It’s kinda funny that he says the flashbacks ruin the game but in retrospect it seems like an intelligent way of replaying critical story elements for the target audience (10 year olds who don’t read story). Might be a reason we all remember the story so well years later
well chat talks about it, it is made for a younger audience and most people don’t play the game for 5 hours at a time so the flashbacks are great for those people. but they’re definitely goofy for people like smant. 🤣
@@chadcolson7193 Yeah, honestly. I think the flashbacks are well-utilised, but it's definitely a lil spammy for how recent some of those are, which is definitely meant for the kids. Which, many of us were back when we played it! But not this guy, doing voices the whole way through, lol
they are also quite annoying when replaying nowadays, but hey, its just a few minutes of button mashing, so its ok :D
Also the flashbacks come after save points. So if you put the game down for a bit and pick it up again, its a reminder

An hour difference in sleep can easily spell death for an alcoholic blue color worker, especially with fog on a half hour commute. Big factors I feel.
And it’s not just the hour in sleep. It’s the whole circadian rhythm that’s off for days. It piles up as the week goes on. Then when your circadian rhythm finally adjusted you gotta recover from exhaustion first. Which obviously comes easier for some than for others.
He did 2 more streams after this! So hopefully this isn’t the last VOD that gets uploaded. They did come a bit later tho, the 1st being the Feb 22nd stream and then the second was from like mid August. But there is HOPE 🎉

I'm guessing either the game crashed again since we didn't get the ending theme cutscene with Chat the Turtwig telling everyone about what happened and Dialga's lil scene just before the credits roll lol. Or that Smant decided to purposefully have the vod editor cut it to end there for giggles lol.

the whole "slip and fall, can sue ya now" is overly simplified and has a lot more nuance to it. Part of which is whether the property owner has neglected the state of their property, whether they put known hazard on it, why the person who fell was even on the property, the injured the person is (if the person just got a bruised, then there'll be no reasonable point in suing and everyone will laugh at you), and any insurance (medical, home, etc) involved.
Man the voices really make this hard to watch, the first 2-3 were a chill vibe but the last 2 have been brutal
Agreed. I accepted Turtwig being ruined by the annoying chat joke but then it spread to other characters. Makes it hard to enjoy a good story.

Very much agreed, not to shit on anyone's ambition to work on voice acting, because I love seeing people learn how to embody a character. But having 70% of 4-5 hour videos be an intentionally annoying voice is cringe and very hard to listen to

i still dont understand why he isnt playing the souls games, it seems like these are the perfect games for his playstyle. It has a story, but the game doesnt force you at all to interact with it, it encourages finding things out for yourself, instead of following directions and they are generally challenging.

That poor reviewer had no idea he'd be getting ripped for his opinions this far into the future. Either their taste in video games is quite poor or IGN reviews have been bought by the game publishers the whole damn time like we expected. I'm gonna guess that I play way more Madden than the average Smant viewer, so I'm gonna let you know that Madden 25 was the 25th anniversary of the series and was the very next game after Madden 13. Madden 13 was basically the beginning of the end for Madden. It and Madden 25 weren't really all that special. Madden 25 made running the football fun again, the problem was you could run for 400 yards in one half, even on the highest difficulty. The current NFL record for an entire game stands at 296. I'm sure it was fun the first game he booted up back in 2014, but it was still Madden. That automatically caps the rating at 7/10, not that it will ever get there.
Ngl the voices got old by this part of the play through but its cool to know he thinks the story is pretty cool

It's actually insane how good his luck is [and how bad mine is] how many gummies he finds, how easily he locates the stairs, and finding his mon-exclusive stat items.

Normally i never find gummies even if i try farming them in dungeons they're common in, the stairs are in the last room i check [every single floor], and i never get my mon-exclusive stat boost items until postgame.
Smant just walking around the npcs mid dungeon is really stress inducing when doing so makes you lose hunger ingame

The IGN review of this game is a perfect example of why I've never gone to IGN for reviews. Honestly don't think we would notice any difference if AI started writing the reviews.
Back in my day, you had to read the instruction booklet if you wanted the game's story.

