    I've got a survivor 350 2WD from 1987. I bought it 18 months ago from the original owner. All I would need to do to make it look new is refreshing the plastic and repainting the cargo racks. It's good to see these being brought back.

    Good job. Glad you were able to get it running. I'm doing a video series on a complete restoration project on my 1985 Yamaha 200 Moto 4 which I am posting to my channel as I go. I do have a hint for you. My ATV has a special bolt on the left side at the top of the cylinder head that the manual indicates can be loosened to check if the oil flow is getting to the top end of the head properly. If you loosen the bolt, crank the machine, and run it a minute or so, some oil should ooze out the bolt hole.
    You DO NOT remove the bolt, just loosen it. Then if the oil flow is good, just tighten it back to factory specs. Those bolts can loosen again over time. Some of the smoke coming from your machine looks like it may be coming from the oil check bolt. You may want to check to be sure it is tightened properly, if your engine has that feature and I am betting it does. Most early Yamaha engines do.
    I would not rely upon that old lead acid battery for power either. Swap it for a modern AGM sealed battery of the correct capacity. Not fun to have a battery fail when you are miles out on a trail.

    I had a very simple project with a Moto 4 200. I bought it off a friend for $150. Plastics were faded but not cracked. I took it home and originally was going to part it out for my tri moto 225 because there basically the same thing. But I was able to fire it over and immediately fell in love with it and gave it a little tlc and some plastic restorer on the fenders and now it looks brand new. It looked like a piece of garbage when I got it and he was actually going to scrap it. But I couldn't let that happen. I now take it trail riding and it's not fast but it's geared nice and low to get over rocks and stuff. I love it now 🤘

      @@averybryant yeah they are geared nice and low too. Your not going to win races with them but you can climb over stuff and have torque to spare going uphill

    Cool video. This was my set of wheels as a teenager in Northern Michigan (the part by Lake Superior not the part connected to Detroit). The engine sound brings back memories. What a great reliable sound that was. It always started in below freezing temperatures. If I remember correctly it would go about 55 miles an hour. Just a little bit faster than all the other Honda 250s ! The engine didn't sound too healthy at that speed though. Anyways cool video. I am watching from Thailand . 👍

    Very good! Mine constantly backfires and I can't figure out why. About the only thing I haven't checked are the jets in the carburetor.

    I bought a 1990 Yamaha 350 big bear 4x4 from an older man.
    Was stored in a barn as he was too old to ride anymore.
    It had 475 hours on it.
    I put the cheap carb on it like you and it worked fine.
    Can’t find a replacement seat anywhere

      @@averybryant I was pretty surprised at what I could pull. I’m 240lbs I had 2 deer strapped on and my 300+lbs cousin and I put it in low gear and it pulled us up about a 45 degree holler with no problem. Looking forward to more videos of your wheeler.

    dude i bought one fore 300 dollars and he said that it wouldnt turn on and the eletrical stuff wouldnt work on it and it had been setting for 6 months
    got it home 20 minutes later found a blown fuse replaced the battery and put gas in it and didnt clean the carb at all and it started and ran amazingly tbh though he did say he only ran non ethanol so thats probably why the carb didnt need to be cleaned

    Hi, my dad has just brought a yamaha model 350, 1980 or 1990 quad bike, hes having problems with it,but mainly the carbaretta, it keeps dying and hes thinking he might have too take the carbi out, we are trying too find a workshop manual for it but we are having a tough time finding one. The quad has square headlights but theyre on the far corners of the front, so spaced right out. Its also chain driven too. We have been too the local yamaha store,bur they arent sure what age it is because it is chain driven. If you have anything that could help,I would really appreciate it,my dad is a very healthy active 85 and the more information i get, the easier it will be too work on. It was sitting in a shed for 3 years,not running, but the people we brought it from had got it towed running before we got there apparently. My dad has been able too get it going but it concks out, he has seen some white residue around the carbi area,so he wants too take the carbi out and clean it all out,but its a big job and without the year and manual,its making it harder. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    Did you have to adjust the lever or cable for the the reverse lever? I'm having trouble getting mine into reverse and I think I just need to do an adjustment.

      I didnt have to adjust this one but yes there is an adjustment for that shift cable. I think theres one on the bottom of the shift mechanism as well as where the cable is mounted on the engine

      @ Dan McBrearty -Try pressing the right foot break down hard. Then pull the reverse lever.

      @@MT-th4ns Thanks for the suggestion, I tried that as well and still no luck. I ordered a Chiltons manual for it to see if there is an adjustment I can do or if there is some sort of safety that might stop it from going into reverse. It kind of feels like there is something stopping it. I noticed a wire coming from the parking brake lever, I'm thinking that might have something to do with it. Hopefully the manual will have some info I can use to troubleshoot.

      So just to post an update, I'm pretty sure it has to do with the #2 control cable that is attached to the rear brake pedal. Easy fix, just have to find the time to do it. Might just need to be adjusted or maybe a new cable. Either way shouldn't be too bad.

      Oh yea i did forget about that but yes MT is correct. There is supposed to be a cable that runs from footbrake pedal to the shifter mechanism. I “deleted” the one on this atv. Just unscrew and remove it from the bottom of the shifter mechanism. It requires you to push footbrake when shifting to reverse but obviously causes some sort of problems down the road

    I'm guessing that "oil cooled" sticker on the side has more to do with the smoke than the assembly lube. Should have burnt off pretty quickly.

      Lol yea that ended up being an oil leak, but i have had some smoke for 5-10 minutes until you run them hot enough to burn it out, probably some left over in the exhaust as well where they were smoking so bad before

    Those chinese carbs come lean, that may be the cause of your sputter in the high rpms. Be careful you don't destroy your hard work with a bad carb adjustment.

    Hooking an ATV to a running vehicle is a great way to ruin your regulator rectifier and/or stater it’s way too much amperage
