It's amazing how well this song fits with Oswald the Rabbit since what many people likely don't know is that Oswald was meant to be the mascot superstar of Walt Disney Enterprises. Sadly, Walt didn't have 100% rights to his own creation which meant Oswald couldn't become the face of Disney, and alas Walt had to create a new character: Mickey Mouse. Afterwards Oswald slowly drifted away and was forgotten while Mickey got everything Walt likely intended Oswald the Rabbit to have, though what's most sad is that Walt sadly didn't live to see how Disney was able to bring Oswald back to them but he most certainly would've been proud to see him back.
God I love the way Oswald glitches thru his different redesigns, especially with the line 'is this how it works, am i doing it right,' the fact that he was forced to change so much, forced to be 'cuter' and 'more marketable', yet noone wanted him. My head cannon is after realizing he’d lost the rights to Oswald, Walt reluctantly told him to stay with Universal. Oswald waits for Walt to return until Universal replace Oswald with the redesigns we see (the drastic redesigns, the ones that just look like Oswald with slight addition are just makeup and outfits) and finally after Pete leaves Oswald for Disney, Ortensia becomes forgotten, and Oswald is kicked to the curb losing everything including his own name, Oswald finally sees the Toon that replaced him just before he too starts to slowly fade into obscurity.

According to the contract he sign, Walt had to give up the rights to Oswald and his cartoons to Mintz and not use him outside or he'll be in trouble. Both Scrappy and Oswald are treated as crap in cartoon animation. Scappy being the most hated cartoon character in history and Oswald being the most forgotten cartoon character in history.

Edit: forgot to mention, but the reason that the characters are still alive after being erased is ink can't be erased, meaning he can't kill them with an eraser.
Both Scrappy and Oswald are treated as crap in cartoon animation. Scappy being the most hated cartoon character in history and Oswald being the most forgotten cartoon character in history.
