I always know Andy when I here him. Everyone has to find their own voice. I'm 67 and just now starting to discover my own voice. Great interview of one of my favorite players..... T😎
I got to jam with Andy in NY in 1991 (I think). He was a super nice guy and one of those people that you feel like you have known forever when you have just met him. So great to see him doing so well. 😁
Mike Sterns is one of the most underrated genius guitarists on the planet. Really glad to see the respect shown by Andy here... and his impression was hilarious. Good to hear the Shawn Lane reference (RIP) as well.
Great players are nothing but BEAUTIFUL PURE SOULS!!! Mike stern, andy timmons, guthrie, michael brecker, bob berg, oscar peterson and sooo many more!!!
Love EJ and his playing. He is correct about a lot of stuff that sounds crazy. One thing about the Chandler Tube Driver is: like many tube driven pedals, it runs at less than 1/10th the V that preamp tubes are designed for. That really limits the dynamic sensitivity so that it clips more abruptly and mushes out. The low pass filtering is such that it masks the wild grainy harmonics that would otherwise sound awful. The same sort of thing happens in a Fuzz face pedal because the input Z is so low. A Candian company called Tubesteader makes affordable high V tube driven pedals that are much more dynamically responsive. The new LIGHTKEEPER v2 is the most like a Tube Driver, but much more versatile, and for less money. The output is also high enough that it can be used as a dedicated preamp into a power amp or guitar amp FX return.
It's so cool hearing his inspirations and people he looks up to and it's really cool to know what his process is on tone. Andy's definitely my favorite guitarist ever and I love his personally so much! Thanks so much for all the music you make!
Andy is the master of everything. What he plays, what he doesn’t play. The speed, how long he holds the note, how long he waits until the next and his control. It all adds to the emotion of the music. The final thing is his tone... the wonderful tone... such a great player and so humble. When he said he is overly sensitive, I thought that’s a big piece of the puzzle there. He expresses this so well in his playing. Especially on the album ‘theme’ it is just so good 🙌👌
There are lots of instrumental guitarists; but not many I will listen to. Andy is a player I can listen to the entire CD all the way through. He’s head and shoulders above the rest. Technically. Stylistically Melodically. Etc. IMHO.
Thanks for posting this. Andy's generosity, humility and humor are always refreshing. These some of the characteristics of the great ones ... and oh yea freakin killer chops :D
What Andy's trying to say basically is that once you realize that music is so much more important than you, you start to function as a servant in the literal sense of the word. You serve a huge purpose and that is when you become a real musician.
If you are feeling the tube pedals elevated on wooden stands is a bit extreme, take a look into the world of High end Audio. You've got guys spending serious money on stands to elevate speaker cables off the floor. One Audiophile noticed a drop in sound quality after he had a rug removed for cleaning. He realised it had been replaced differently to how it was before removal and the sound had been affected due to the carpet pile running in a different direction.
I play african-style lead which is mostly about clean articulation that Andy mentioned. You've won a new fan. I need to find out more about your tones..thank you.
Great interview, I learned a few things from this. Somehow Andy has always flown under my radar, although I've been aware of him for years. Where's the best place to start with his music?
i would start with these vids: th-cam.com/video/tyoJe35YTLQ/w-d-xo.html , th-cam.com/video/KaVVZYOvMFY/w-d-xo.html , and listen to this gig and how tasty he is compared to the other payers th-cam.com/video/W3OaDDJ7IKE/w-d-xo.html . Hope this helps
AUGUST 6TH???? COSMO MUSIC? HE WAS HERE AND I FUCKING MISSED IT??? FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!! It's all in the hands. The JHS Pedal video of 'Night To Remember' demonstrates that in spades.
The question was put to DLR about how Van Halen got so good. His answer was that they put in the work. Basically, top-tier surgeons have over 10,000 hours of experience, and that’s what they had to do in order to make it and become the Mighty VH.
There are a limited number of artists who convincingly deliver their soul through their instrument. Technical proficiency by itself isn’t enough. I can’t play his stuff as background music. Whatever I’m doing comes to a stop.
Always that same green jacket? I mean the mart in miller videos, Ibanez clinics, jam with Eric gales and this video and so many others. Every video I have watched of Andy he is in that green jacket. Clearly the lead guitar gig doesn't pay real well
he did a clinic in my city and was wearing the same jacket, i kid you not. not too surprising though. i myself have been wearing the same red jacket i have for more than 10 years now.
What's wrong with ego? For true greatness in music...you gotta feel good about yourself. No time for an inferiority complex in music. You just won't pull it off. Of course he has a huge ego...look at him sitting there holding his guitar...and that's okay.
Check out Andy Timmons guitar clinic highlights at Cosmo - th-cam.com/video/Ntbf-zBC6Tw/w-d-xo.html
I could listen Andy talk shop for hours. He is so humble and insightful. Very inspiring musician.

