    Autopsy report basically states that the initial impact twisted his body to the right, turning his head to the right. Then the wall impact sent him forward, the 1 part of the lap belt sheared which allowed him to fling forward a bit farther, the back right of his head hit the right side of the steering wheel and thats what did him in. The wall impact dropped his total speed by around 44mph, or 70kph.
    Failed belt and a very unfortunate series of events
    But like others have said, this mans last moments were watching his team/son winning this race. He built himself a damn good legacy and made many people so excited.
    We all go eventually and instead of just passing out alone in an apartment, he died going 170mph watching his family win a race.
    What a man.

    • @sams.358
      @sams.358 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was the basilar skull fracture that killed him. He wasn’t wearing the HANS device and the impact through him forward with a sudden stop causing the basilar skull fracture, killing him instantly

    • @sacr3
      @sacr3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sams.358 Yes and no, it was combined with the twisting of the vehicle, the failed lapbelt and the hans device that contributed to his death.
      If the lap belt didn't fail, his head wouldn't have twisted and struck the edge of the wheel as it did.
      It was a 44mph deceleration, people in cars have accidents at these speeds all the time and very rarely suffer a basal skull fracture. Hence why it was the set of circumstances combined with a failed belt, that allowed his body to contort the way it did and strike the wheel the way it did.
      A hans device may have helped, no kidding, but it would be interesting to see how an individual comes out of an accident when their head is held back as their torso lunges forward.

      sacr3: Not many people know that Rusty Wallace is the one who put Dale into the death angle with the wall. It’s definitely nobody’s fault but just saying why Dale went into the wall like he did. Watch in slow mo...u see Dale was headed for a hit on wall with right side of his car. After Sterling nudge he might tried to save it for a second which sent him back on track going towards wall in an angle but the Wallace nudge is the one who sent him into the death angle. If only Kenny was like 000.2 seconds ahead of original spot he would saved Dale from going into the wall like he did but instead his position made it worse.

My dad was actually friends with a few people from NASCAR and we were at a friend's business and there was a 4X4 Black Silverado parked and I think he was actually waiting for someone. And I was actually a huge fan of his. So the guy who owned the business told me to go knock on the window of the truck and tell him I liked the truck. So I did. Dale's passing doing what he loved, as a result, he has saved soo many lives. In the way he passed, safety changes were made, and the wrecks we have seen today that are much more violent, the drivers survived in part by the neck brace.
    Intimidator forever!

    I’ve lived in Concord for a few years. I’ll admit that all I knew of the Charlotte Motor Speedway was the mad crazy traffic that it brought whenever races were held there. Now I see why. Now I see why Dale Earnhardt is so revered, not only in Cabarrus County NC , but in the entire country. LEGENDARY. ICONIC. PHENOMENAL. God bless him and his family. I look forward to learning more about NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt’s legacy. Got this Brooklyn girl all choked up. Awesome!

    I remember watching that race with my father and brother in law in Macon Georgia I was a Rusty Wallace in the day and when the wreck happened I remember saying Rusty made it through the wreck and at the time I was glad for that so we left and went home a couple hours later my father in law called and told me Dale had died blew my mind it looked like a normal wreck no airborne crashing I blew it off after that day racing changed to me and to this day I rarely watch Rusty and Dale and the older race drivers are no longer out there to the new generation have fun each year watching that great event it can't be matched
