Life Without A Smartphone // Could You Survive?

  • After deleting social media for 2 years, I decided it was time to get rid of my smartphone. 📲 I was burnt out, lazy and comparing myself with everyone online. I realized we'd rather believe that life is out of control than to actually have to take control and do something about it.
I spent the past 3 months living life without my smartphone. I've learned so many things through this experience that i'm going to share on this video. My focus and memory improved immediately after I started spending less time on my phone. The less time I spent on technology, the more I started to read and embrace alone time.
Although technology benefits the world, it often takes so much from us. It steals our peace, happiness and contentment that we so deeply need. It's not about getting rid of your smartphone forever, but learning to spend less time on it. Take steps away and begin to experience the real world again. Lay down what is promising you happiness and pickup the things that actually give it to you.

By the way, in response to something you said. It actually is NOT a pain to get rid of a smart phone. You just have to re-train your brain to remember what it's like to not have the internet at your fingertips 24/7. It is absolutely possible and quite frankly, better for life.

Sincerely dude, smartphones are on the market more than a decade and you just figured this out in 2021??? Man, as a long time Android user since the Galaxy S2 came out, I didn't install any of that social craps on all my devices that I have used through the years, now that I have smartphones running Android 11 and I still use my smartphones the same way I did 10 years ago and smartphones don't consume my time at all.
Don't get me wrong, smartphones are amazing gadgets but sometimes it ends up in the hands of people who can't control their addiction for the likes of social media.
I won't hide that I'm a heavy user when I'm home but outside, I just use my smartwatch as a remote controller for my earbuds , so my phone won't be seen as a distraction and can stay in my pocket, I don't like being distracted when I'm outside.
Smartphones in question don't come preloaded with social media and pubg Mobile, so why not use it's basic functionality like we used to do back in the days of the Motorola razr v3x when a MP3 player and making phone calls were more than sufficient to many mobile phone users.

I am right in that situation as well. I had a great memory, now I need my alarms to remember everything. I really hate the smartphone to the point of just throwing it in a recycle bin. I have it on me all the time. I get panicked if I leave it at home. I was on a 2 hr train journey last Yr and everyone had their phones out. I did start to look at mine but I switched it off and just looked out the window.

Actraully that is not true. The first smart phone was introduced in the 1990’s. It was the Siamon communicator by I.B.M. So it did come out in the 1990’s. Actually siamon was introduced in early 1990. People think that the smart phone which we know of today came out in 2007. That is also incorrect. Yes. The first iPhone came out in 2007. The iPhone 2g but the first smart phone came out in 1994. The first smart phone was not the iPhone it was the Siamon communicator. People believe that the first iPhone was iPhone 1 that is not true. It was the 2g. Or better know as iPhone with IPhone O.S. Now it is I.O.S. The iPhone 2g was the original iPhone and it ran off of 2g cellar network. But the first smartphone was the Siamon communicator. And that was dissscontinued a year later due to lack of purchasing. Apple revolunizied the smart phone and took all the buttons that previous smart phones had and made everything touch screen. Many people think the iPhone was the first smart phone but that is wrong. I am an apple fan boy actually a true iPhone user. But you have to look back in history about the smart phone. It all started with visions back in the early 1990’s and then come 1994, Siamon was released.

I think you can live just fine without a smartphone. It was done in the seventies eighties and nineties and people live just fine. Get a landline phone so that you can receive calls at home. And then get a cheap flip phone to keep in your car in case you have to call somebody or they have to call you but then you just give them your home phone number. For GPS you can buy a GPS unit that is just as accurate as someone on your phone without the service and go anywhere you want or learn to read actual Maps

