If you stand on the short (15" high) overlook by the bridge at Lime Rock Park, you'll need ear plugs if you stay there too many laps when the Corvette is on the track, and blasts out from under the bridge. It redefines the word loud!
I also witnessed this car during the WeatherTech championship at Lime Rock. Boy let me tell you, this thing would vibrate your chest and rattle your ears as it drives by! To bad the new C8.r sounds like a mosquito. But now preformance is key.
I will miss this car so much. Thanks to the team at Pratt & Miller for fielding this car all these years, for some of the best moments in GT motorsports in the past decade and creating this absolute monster of a legend.
There is a huge void at LeMans with the passing of the Corvette C7r and the Aston Martin GteV8 Vantage. Those two front engined beasts added an awesome soundtrack to the race. Sorely missed.
Well, the Porsche 991.2 RSR is still there with its beautiful sound. You can literally hear it coming (and leaving) kilometers away from you. Heck, in 2019 when I was in LeMans, I could still hear it the exhaust note even if there was the C7.R between the porsche and me (while you couldnt hear the C7.R, if there was the 991.2 between you and the corvette :) )
You can actually feel this car coming almost as soon as you can hear it in the distance. The sound waves are that violent. And when it goes by at WOT it feels like someone is patting their hands on your chest. There have actually been times when it made me dizzy due to the resonance inside my ear drums.
It's amazing how brutal that car can sound. Even going back to like a 63 grand sport, they've always been the loudest, if not the most muscly sounding lol. Gotta love it!
This is the car that makes me talk about the good old days! I miss watching it run so much. I am heart broken to never get to hear it with my own ears.
@Devon Toms - Ahhhhh, the classic sound of a Butt Hurt Chevy fan! Let's talk current times where the Ford GT thumped the Vette in the IMSA GTLM Class in 2018 and 2019. I had the pleasure of watching the Ford GT of Chip Ganassi Racing take 1st and 3rd, with a 911 RSR in between, at Lime Rock Park last summer, then they took 1st and 2nd at Road America. Your C7Rs were never really a threat. What's your excuse this time? Oh, let me guess, they're still cheating! Lol, get a life.
@Golden Retriever - You obviously have never heard the historically famous Cobra Daytona Coupe with its tuned headers and fantastic side pipes under hard acceleration! To me, and many others, it produces the most beautiful sound around - and it did it with a small block 289 cu. in. engine, not a big block! I started watching vetts back in 1960 at Sebring 12 hrs, and have been in love with them since. They have such a great sound from those big V8s that they distinguish themselves from everything else on the track nowdays. However back in the 60s, The Ford Cobras also had a really great sound as well as the GT40s. Those days are gone, and I understand that the C8 performance engines will be an overhead cam which will change the sound considerably. But I,m sure that they will sound good in their own merits.
Heard this car a few times in person at Sebring, it’s so much louder than this video can convey. Easily one of the loudest cars in the pack at the time, if not the loudest, and one of the best sounding. It will practically take your breath away. Simply amazing.

Here in Australia we Only have the "V 8 " Races . The best one of the Year being the Mount Panorama at Bathurst in NSW = New South Wales ! Love that Great V8 Sound , not the High Pitched Screaming but Deep Throated Burbling V8 Screaming !

They mainly Race the V8 Holdens and the Ford Falcons and some V8 Nissans plus in the past they had some V8 Mercedes too but they are gone now , and now , no more Holdens(General Motors) in our Country , Factory closed ! No more Ford Falcons either and the Ford Mustangs have replaced them ! Everything now is substituted with either V8 Chryslers or BMW’s especially as as a High Pursuit Cop Car ! You can watch on TH-cam the past V8 Super Car Races from when they first started , Years ago with 4 Cylindered Cars and then finally progressed to only the V8’s ! Times are a changing and I have no idea when V8 Cars will no longer race in Australia nor whether they will cancel the Bathurst 1000 too ! Besides any other V8 Super Car Races Australia Wide , etc ! One can buy Chevy Corvettes in Australia but they are NOT used for Racing here , not in the V8 Class ! Google it ! I ONLY follow mainly the Bathurst Race , sometimes the Gold Coast 600 in Queensland ! I watch some races , Years after they have been run here on TH-cam ,lol ! I enjoy them just as much as immediate viewing on TV if they Broadcast them !

I so love listening to the many comments regarding the sounds of a V8 versus the V6. Many are from the younger fans today, but also from old farts like myself, who date back to the powerful and exciting V8 sounds of the 60s muscle cars. Let's face it though, the sound a car makes is but one measure of its overall appeal, and no measure at all of its capabilities, particularly on a race track. Sound is great, but it doesn't win races. There is no one on this planet that loves the sound of a strong American V8 any more than I do! That said, everything in life is subject to change, and automobiles are no exception. It's very clear that the internal combustion engine is not long for this world. I get a kick out of those who proclaim that they will NEVER own an electric vehicle. My response is, "well, I'll be sure and waive to you walking or bicycling along the roadways as I go by in my high performance, yes, I said high performance, electric car with 460 HP and 600 lb. ft. of torque - the 2021 Mustang Mach E GT. Back to the V8/V6 discussion, the 2019 IMSA GTLM Class saw the Porsche 911 RSR and the Ford GT take first and second place in the championship - ahead of the Corvette C7R, the BMW M8 GTE and the Ferrari 488 GTE. Two 6 cylinder cars kicked ass over the three 8 cylinder cars. I rest my case!

There really is nothing quite like this car. This video gives a good impression, but it will never convey just how much that Corvette will shake your bones as it flies by.
If any Car is Tuned to Perfection it will sound great ! What I often hear is the Missing and “Farting” of poorly tuned Cars , racing up the Highway from our 70 km/h Zone into the 110km/h zone ! One can hear them spluttering terribly when they speed up !
I’m English & give me the choice between a European v8 or an American v8, gimme the ‘Vette all day long. It may or may not be the quickest car in racing but I really don’t care because the noise it makes at full “tilt” is absolutely epic. To me it’s the best sounding car in racing bar none.
Went to Sebring for the 12 hour race in 2015, these Vettes are the loudest things on the track. Only thing close I think was the Z4 race cars from BMW. But these Vettes man... You know when they are coming, and you'd best get out of the way lol

I love the C7R and C8R will be phenomenal but I think there will be no Corvette like the C6R. When it passes by you in the straights feels like a thunderstorm is inbound.

Went to Sebring for the 12 hour race in 2015, these Vettes are the loudest things on the track. Only thing close I think was the Z4 race cars from BMW. But these Vettes man... You know when they are coming, and you'd best get out of the way lol

Haha ! No MUFFLERS on these Buggers ,lol ! Straight out Exhaust ! Great Noise ,lol ! Love it ! Electric Cars need to have a Sound System up their backsides to play that kind of noise ,lol !

C7R and 911 RSR best racecar sound of the century, better than F1 V10.
I love the C7R and C8R will be phenomenal but I think there will be no Corvette like the C6R. When it passes by you in the straights feels like a thunderstorm is inbound.

This is IRL Lightning McQueen. Paint the C7 R red with lightning on the side and you have the look of McQueen and you sure as hell have the sound.
