Been loving this series man. Just bought an 01 with 190 on it it’s my third one of these they’re awesome trucks. This one was a no brainer for $750 congrats
Glad you went ahead and replaced the starter. Probably saved the next owner a headache down the road. Seeing that tunnel under the truck in the snow though, my jaw just dropped. Double bonus on it starting up to move, warmer place to work on it and the 4 X 4 system started working again. That rust didn't seem bad at all around the glass area. Being a national chain they likely didn't want to warranty it and just rejected the job instead. VT247
I had Safelite replace the windshield on my 07 Sierra two years ago. The technician was hesitant to do the job because of rust on the roof line. He explained I might not have a warranty if the windshield didn't install right. But everything went fine . So I say you just had bad or good luck with your Safelite location. Mine was $300 installed. So good on you installing yours on your own.
I've got a 2002 tahoe 5.3 flex fuel I only run cheap gas tho I got it 4 years ago this month .... I'm 6 k miles from it turning 250 k on the clock I bought it at 143 k for 4200 dollars in almost perfect shape ...... it was kept indoors when not in use by the previous owner ... I really lucked out .... but overall there amazing trucks and treat them right you will never need another vehicle ever again .....
Brilliant. Hilarious that the original starter instantly worked when you tried to start the car in the 25 degree weather. Glad you were able to sort out the windshield too!
Why fix my $700 chevy, when I can watch Rural Vermonter fix his. the starter on my chevy froze up one time, I thought it needed a starter, but I hit it with a hammer a few times and it's been working fine for over a year since. I went to C-Clear glass in Hartford to replace the windshield on my truck, it was only $200 bucks, but it looks like you got it yourself for even cheaper : )
I went to Safelite cause of chip in glass cause they had a fill type epoxy procedure which they advertised. Guy didnt even come out to my vehicle and he said "We can't guarantee it won't continue to chip or crack so best to replace windshield" . I still have same exact chip in glass for 3 years since Safelite visit to repair it. They didnt get anything from me when I was there to spend the $100+ to repair/fill chip.
Just got done going through my 98 ford escort. Bad grounds, front brakes, Water pump, timing belt, all idlers, serp belt, radiator, thermostat, thermostat housing, also the clutch master and slave. Cars can be painful. Bouts the only thing that will stop that car anymore is the original fuel pump or if I blow the head gasket. Keep at the work, always worth it in the end. (220k miles)
That Tahoe is barely broke in. My 2002 Tahoe has 304k miles on it and still climbing. The shocking part is it is still on the original build (original 5.3, original 4L60E). I commute between 250-400 miles weekly in it with almost no problems. The worst problem right now is the rear main seal just started leaking. We'll see when and if I get around to doing that job.
Thought I had the same problem with my Ranger , turned out to be a rotten connection. Mechanic checked out the starter said it was a good one but then noticed the wire was held on with 1 strand...
Wow! $95 for a windshield? Jeez. In the future I will say for longevity you should treat the rust with osphoric acid, basically rust converter, prep again, and then use the windshield primer on the metal side as well. Still, I know you do good work and the windshield repair will probably outlast the car unless it gets cracked again, hah. Oh and how did you get the 4X4 working? Just fiddle with it 'til it functioned?
@@802Garage yea i a little primer on the window to try to make the rust stop a bit but rust converter would have been better. And yea 4wd just fixed itself after it sat outside for 2 weeks hahaha

The first guy who replaced it fucked it up, so it had to be done a second time, and after the second time all the clips around the windshield were broken, so now I need to glue my chrome trim back in.