With this day in age those things are never coming back. You can’t live without a smart phone these days. Many places require you to have a phone to get things done. Yes. That old tech worked back then but now we are living totally different times. Many places you go don’t even use paper menus anymore in restaurants. You have to look on a smart phone. The smart phone is required these days to get work done and other things. Hell people don’t even use a computer that much anymore. They just the phone they use the phone cause the smart phone actually is just as fast as a modern computer and you can do so much with it. The iPhone is like a mini Mac. You don’t need a P.C. Or desk top anymore. Even many people have indicated they don’t even check the computer when they get home cause your phone can do all of that. Back in the day with early smart phones, they required a computer to depend on you could do very little with a early smartphone cause it had to do with companionship of the computer. Now days, you don’t relie on a computer. Everything is done via smart phone. Even to make your smart phone a computer just get a Bluetooth keyboard and printer. You really don’t need even your phone to connect to iTunes via computer cause it is already done. On the new modern iPhone you can even delete your ringtones. You don’t have to no longer sink with iTunes to do that. Everything is done on the phone. So you can’t go back in time and relive it those days are gone and the days of push buttons phones are no longer. Maybe some companies are trying to remake them but they are not like what they use to bee. Al phones these days really have moved to touch screen based operation. You see so many more touch screen phones today than push button. The push button phone is pretty much obsolete. Back then you could live in society without a cell phone cause everyone did it and times were way different. Now days, we can not live without a smart phone. The modern day society is way to fast pace, and requires many operations to bee done on a smart phone. Whether you face that or not. Everything requires a smart phone these days from banks, to restaurants to bus and air Tranzit. The only thing old school I do is still walk into the bank and talk with the teller to deposit my checks even then you can do that on line but it is better to go in that is good cause you are facing the teller to do that. But as far as checking on line how much i have that is done with my iPhone. I don’t even call the bank up to check status. That is through the banking app. So everything today in this fast pace life we are living is not going to bee like what it was back in the 190’s. Yes. The songs back then we’re great. Nothing like the 1980’s and 190[s.but as far as tech you have to face that we are living in smart phone territory. Just because you could get by without a smart phone in yesteryears doesn’t mean that that same rule applies today. Today is a totally different time. Back when i was a kid we had rotary phones i get it and life was different. But we have moved on. Now with my work, I don’t have to ask someone when I have another gig. I am a pianist. Reading my emails and checking my calendar daily that is all done with my phone. I don’t have to ask. “When is my next gig.” Everything is sent via email through the automatic calendar back then you couldn’t do that and you had to search but now days things are so much more accessible. So to say you can live without a smart phone these days is not possible. Everything requires a smart phone whether you have android or apple. It’s not like back then and I am afraid to say some people are stuck back in the past. Yes. Those days were different and simple but now days it is just to complex with fast work pace and work flow. You need a devise that is going to help you in your daily tasks and that is where a smart phone comes in. Why have all these things when your smart phone has even a better camera than some digital cameras. With your phone you have accurate g.P.S. To get you home. Maps and cameras and banking is all in one device. Why are you going to fill your life with so many things when a smart phone has everything in one package. Life is suppose to bee easier on you with fast pace work life not harder. And this is not my opinion it is todays society that we are living in. If you don’t have a smart phone or cell phone you are shit out of luck. Even the modern iPhone sounds like a mini theater. The sound is so good.

I have not had a cell phone nor a TV of any kind for 14 years and I'm very happy with that. If you want a phone, get a landline with an answering machine. I guarantee that you won't miss any calls. If you are not home when people call you, they can leave a message and you can get back with them. Life is not all about being connected to everyone in the world. They will get over it if you are not at home when they call. And yes, you'll find interests that take up your time and make you happy. I have always been a reader and I have a huge library of nonfiction books and medical texts that I thoroughly enjoy reading. I also enjoy biking and walking through nature preserves. I'm 72 years old and I can still turn cartwheels on the back lawn with my grandchildren or children in the neighborhood. Life is much more than a cell phone screen. I've been watching a lot of videos about those, like you, who have been ridding of their cellphones. I'm definitely an all or nothing kind of person, though I appreciate your comments regarding how to just minimize your exposure, as well. The only thing I would "miss" is the maps/GPS function, only because I travel for a living and am gone from home for half the month. I see there are many "dumb phones" out there that DO have map and GPS function, so I'll perhaps investigate that further. Thanks for the motivating video. Yours was probably my favorite.

I've actually took your steps, in the first month of May, my phone got cracked, of course I was sad, but I got the opportunity to be more open to my real world, even though I might not have real life friends, I'll gladly say that I'm trying to control myself during the course of the month while waiting for my phone to get fixed, I went to the beach and relax while listening to the radio, get a bit more active and be a bit more social though I have a bit of social anxiety, but it's progressing, as of this time, I got this phone that I use right now got fixed last week and even then, I don't use it that much anymore, yes I might've missed a lot of work and schedules, but I think it's good to get off the social media and go through social detoxification, I really appreciate you making this video, I hope this will be shared with millions of people to show how life was before the smartphone, considering r fact that I'm 19 and I don't even have a phone before I was 12 :)

I love you🙏🏽❤️ I’m starting my journey letting everything go and just focus on Jesus Christ. Anything we can’t detach from is a idol/god to us. I became saved last year, and I feel so good I definitely found peace but I need more peace and I can tell God was telling me it’s something in my life that I idolize and Ik it’s my phone, I’m happy for u and praying for u bro. They don’t understand! Even when I got off my phone for a few hours on the greyhound bus or something everyone just on there phones and I had so much time to think about CHANGE that I want. I noticed social media kept me bitter and so much other feelings, people probably think I’m that person in reality but I’m not. I’m really loving.. but the fruits don’t show if we don’t work on ourselves and let God work on ourselves. I hope everyone let go of there phones for good

In my country, whatsapp is so big. I live abroad, away from my family so whatsapp was not something I could give up. Instead, I bought a senior flip phone with in addition to calling and texting solely had whatsapp. I project it on my computer and it is the best thing I did.
I bought an MP3 Player, bought a TomTom and now... my life is a lot dumber, but I am so much happier.
I would disagree with you Jordan, I think we should dump our smartphones. I have a work tablet I use for some apps we cant go without (like banking and stuff), but its on my desk and not with me.

I'm not giving up my phone, but I can tell you that I lived without a smartphone until I was 19. Years. Old. And I'm 24 now. That's a long heckin' time to go with an old dumbphone. Helped me keep in touch with reality, if you know what I mean. But I'm OK with having a newer phone now, because it helps me keep up with the times. And I'm able to take the time to put my phone down and stuff. The phone definitely helps me, but I'm able to break away from it from time to time.
