  • Emily Graslie, vlogger and Chief Curiosity Correspondent for the Field Museum explains the importance of curiosity for the preservation of natural history, and the value it brings to our everyday lives.
Emily Graslie graduated from The University of Montana in 2011 with a BFA in Painting. During an internship with UMT Zoological Museum in her senior year, she developed a relationship with science that turned into a love of skeletal preparation and the inner workings of natural history museums.
In January of 2013, Emily, with the help of educator Hank Green and producer Michael Aranda, launched, “The Brain Scoop”, a TH-cam channel about the inner workings of natural history museums, all aspects of science, biology and the joys of discovery. As The Field Museum’s first-ever Chief Curiosity Correspondent, she uses a variety of new media to share stories with learners all over the world.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

She always has the dopest style. She's so cool; when she turns 35, I will vote for her for president. But because she is smart.

But what if she doesn't turn 35 on an election year?

One of the coolest things I learned in French class is that France has free museum admission for students and super cheap family discounts to keep the next generation curious and excited about learning new things, we should all follow their example in that respect.

Dang, how time flies. I've been watching Emily's channel since she worked for Hank Green.
"Don't be embarrassed if you don't know what [The Field] is ..." well, it's only the second-best natural history museum in the world, innit? One would hope anybody watching this would know of it. Okay, let's call it a tie with the AMNH, I just have a soft spot for New York's one.

Museum Für Naturkunde in Berlin hits the top spot for me. If you're interested in natural sciences, seeing the ceiling-reaching skeleton of Giraffatitan and the history-changing remains of Archaeopteryx...it just moves you

I have never been down the Wikipedia rabbit hole. but I waste so much of my time going down the TH-cam rabbit hole. Only way I justify it by saying that "hey I'm at this watching educational content."

I saw an internet survey question that I couldn’t resist responding to - What is your favorite amusement park? My honest and immediate answer - the American Museum of Natural History. A museum is a place to muse. An amusement park is a place to be amused. You do the math.
