Great video, I have so much nostalgia for outrun , we had an outrun machine in our student union at the university of Glamorgan , when they tore down the old building to make way for a new shiny one , they neglected to bring back the machine, I wonder what happend to it ! We have been on the lookout for good arcades recently and the nearest thing we can find to the outrun machine is the midnight club ones in terms of arcadness
Ah man that's a real shame! I believe there's some kind of Sega office in Cardiff somewhere, perhaps it ended up there. I had totally forgotten about Midnight Club, those games are incredible too!
Ah that's a real shame! Arcades in general aren't what they used to be and that really sucks. There's some half decent bar-cades in Cardiff at the very least.
Outrun2006tweaks and the texture packs for it (both released earlier this year 2024) take the pc version up to the next level, amazing work from modders, still the best arcade racer.
OutRun2 FTX: Feel the Road 4K Modded Update to ORC2C Also, replace the .ogg music tracks that you don’t like with Casiopea’s live-album masterpiece, ‘Mint Jams’ (skip track 6…tempo and vibe too slow for OR2). Japanese Fusion Jazz’s influence is all over video game music. The combined synergy of OR2 and ‘Mint Jams’ is pure bliss. You can thank us later 🚘💨🚗
This game is a masterpiece, I'm not a fan of the "clones" on Steam, I found Horizon Chase Turbo to be offensively awful for example. This game is one of the finest sequels ever made with a beautifully cheesy soundtrack. It's one of the many franchises that SEGA has abandoned, they have so many to offer but are swallowing the cash generated by Football Manager, Total War et al (can't blame them tbh).
Sega is absolutely the King of arcade-y games and you're right, OutRun is amongst their best! They seem to know it too, they're always showing off a selection of their classics in the form of mini games in the Like a Dragon series. It would be amazing if they'd embrace their roots a little more though and released a proper OutRun 3 or something one day!
They definitely do, I remember Totalbiscuit's video covering Afterburner Climax and he just swamped it with praise. Afterburner was the first game I ever played as a kid (I was around 4,0 Afterburner Climax blew me away. I'd love to see proper Space Harrier, SEGA Rally,Daytona, Golden Axe, Fantasy Zone, Shinobi etc remakes. The Alex Kidd remake was decent but it's sad to see their classics languishing in obscurity. Virtua Fighter is also my favourite game series, period - I'll admit to being a SEGA (of old) fanatic lmao RGG's excellent series is at least keeping SEGA's past somewhat relevant@@TheUtterChrisp
I also have to say, I loved Ferrari F355 Challenge (also helmed by Yu Suzuki), gameplay-wise it was on the opposite end of the spectrum to Outrun but it was a remarkable achievement, especially when played in an Arcade with a 3 screen set-up@@TheUtterChrisp
Thank you very much for the kind words :). It's all in good fun, promise! BMW drivers have a little bit of a reputation in the UK (sometimes fairly earned, sometimes not) so thought I'd make a bit of a play on that.
@@gearfriedtheswmas You're absolutely spot on and I recall saying something very similar in my original blog post. It's awesome timing that you're playing it now though, I hope to one day build a 'book club' of sorts around my channel with the games I'm covering!
10:44 the cars sound like shit tbh. Maybe Blackbox spoiled me in the mid 2000s but when I first started playing Outrun again I thought my speakers weren't plugged in properly
Hoping that Sega does an outrun master collection, in the same way they did a sonic collection. I remember playing Outrun Coast to Coast on the 360, really loved that game. Unfortunately I don't see it on XBL, or Steam, or Switch.
Another fantastic video!
Thank you very much dude!

Those ghosts you're tormenting were those drivers you just killed.
The girlfriend doesn't like to leave any loose ends behind.
Used to own the leaderboards in the local arcade back in the day.
Sounds like it gave you some cracking memories!
Ahh I remember playing the original Outrun in the Hi Tide arcade in Porthcawl . Those halycon days.
This wasnt bad mind on the OG Xbox.
I've never had the chance to play the original OutRun on an arcade machine before, I wonder if there's still one down Porthcawl somewhere!
@@TheUtterChrisp nah there all gone. Those eighties arcades in Porthcawl was something else back in those days.

I haven't actually touched the PC version of OutRun since making this video, sounds like an excuse to dive back in!

I wasn't aware of that mod, sounds awesome! I do love me some Japanese Fusion Jazz.
Thanks for the heads up!

I feel seen.

@@Grandmastergav86 I've not tried that one out, I'll have to give it a go! Thanks for the recommendation :)
How do I play outrun on console? Or PC?
Sadly there isn't really anywhere to buy it properly on PC, but you may find a PS2 or original Xbox copy somewhere in circulation where you live!
Psp has it, both 2006 and the OG in a game compilation UMD
Great video (not sure why you sneer at idea of Outrun with BMWs? That'd also be cool😂)

Chicken Chaser 😁
You're onto something there I reckon!
@@TheUtterChrisp I'm actually replaying Fable currently, great game with unreached potential. With a few tweaks could have been a masterpiece.

That's an amazing idea!
They could also stick in some other classic racing games whilst they're at it, such as Daytona USA or Virtua Racing.
don't forget epic games store
Very true, the more platforms the better!
Honestly Good Old Games should be a no-brainer for Sega.
SCUD Racer and Daytona 2! Also a fighting collection - we need a Fighters Megamix reissue from SEGA!@@TheUtterChrisp
