seeing or calling someone. Taking breaks from Facebook is better solution than just leaving it. I only have 75 friends on Facebook so its just people I know.

But after that I got back at it and tried partial decisions like limiting the screen time and not using apps, but it didn't really work. On the 1st of January 2021 quit social media completely and when I saw my therapist at my next appointment (about two weeks into quitting) she was blown away with the difference in me. Almost a month on and my anxiety is practically non-existent and my productivity is through the roof without the distraction of social media. Thank you so much, Jordan. And all of those people who already quit social mecia for good. I'm a street busker here in the Philippines, and it's kinda hard to let social media go because of what I do. I became an attention seeker, wanted more likes and shares on everything that I post whether it's nonsense or regarding to music. I became toxic. It wasn't good for me anymore. So I took action, and I quit social media for good because now I prefer peace of mind than my career. Thank you. You guys inspire me a lot. :) God bless you.

I'm finding yt videos about this quitting social media thing and saw this. I haven't deleted my social media yet but I am in a phase of detoxing from it, I uninstalled my instagram, facebook and tiktok all at the same time. I haven't done this before, because I would always leave atleast 1 app when I do detox from social media. But now, it's just almost a month of being away from those apps and I am seeing results already. But honestly, there's a lot of uncomfortability and awkwardness I feel right now because of the change in my habit but I would say my mind is in a more peaceful state right now than a month ago. Thank you for this video! I feel inspired to continue this journey of healing from that social media addiction. God bless!

One of the most productive times academic wise I had was when I deleted my facebook and instagram accounts. I got back to them simply for fear of missing out and fear of being a complete stranger due to not consuming social media content. To be honest, I'm going to quit them back pretty soon. My life routine was way better, so why not?

I'm 16 and I guess I can say I'm both lucky and in an unfortunate place. as a kid, I quite literally grew up with social media, born in 2005 alongside youtube, a year after Facebook, and a year before Twitter, as well as other major platforms. I say I'm lucky in the sense that since these were still brand new and not as widely used or even known as they are today, I still got to experience a childhood of playing outside, nervously knocking on the neighbour's door to ask to play and be friends with their kid, spending my time using my imagination to play and create these worlds in my mind. however, I still had the benefit of technology and computer games but at that age not used very heavily. I'm lucky that I'm not one of the kids being born today where a lot of them won't get to experience any of this. I still get to look back and have an understanding of what my life was like before it was consumed with social media and carry that with me into the future. unfortunate in the sense that eventually at some point that was all lost. I started spending more time in bed or on my phone than I was outside, lost most of my hobbies and interests, never had any real experiences between the ages of 10-now that are worthy of looking fondly upon as most of my time was spent not in the real world if. it's destroyed my mental health and delayed my social developmental skills as I've refused to make any real-life connections. looking back now, I can tell that I have been realizing more and more how much I hate myself and my life. that sounds depressing but I mean it in the sense that I've been angry at myself for letting my life escape me, I've wasted so much of my time, compared myself to idealistic realities that don't even exist, never put myself out there or let myself live in the real world. I have almost completely removed myself from social media (deleted Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, Facebook, discord, twitch, and probably others I don't remember *edit* TikTok) over the past little while. my focus is increasing, I'm happier I've been in a couple years, mentally and physically healthier, for the first time since I don't remember I actually feel like there are 24 hours in a day, I'm more motivated and excited for my future for the first time in my life. it was also a good test to see which of my friends actually care to talk to me to message me via my phone # and not just Instagram or smt for the sake of convenience or sending a meme. while I have other problems in my life but this has alleviated a lot of stress, sounds ridiculous coming from a 16 yr old you don't need to inform me, and I can't see myself going back. for the first time I'm so excited to see what I can do in the future and who I will meet.

Great video! You addressed this briefly in your previous video, but I wanted some more clarity on this: can you be a content creator on YT without marketing your content on IG or other platforms? Especially when you’re starting out.
Also, there are many folks, like myself, who graduated in a foreign country. recently during COVID and had to return back to their home country due to the pandemic. Staying on Social media has really become a dilemma now. I feel good not having it on my phone, but simultaneously feel like I’ll be a hermit if close all doors for people to reach out to me from the country where I graduated who are not around me geographically.
    Thoughts?
    Keep up the good content!

It drives me insane that there’s a 30 day window when you try to permanently delete Instagram. I’m up for this challenge though. I hate social media with a passion. I can’t wait to reclaim my time and energy. I’ll spend time doing the things I love, focus solely on the present and cherish my real relationships. Even just two days off it I’ve got so much time to reconnect with myself. I feel lighter, less anxious, more present.
