Some of the comments mention that people are noticing one side of the heel looks great and the other side looks bad. The way to fix that is to ssk instead of k2tog to close those gaps. So when you're on the second half of the heel, Arne says to close the gaps by knitting to one stitch before the hole and then k2tog. You get a much cleaner result by doing ssk rather than k2tog. So ssk on the knit side and p2tog on the purl side and you'll get a great looking heel. (I realize this video is over 2 years old, but hope this helps anyone who is just finding it like me.) Thank you so much, Arne and Carlos, for all of your wonderful podcasts! I've learned so much about how to improve the construction of my garments so they will last a lifetime.
Yes, that's right! I have noticed that when you make SSK you "slip the first st as if to knit AND slip the next stitch as if to purl AND then knit them together through the back loop" the stitch looks prettier than just slipping both stitches as if to knit.
I was watching one of their videos this morning and accidently had it on 1.75 speed - I burst out in shock at his speed until realizing it was due in part to my settings! LOL.
Ok! With your help Arne, I just knit my first short row heel! Your instructions are GREAT! And now the short row heel is no longer mysterious. 😉 Thank you 🙏. I am hoping every sock knitter enjoys knitting the Pairfect socks because I am hoping you will be continuing to design for this magical easy enjoyable sock.
I have been trying to knit socks for years and just couldn't get good tension until I started Norwegian knitting! I have been knitting for 60 years. So now I am becoming an avid sock knitter!
I have never knit with Regia yarn and now I want to do my next pair of socks with the Perfect yarn by Regia Thank you so much for the heel help also. Much love to you both
I just started a sock with your beautiful yarn and ohmygosh what a pleasure it is to work with such lovely material. This is a very high quality product. I'm absolutely thrilled!!! Very, very fun to watch the pattern process. Thank you for this wonderful experience.
I love the Regia pairperfect yarn - it's genius. Thank you so much for demystifying the heel. I will be using this technique for all my socks now. You are wonderful!
Thank you for this video. It encouraged me to search TH-cam for videos on how to make short row heels without a wrap and turn, yarn overs or markers. I found several, and now I understand what I am doing and why. Many thanks, Rosemarie
You two are the BEST! I learned to knit from my Scottish mother who could not learn from her Scottish mother, so learned from a lovely Norwegian girl whose method was so much easier, and I must say, although I knit fairisle both methods, my main way is your way, and I LOVE IT. I also knit socks with 5 needles, although I am just knitting my first using the magic loop, and thought I would try your short row heel. Thank you so very much! This seems ever so much easier, and I will let you know how I feel about it when I have finished both socks. Hugs, j
It's interesting how Arne knits the purl stiches. 😉 The result is the same like I knitted the purls but with much more moves. Now I am purling like east european knitters do and I am happy to say that that technique is more easy plus fabelous in how the stiches look in the whole knitting work.
Hello, I have to say THANK YOU !!! For your video. I have been trying many years to do a good heel. And now with you two I 've done it, but I got a few holes on my heel and I' m not sure what happend may be is practice more. 🤗 love from Tenerife
Thank you very kindly for this explanation. It's simple and super helpful! Additionally, what a beautiful spot to spend time knitting. such peaceful scenery!
Love your videos. The view out your window is beautiful, calming and a great place to knit at. Oh, the plant on the sill, lovely. Hey, like the heel a lot too.
Dearest Arne and Carlos, I’m an intermediate knitter and still learning. I’m determined to make fabulous socks after a friend made me the most beautiful, comfortable socks I have ever worn. I really studied how Arne knitted the heel. I finished the heels without ANY holes and they are just perfect! Thank you both so very much for these incredible videos!!!!! Happy knitting! ❤️
I not too long ago started feeling comfortable knitting continental, but have stayed away from purling continental. After watching how Arne holds his yarn to purl cont. I am very inspired to hold the yarn in back while picking up for the purl stitch. Can’t believe I was able to catch that, because Arne moves so fast!
You both are great! By the way I knit similarly to Arne! Hopefully, I can knit as fast purling as you Arne! Love your dynamic because it's very genuine. I have purchased some of this perfect yarn and I can't wait to cast on! Gladly, I will re watch these videos to knit away. Hugs!!
I just found your channel. I have to say it is so relaxing watching you guys knit. And it makes me want to set down the shawl that I'm making and make some socks. :) Thanks for such great videos! I have subbed and will be watching you from now on.
I want to learn to make your heel. Looks so much easier than what I do. Love your knitting podcast thank you for showing us all your lovely knitting. Pattyj
I have continued to use this Regia sock yarn to knit TOE UP socks and stopped rewinding the balls since you said it was a waste of time when I could be knitting🤣: The patterns are still lovely.
Hi Guys!! not sure you'll see this since no comments for over a year, but is the heel 'join' supposed to look different on both sides? thanks! and I LOVE what you do!
Arne: I so wish I'd learned your method of knitting (Continental?) from the very beginning, but I am a "thrower." Your way is so much more efficient. I am beginning my sock with the Pairfect yarn, but I'm going to try to do an "afterthought heel." I've only knitted 1 trial sock with other yarn--first time using 5 DPN's. I had a lot of mistakes, but I learned a lot. Wish me luck!

