I can' thank you enough for posting this video. I had the same problem happen today. The dealer wanted to pull the transmission and replace the case to repair the problem. I had never heard of the piggy back plug with oversize threads before watching your video. I followed your procedure and it worked great. You are a lifesaver. Thanks again!
Was wondering if you had a part number for the piggyback plug. Oreillys plug looks brass but it says it’s steel. Sae and it’s by doorman. Thanks great video.
Thank you so much for the video. My crankcase threads came out and your video made this a quick garage fix saving my trip next week. Who every you are.. I owe you a beer!
thank you for this video you help me more than u know I followed your instructions to the t it was a little hard to get the piggyback plug to start but I got it not leaks thank you
Thanks for the video. I did everything right up until the part of threading the oversized plug in. I got the Dorman single oversized and it’s way bigger than the factory plug. No way am I cranking that into the case, it’ll crack it.
Still works, no problems at all. I just put 3 or 4 small, but fairly strong, magnets on the outside of the plug and it was more powerful than the stock magnet/plug.
Thank you for this video ! This happened to me yesterday on my softail, didn’t get the piggyback though, I bought this rethread kit , I’m gonna work on it tomorrow. My question is , is it easy to tap it with the shocks kinda on your way ? Thanks again
Sorry man, you probably already got it fixed by now lol. I honestly can't remember for sure, it's been a while. I think it was all a little difficult with it being so tight between the shocks, but it wasn't impossible.
+MD H tell them you need a 1/2" x 20 single over size piggyback plug. they ordered it and had it there by that same afternoon. the washer that comes with it on the small plug is worthless and will not seal. get a small banjo bolt washer that's metal on the outside and rubber around the middle. I got the washer at a harley shop, but o'reillys might have them, I'm not sure.
Mike Cunningham the stock plug on most bikes has a little magnet built in to it to collect any small metal shavings. It keeps them stuck to the plug at the bottom of the pan/engine so they dont circulate through the engine. The plug I added doesnt have a magnet built in to it so I added those small, farily powerful, magnets to make the plug magnetic.
Mike Cunningham hah, no problem man. 6 gear trans if thats what your asking, 1 down 5 up. and yea, the housing is aluminum thats why they strip out easy I guess. I think whoever had the bike before me had stripped it a little already. It came out fine, but it never would thread back in. I laid on the ground for about an hour trying to get it to grab and thread back in by hand, but it never would.
i know i just went through the same thing but i just drilled and tapped a size up and put in a new bolt but i like your set up cause instead of every time i want to change my gear oil im not removing the nut in and out of the aluminum housing
If you strip out transmission plug on Gm vehicle all hope is not lost....breaker bar and Irwin bolt grip will get it done....should work for other vehicles too!!

This happened to me on my 2014 HearitageSoftail I will be using this for the fix thank you for the video
No problem man, glad it could help you out.👍
Thanks for the vid. I've got same exact prob with mine yesterday. Looks like I'll be doing same exact fix.
Hope it helps man!👊😎

Looks pretty good! It's a stupid place for a drain plug.
How has it held up over the years? And how did you add a magnet?
Still works, no problems at all. I just put 3 or 4 small, but fairly strong, magnets on the outside of the plug and it was more powerful than the stock magnet/plug.
Nice! Where did you grab the magnets from?
pretty sure I found them in the hobby section at walmart.
Great job it would be nice if you could lift the bike 12+ inches. I learned to not do softail slim maintenance. Cost more in the long run.
Yea that definitely would have made things easier, there's not much room under there.

Nice ride
Thanks man
78 Like excellent detail video, I have same problem last week, now I know how to fix it. Thanks for doing this..
Glad it helped you out man, thanks!
nice instructions. dealer will always try to get you to put a new pan on. they want 1400 for the job.
yea sounds about right, hell with that. lol
would this work for the primary case as well?
yea it should work just the same, but will be A LOT easier to get to.
+thaHooligan .I was racking my brain in a fix for the plug thanks for your video. just got the bike and changed the oils and boom stripped plug
@@DanielWillis1982 Same here😂😂😂😂
where did you get the over sized plug from?
O'Reillys
What size is the over sized plug? And what did you ask for exactly?

Thanks for the info.
What are the magnets

isn't it an aluminum housing
shit!!! my bad "the gears"..... ok i got it
