    The cut or thai thing is mắm Thái. Fermented fish Thailand style. In vegetarian dishes, they shred green papaya that you see and maybe pineapple, cucumber red chillies for spices.

      I don't like the taste of meat or fish, that's why I always have my reservations about traveling to Asia because even if you don't use meat, I have heard that you do use pork or fish sauces. Are there purely vegan or vegetarian places in Vietnam that don't taste like meat or fish?

    • @skatingcanuck9837
      @skatingcanuck9837 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@maggie6100 Your question is a bit confusing. It's not clear if you are a vegetarian or vegan. Presuming you are on a plant based diet you might have trouble. There is vegan fish sauce these days but not all restaurants that offer vegetarian options use them. Btw a lot of people who don't like fish are afraid of fishy flavours, yet if they ate a dish with a little fish sauce would never have known unless told. TBH unless you are willing to be more flexible you will struggle. You will have to limit yourself to the major cities in East Asia and South East Asia. It seems most vegans have had to compromise with vegetarian options at times.

      Buddhism, as a national religion in Vietnam, has a strong influence to our beliefs, culture and cuisine. In the past, we used to marinate soy sauce for vegan/ vegetarian dishes. Nowadays people are even more creative to create new ways to mimic the fish sauce. Each talented chef has his or her own secret sauce formula. They can even be much tastier than the original version. You will be suprised to try the vegan “roast pork” with layers of crispy skin, fat strip and meat 🤭

    A lot of Viet imitation meat uses skin tofu. They would wrap the skin round and round to create multiple layers, and that helps to give the tight texture. Any imitation food with 'fat' probably has some white jello like agar agar.
    Goi Thai, they may be trying to tell you Thailand-style salad. Many people say Thai for short.

      @yennhiphan1584 "Chay" means "Vegetarian" that you can consume egg, milk and honey in the recipes. "Thuần chay" means "Vegan" that you can't consume egg, dairy products and honey.
      Bạn nói tu hành đạo phật thì phải ăn thuần chay thì mình thấy ko đúng lắm. Mình có nhiều bạn bè theo Phật nhưng vẫn là Vegetarian và tụi nó chỉ kiêng hoàn toàn vào rằm và mùng 1 thôi. Hơn nữa ko phải đạo Phật nào cũng ăn thuần chay đâu ạ. Bên Nam Tông ăn mặn, Bắc Tông mới ăn chay.

    • @honeychan87
      @honeychan87 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Ăn chay có rất nhiều kiểu. Bên Tây họ phân biệt 4, 5 loại chay cho nhiều tôn giáo/ sở thích. Người Việt chỉ dùng một từ “chay” nên dễ gây nhầm lẫn. Một số người VN cho rằng chay là kiêng hết gia vị nồng, trứng, sữa, v.v… Đây là suy nghĩ cổ hủ/ cực đoan của thế kỉ trước rồi. Bây giờ hội nhập, tư tưởng và sở thích, khẩu vị cá nhân nên được tôn trọng. Người ta ăn chay vì ngán thịt, vì sức khoẻ chứ ko phải ăn để tu thành Phật. Dù bạn có ăn chay trường kiêng hết đủ thứ nhưng cái tâm nhỏ mọn độc đoán thì còn xấu hơn nữa.

I realised the non asian, do not know about these vegan dishes. Their food is so boring and not very innovative at all. Just a bunch of vegetables thrown together in a salad. For anyone living abroad, especially in Australia, if you see a temple, you can come in on Saturday, they usually sell or give free vegan food. If you have money, you can buy to support the temple while having great food.

Even though the French brought over dairy products, we still prefer nature’s cream like coconut milk.