When making the toe closure and the Kitchener stitches do you use the toe chimney or have any tricks to having the toe come out perfect without the ugly ears that can occur?
Dear Arnë, Thank you for this important video for short-row heel knitting. I'm about to knit my first pair of socks. While the video is detailed and thorough, it would be most helpful if I could see slower and tighter shots of closing the holes and switching from knit to pearl sides. Thank you very much Arne and Carlos for this wonderful Video tutorial... May ask please? Can I use this technique for Set in Sleeve or Shawl Collar? Hope to hear from you Guys... Have a nice day ahead...
Hi guys, is there a preferred length of needles that you use for knitting your socks? And what is the best way to cast on? I have got my first ball and I have never knitted on more then two needles. Do you think I may be taking on too much? Love what you do.
Hi Louse, we have made tutorials on how to knit the Norwegian way. You will find them in this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLElv_tSbHW3pntio5Li1Xpo31PpJ6-TSp.html Good luck.
I knit my socks on using only 4 DPNs...can you tell me which stitches I use, and I only using the heel flap stitched? I have 70 stitches, with 36 is what I would use for a short row heel, are these the stitches I would use...want to buy the yarn but want to know what to do. Thanks for your time!
I am to the section where I need to knit the heel. I have never knitted socks before but I am trying out knitting your pairfect sock. I have looked on your blog and website to find a written pattern. When I pull up the pattern there is no written pattern for the short heel just a video. Thanks for the video. I found it was easy to understand and see except for the M1. I couldn't quite see where you were making it from. Wish that part could have been a little slower and closer up.
Amazing work. But I would like to know if using double pointed needles is better than magic loop and circular needles or it is just a personal preference?

I am making my 1st ever pair of socks and I was anxious about the “wrap & turn” element of the heel. I’ve purchased their “Spiral Socks without a heel” pattern off their website as a backup plan 😂
Arne, two questions, please: 1.) When you slip a stitch, it looks like that if it's a knit round, then you slip the first stitch knitwise, & if it's a purl round, then you slip the first stitch purlwise. Is that correct? 2.) What is the name of the short-row heel that you're doing here? Thank you.

Megan Whitney Wondering if after your suggestion of SSK do you still need to M1? At least I saw where he picked it up when I slow the video down.
@@Tinacrafts2 Megan Whitney may answer you also, but after SSK you M1 just as you saw it on the video. And on the purl side you M1 after p2tog.
Paudeli1 Terrific! Thanks for responding so quickly. Now I don’t have to hold up my project 😄
@@Tinacrafts2 You are wellcome!
I swear I saw smoke come off Arne's needles as he was knitting! Hahaha! Wow he's fast! Love you Arne and Carlos!
I was watching one of their videos this morning and accidently had it on 1.75 speed - I burst out in shock at his speed until realizing it was due in part to my settings! LOL.

Those socks are the prettiest I've seen. The colors combined with the pattern design. Excellent.
I was knitting one of your birds and saw that shaping the rump makes a perfect heel-turn

Wow! Thanks, Arne, for teaching how to fill in those heel holes! Great!

Is your yarn released in the US. I can't seem to find it anywhere on the web for sale. I've checked your site as well.

There are lots of places in US to buy Pairfect. You need to use keyword Regia Pairfect. Here's one option: www.yarn.com/products/regia-pairfect
Do you have your designs in medium weight??

go to 11 minutes in for the challenging part.
Amazing work. But I would like to know if using double pointed needles is better than magic loop and circular needles or it is just a personal preference?
Hi, it all depends on what you prefer, we prefer dpns.
what?! really?! why on earth did i have to suffer through making a heel flap in school when it could have been this easy?! thanks for the great video!

What size needles are you using and do you prefer the wooden ones? Bamboo? Metal?
