So, why were they so different? Maybe because of the size difference between a FILM SET and a TV STUDIO? The TV Daleks had to be smaller to fit in the BBC Studio?

This film was my first exposure to Dr. Who. I saw it in the early 70's when one of our local stations used run it a lot on Saturday afternoons. Of course that was years before series came to the States.
Way more entertaining (i.e. less fucking stupid) than the first Cushing film. The hilarious fan trailer aside, it's a shame The Chase never got Techniscoped. Then we'd have a classic trilogy.
I believe that they were working on it, "daleks vs mechanoids" I think was the production title, got abandoned in '73 when they ran way over budget and a fair way into the film, you can find the odd scene here and there, just got to know where to look. You might want to check me on that though!

They did intend for the Daleks to have claws in the tv series. But William Hartnell deemed them too dangerous on set (why..? Don’t ask). So they were swapped out for the softer plunger.

Just to show how movies have changed, the stabbing in 3:08 was edited out of the televised showing of this when i was a kid because of the violence as well as the knife throwing at 3:42
Makes wonder though, even when the robomen were free of the daleks control what longterm damage was done after the invasion ceased, the doctor was just lucky they could free him before the process had time to complete as for the ones who suffered complete robotisation well...
I have wondered this since I was about nine and what about the partial robotizing on Doctor Who and Tom. In Revelation of the Daleks we see the horrible dalek induced human mutation into a dalek creature. There is definitely a story to be told there in the aftermath.

Well, not just the negative effect, they had this thing where it looks like something is actually coming out of the gun. I mean, obviously the effects got better as time went on, but I prefer the effects from the 60's and early 70's over the fire extinguishers, personally
Its a fun movie but that music is a complete mismatch to footage of people being killed in various gruesome ways! Its like they thought "Hey, its a kids film so let's try to keep the maiming and killing lighthearted guys"

Always found bits of this film quite dark- Robomen weapons appear to burn through people (almost a true laser), and those Dalek foam sprays (some people think they're meant to be close-range gas weapons) always seemed a bit disturbing.

Huh? The movies are seperate from the TV show, they're based upon 2 of the original Dalek stories from the first Doctor's era, they're not related to the current ongoing series.

How can Daleks be primitive both canonically and in real life, when they dont exist irl....also for one im pretty sure it wasn't scripted to blow up at the bottom but even if it was, who cares makes the scene more interesting....
The film did not have the budget to bring to vision what 2150 admightt actualy look set as it is ahead of our current day!! everyone is still wearing 1950s clothing in a 1950s earth!

After all these years, I utterly adore this film. Its fun, campy and enjoyable all the way through. I love this and Dr. Who and the Daleks.