BluesLicks101 underatted??!!!
Mike Stern is fantastic...
Mike Stern is 🔥
Would love to hear him talk Shawn in depth!! Their namm jam is so epic:))
I hate Mike's "sound", and I'm sure it prevents him communicating with a wider audience.
Most underrated virtuoso of our time- I get more from their mindset and philosophy than even their licks
Mike Stern Impression is on point!!!
Great players are nothing but BEAUTIFUL PURE SOULS!!! Mike stern, andy timmons, guthrie, michael brecker, bob berg, oscar peterson and sooo many more!!!
Yes man, they get their daily greek oil to perform so great! no sponsoring by the way, have fun in London peesa, watching the vid

Andy's humbleness is incredible!! I adore guitar work of this great guy!
Fantastic interview, thank you.
Was at this show ! Was a great day
awesome!
A truly magical player! :)
Great Stern impression. Just gotta remember to use the word "bunch" a lot. Mikes always saying that. Good one, Andy.
I like hearing Andy talk about his learning guitar journey... I learn so much from this humble, awesome, talented man!! God bless you Andy!!
Andy, you are successful! I have seen you at the Iridium many times. Each show has been memorable. I hope to see you many more times!
Awesome interview! Got to meet Andy years ago!
Awesome info from the master. Best guitarist of all time
Damn I love Andy! He is so humble and loves to share.
That was awesome!!!
Great interview! Love to get into those type of questions, yet leaving the search for all of us to do ourselves! Thanks for having Andy on!
Thx this was a great interview
Love his clean tone.... 👍🏼
Andy Timmos :"to the greater good!"
Everyone : " to the greater good!"

Rearranging the rug changed the acoustics in the room. The physics of the cables did not.
Great interview, an unique artist and a wonderful person! 🔝
Great interview. Andy has some great insights into the elements of the process of creating music.
Great interview. Never heard of Timmons. Now I have to check him out
Great stuff!
GOD Bless You 🎸🎸🎸

Just want to meet Andy some day and shake his hand. Guess we all do
Amazing interview
All i wanna know is what set of pickup in his atz100 and the wiring of it.
WOw! AWESOME ANDY !!!!
Great interview, I learned a few things from this. Somehow Andy has always flown under my radar, although I've been aware of him for years. Where's the best place to start with his music?
I would suggest his last 2 Andy Timmons Band releases. Theme From A Perfect World is probably my favorite, but Resolution is a very close second.
Theme from a Perfect World, Sgt Pepper, and Resolution.

Ear X-Tacy album.
Danger Danger - Screw it! obviously :D :D
I don’t know who Andy Timmons is. But he does one helluva Mike Stern impression!
Look up That Was Then, This Is Now
Texture in tone....essential I believe
Here’s the cable...
Good word!
auralect vs intellect - awesome
"Concerned about everything around me"
Yeah. I just found out we have something in common.
Awesome interview man! Good questions!
great interviewer , more listening

I love Ibanez guitars that look like Strats
Talk to Erics Drummer hes an encyclopedia of knowledge on the subject of drums ,Eric and Austin
It’s like how David Lee Roth describes on the Joe Rogan podcast (yeah, I know) of being a 10000 hour man.
Could you go into more detail on that? (It's a long podcast to try and pick apart)

@@ScottWRiley heck yeah, they played top 40 gigs and backyard parties since 74 I believe, legends
😂😂😂 great Mike Stern!!!

Eric just write the goddam book!!
Mfer has more self importance than Rodger waters... What is your most memorable song? Song? Song? Song?
First time I hear Andy talk....he just beat John Myng. His voice reminds me of Rick Wakeman a little bit.

Why do u even care lol.
I just prefer his playing during his Danger Danger days, it had a George Lynch vibe in them
:)
guitarist gona noodle

Give Andy more time to talk, mannnn!!! 🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿
Just learn piano before starting guitar and practise 12 hours a day while having a good teacher- ah and have enough money to buy expensive gear..
GrericPoperic7 or just make excuses, like you
