- Way back in 2018, there was a randomizer made for Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, so I decided to check it out... all loading zones, items, and coins were randomized and my goal was to collect all 7 crystal stars!

Don't you randomly get capped, even if you hit the input perfectly though? So wouldn't the game still cap it at a certain point?

The map names are 3 letters for the zone and 2 digits for the room number. "gor" is Rogueport, "mri" is the Great Tree, and "las" is the Palace of Shadow... there are others but I don't remember them all.
Also, the top-most location identifier is specifically your in-game sequence identifier. It specifically shows what progression flag you are currently on, telling you how far you are into the game.

I wonder what they mean. “las” is probably “last”. Maybe “mri” is “mori”, the Japanese word for forest.

Prologue:
gor -> ゴロツキタウン(gorotsuki taun), which is the name of Rogueport in Japanese.
tik -> 地下(chika) meaning "underground".
Chapter 1:
hei -> 平原(heigen) meaning "field".
gon -> ゴンババ(Gonbaba), which is Hooktail's Japanese name.
Chapter 2:
mri -> 森(mori) meaning "forest".
Chapter 3:
tou -> 闘技場(tougijou) meaning "arena".
Chapter 4:
usu -> 薄暗(usugura) meaning "twilight". (This is used for the town).
gra -> 薄暗(usugura) meaning "twilight". (This is used for the forest).
jin -> 寺院(ji'in) meaning "temple". (Creepy Steeple is called Odoron Temple in Japanese.)
Chapter 5:
muj -> 無人島(mujintou) meaning "deserted island".
dou -> 洞窟(doukutsu) meaning "cave".
Chapter 6:
hom -> ホーム(hoomu) meaning "boarding platform".
rsh -> 列車(ressha) meaning "train".
eki -> 駅(eki) meaning "train station".
pik -> ピカリーヒルズ(Pikari Hills), which is the name of Poshley Heights in Japanese.
Chapter 7:
bom -> ボム(bomu) meaning "bomb".
aji -> アジト(ajito) meaning "hideout".
Chapter 8:
las -> ラスト(rasuto) meaning "last".
Pit of 100 Trials:
jon -> ダンジョン(danjon) meaning "dungeon".
And there are certainly others that aren't featured in this video.
The lack of a seeded randomization really holds this mod back imo, i did the item randomizer but I just gave up at chapter 6 because I never got a single shine sprite
I think the last time i watched fatguy play this mod, he and his friends took great care to not say "randomizer" since it has absolutely 0 logic like other game randomizers. They went with "shufflizer" since it's main purpose is chaotically shuffling everything.
Yeah, I'm trying it and finding that out too, and now I'm left going, "Okay, so I need to learn how to cheat in some shines so I'm not stuck with basic companions the entire game. Okay. This is (not) Fine."
I mean I beat this game as a kid not knowing what shinesprites did so I never upgraded a partner 😅

There's this one, the Randomizer, which just replaces all items/coins with literally any other item possible, no item pool or anything, just literally grabs a list of all items/badges and picks a random one (which is why you can have impossible badge combos like multiple Peekaboos).
And there's the Shufflizer, which is the mod that does what you'd think a Randomizer mod does (grabs all available items in the game and changes the locations around, with logic and extra rules etc). In this case you wouldn't be able to get any impossible badge combos because the item pool is the exact same as the item pool in the vanilla game, with only the locations switched. The shufflizer was developed by jdaster.
Seq is "Sequence" which is how far in the game you are.
400 is the Shadow Queen fight, and that's the only one I remember by heart.
The reason Doopliss wasn't home was because your sequence was too high. If you get a key item (or use one) from earlier in the game, you can lower it.

Yeah after you beat doopliss you can go to the trouble center and the one at the bottom that says find a badge go to the top of the inn talk to ms.mowz go to hooktail castle get the badge give it to ms.mowz then she'll join your party and give you back the badge she can sense treasures you miss that's her special ability but honestly shes not really a good fighter

38:48 if they are flying your correct if they are hanging from the stage you can hit them with a quake hammer, so you wouldnt need to max out tremor to hit them. only if they are in the air.

Okay having it randomize every time you do through a doorway kinda is a blessing and a curse, blessing that can't just get stuck and have to backtrack like 20 rooms (possibly) but curse because.. now you can't backtrack to somewhere you know exists lol like.. now it's not like "oh I have this key item to do this room" but instead "great I have.. a thing and I guess I just... not care until I get lucky?"
Also why *did* you get so many items lol like did it somehow do some weird item drop scaling of "oh you low level so you need the boost"? That's my only idea.. or just randomizer is like "you'll just need a ton of shit so have fun managing inventory"

Btw if there is a way for the mod to have logic maybe next time have it be collect all Crystal Stars and beat Shadow Queen? So then.. it a bit more strategic than "enter and exit same door and pray for progress" since then that one tree room would have to be traversed lol

I think it might he fun to do this randomizer but the objective is to beat all 100 trials in the pit of 100 trials, also I believe the Twilight Town residents are supposed to be Scarecrows
that would take way too long to do like it's rare to get even one floor let alone all 100
The pit is actually only 6 unique map zones.

Honestly I'd turn off the coin randomizing, it's amusing and all but I feel like it makes things... Not easier, per say, but it's more interesting to find a crystal star in the overworld or something rather than being dropped by an enemy. Plus the surplus of items seems like it'd just get annoying after a bit.

This would be a bit better if it randomized more how Ocarina of Time does it. Every set item/reward/event/shop is a check, and within that pool things are randomized.
Having everything possible be able to come out of every single enemy makes it way too simple.

Theoretically if you equipped the Debug Badge, then did Power Bounce, wouldn't you end up soft locking your game? Because Power Bounce only ends when you miss a correctly timed button press, but if the Debug Badge automatically does every button press at the correct time, that means Power Bounce would never end, and it isn't scripted to end the attack even after the enemy is killed, meaning you'll forever be jumping on an enemy with 0 HP
The debug badge actually caps out at 9999 power bounces, so after about an hour and a half of bouncing it finally ends lol

If youre referring to how the remake looks compared to the original, you probably just have some nostalgic bias for the original, imo the remake looks better but ive never played the original
