- A short clip from the Big Finish audio Dalek Empire: Death to the Daleks!
If you're familiar with the original audio, you'll know I've chopped it around a bit, either to make it easier to animate or to better serve the visual narrative I wanted to tell.
This is all made in Blender, mostly rendered in Eevee. It took the best part of a year, so no, I won't be doing a full audio!

Shows that Daleks can exist quite happily with modern SF design aesthetics and visual storytelling... Dalek Empire needs to be remade as live action or, like this, high quality animation

I wonder how those attacking Dalek Patrols would react if the Humanized Rebel Daleks suddenly unexpectedly showed up and came to the rescue by protecting that innocent Earth Ship long enough for them to make their escape? I would really liked to see that happen someday by seeing Good Daleks VS EVIL Daleks.

It's genuinely surreal how good this looks, this wouldn't look out of place from a AAA game on PS4. This is fantastic!

This is really impressive work, it's engaging to look at and has a real cinematic quality to it. I hope Big Finish sees it and gets you to do a trailer or something in the future.

Thank you! Yeah, I learned a lot making this. I can see all the places where it doesn't quite measure up to what I had in mind, but I'm so much better equipped for the next one - once I work up the stamina to start another long-term project!

Dam i love this, it really makes me wish more of bigfinish's audio dramas were animated. I also love how there have been some slight changes and additions made to make it work better in an animated form, really good.
Thanks! Yeah, it wouldn't have worked to just use the audio as it was, just as this wouldn't work without the visuals. It ended up needing a lot more shots and being a much more drawn-out sequence than I thought at the beginning, but I learned a lot from the process.
I've got to be honest out of all the fictitious villains ever created, The Daleks are the best. They always make the best dramatic entrances.
This makes me really want a modern big budget Dalek movie. I think with the right script it could work. Probably be R +18 though.
Yeah, it could be interesting. I don't think there's any need for it to be above a 15, though. Got to keep those Daleks broadly family friendly!
No joke, this entire series would be incredible as an Animation!
The animation for this looks amazing!!! This should be an actual Dalek animated series for TV, it some how gives me vibes of the recent CGI series of Thunderbirds are go.
The only thing I didn't like was that every time the Daleks fired their lasers, we could constantly hear "FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!" Not even an "EXTERMINATE!!!"
But other than that, this is a fantastic Doctor Who animation. The BBC should hired you to animate the visual effects or produce this into an animated spin-off show (which could be possible, with Russell T Davis saying he plans to create an MCU style universe for Doctor Who. Possibly meaning more spin-offs)!
Thanks! On the lack of 'exterminate', I can only really work with the audio as it exists. I thought about editing in an 'exterminate' here and there but when the Daleks are shooting there's music and other sound effects going on underneath, which makes it difficult to add or remove things.

This is brilliant. I love the Dalek getting melted by the jet engine. So many little visual additions that complement the Big Finish audio!

There are definite Star Wars influences there. In fact a lot of the flying sequences are pretty closely based on Star Wars ones.

Honestly outside of the daleks refusal to say exterminate and the low resolutions and graphics honest it’s bloody fantastic like honestly even though it’s a short story it’s really amazing and ironically despite its short run time it was more enjoyable than most of the new who episodes and honestly I personally would love to see a mini series
Well the Daleks don't say 'exterminate' in the original audio clip, and it didn't make any sense to add it in. As for the resolution... I rendered it out at 4K. I don't know if my computer could cope with much more than that!

@@hadesdogs4366 Check out Big Finish's Dalek Empire series then! You can get them for virtually nothing these days. Unfortunately it took me 8 months to do 3 minutes, so I won't be animating the rest!

I actually think the Daleks work better outside of DW. No jeopardy with the Doctor involved. Gives us chance to build relationships with characters.

The Daleks don't believe in neutral planets, I believe. Very nice work. Also, good example of the Kzinti Lesson on that Dalek.
Yeah, I always thought the neutral thing was a bit odd in the original audio. Thanks! I wish I could have made the melting Dalek a bit more convincing. I think Blender's newer tools would help but they weren't really there when I did that bit!
It would make sense in the event of a stalemate, as neither Daleks nor humans have infinite resources it would be better to have a small force on standby and place greater resources elsewhere.
it would be cool if (with the recent Disney+ involvement) we get a ton of new live-action Doctor Who content (like with Star Wars)

I've just said on another video how I look forward to seeing you animating a full BF one day. I didn't realise you were so damned close. I thought you wouldn't be able to animate people yet (Daleks are relatively 'easy' I'm guessing) but you have. The business around the main action is superb. So detailed. You could've left a lot of that out and it still would've sung. Seeing your name on a big or TV screen in the not very distant future will see me punching the air. You deserve all the good stuff coming your way. 👏👏
Thank you, that's very kind! Yeah, Daleks are easy but I wanted to push myself with the people. I was only beginning to learn how to animate them in this - it was mostly cutting together off-the-shelf motion capture animations you can get online, but so far the next video is all custom stuff.
@@JanjyGiggins You'll only get better. Have you been in touch with Big Finish? I was wondering if it was a case of everybody thinking somebody else had drawn their attention to it. I think they'd be bowled over by your work. I can easily see this sort of thing as a next step for them/you within the next 5 years or so. The tech is improving exponentially. It's a really exciting time. Keep them coming. 👏👏

Wow, I had NO IDEA that Nicole Watterson's Voice Actor was in Big Finish!
I don't know who that is, but Big Finish have probably employed a good proportion of the voice actors working in the UK by this point.