So funny thing about the title ... a certain other game company known as Mihoyo (Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact 3rd, etc) tends to get their games nicknamed as Depression Impact by the community, and whenever the Lead Writer says a certain story will be "positive and wholesome", its immediately a red flag for upcoming tears. From what I've seen of the entirety of PMD, it's just Depression Impact before Mihoyo became popular. Few things have hit me as hard as the Partner's breakdown at the end here.
It’s not JUST an hour different sleep, it’s the whole daily schedule that is different. The light that is different. Your circadian rhythm is seriously affected for the entire day, multiple days, in fact, not just that hour of sleep. People with irregular schedules are obviously less affected.
Also saying “oh their bodies are just weak” is kinda rude, people do genuinely get more heart failures during daylight savings because forcabily changing your circadian rhythm is just that heavy on the nervous system. I get extremely sick too. Yes, sickly people get affected the hardest, but people with underlying risk may not even know how at risk they are. Even healthy people are less focussed, so yeah, tons of car crashes.
Smallant is lucky to have such a healthy body (and mind!) to the point where irregular sleep doesn’t even affect him in the slightest. That’s a very lucky privilege.
I wonder if it’s going to come back to bite him when he ages. But looking at his past and his current condition, I bet he won’t notice any physical problems until he’s at least 70 years old. And if mindfulness works on him, he’s mentally unstoppable.

I never could do multiple floors without encountering multiples... especially the 0-PP traps...
I know this version is much easier, with all the busted items that were added and more effects that can affect bosses...

Is it just me or were the voices in this vod just so...irritating? Especially in the serious scenes in the last 2 hours -- it felt like every single piece of dialogue there was, SmAnt mocked with the ridiculous voices. It was so difficult to watch in the final hours seeing him there, slumped, making those squeaky voices, as if that story was one of the most ridiculous and tiring things he has ever witnessed.
I don't know. Maybe I'm just disappointed that, instead of appreciating the game as a first-timer, he went straight to mocking it. Instead of listening to the music, he kept talking and not taking note of it. Maybe he was forced to play this? In that case, that should probably clear up the problems -- can't exactly enjoy something you've been forced to do.

Gotta admit, Loudred was hella funny though.
I think he genuinely enjoyed it. He‘s not a story gamer though if that isn‘t obvious with the games he‘s usually playing and speedrunning. And you gotta admit the dialogue in this game really repeats things too much so that 8 year olds don‘t forget what has just been said. The flashbacks are the cherry on top. He said himself the game would be perfect if it weren‘t for all these flashbacks. I think for someone like him who‘s more of a gameplay gamer it can just get really annoying when story scenes get stretched out so much by characters repeating things over and over and flashbacks. He skipped some dialogue in this too saying „yeah yeah we know that already“. I still believe him when he said he enjoyed the game and said the plot twist in the future with the player being Grovyle‘s partner was good and he was genuinely surprised. For not being a story gamer he still enjoyed it for what‘s it‘s worth I think. And from a gameplay perspective he was really good. People keep saying he was overleveled and while that may be true for a few levels that wasn‘t what made his playthrough so easy. Sure he was also lucky to not encounter a single monster house in Temporal Tower but he also just used items really well throughout the whole game and didn‘t just try to brute force everything with attack moves only. I think this is my favorite first playthrough of someone simply because he actually didn‘t JUST play it for the story but also played the game really well.
I'm pretty sure he said his opinion on story in games in the first mystery dungeon video, something about not being able to get into the story in games or something I'm not 100%.
He definitely enjoyed the game, but sure, I can understand the voices being irritating to some. I can even admit that, as someone who actually enjoyed most of his voices, he could've probably done with 1 or 2 less of his jokey voices. At least, Primal Dialga/Dialga at the very end of the game. But he didn't intend to mock the story *at all.* If you want proof:
He specifically mentioned the story was an integral part of the game (which is true), and he usually tends to skip through them for many other games. He even talked about how much he loved the music and uses it often in his videos, too. Not to mention how he ardently defended this as a good game, in spite of the insane IGN 4.9/10 rating! It literally took him down a tangent of looking through their reviews, just to shit on them and feel vindicated at how PMD didn't deserve the rating it got.
I get it. I understand where you're coming from, but from the content I've seen, he *does* tend to skip through text, and he *isn't* much of a voicer. It's okay to let him enjoy a game how he wants to, and it's okay for him to entertain his chat/viewers to some success, and sure, to some failure. But as fans of a game, we can't assume somebody hates it just because they don't experience it 100% the way we want them to.

Im so sad that when I played exploreres of darkness as a kid I started skipping dialogue after the first few chapters, because i dont remember any of this and I had like all the legendaries you could recruit so I think I pretty much beat the game.
It genuinely had a great story, too. Especially to experience as a kid, having some experience with Pokemon games already, I didn't expect as much as I got. Grovyle's loss hit way too damn hard, but made me come to love that mon so much as a result. RIP the GOATvyle
