  • “Dandelion” by The Rolling Stones
Composers: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
    Lyrics:
Prince or pauper, beggar man or thief
Play the game with ev'ry blow you bring
    Dandelion don't tell no lies
    Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
    Blow away dandelion
    One o'clock, two o'clock, three o'clock, four o'clock five
Dandelions don't care about the time
    Dandelion don't tell no lies
    Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion, blow away dandelion
Tho' you're older now it’s just the same
You can play the dandelion game
When you're finished with your childlike prayers
Well, you know you should wear it
    Tinker, tailor, soldier, sailors lives
Rich man, poor man, beautiful, daughters, wives
    Dandelion don't tell no lies
    Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion, blow away dandelion
Little girls and boys come out to play
    Yes!
Bring your dandelions to blow away
    Dandelion don't tell no lies
    Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion, blow away dandelion
    Blow away dandelion
    Blow away dandelion
    Blow away dandelion

Yes the Brian Jones time was full of ballads and rock music,, And many different instruments he used,,While after Jones the stones did mostly rock only..Very versatile time with Brian Jones,,Even Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin was impressed with Brian Jones.. Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison where very saddened of Brians death..I think the doors even did a song for him after his passing.

While Mick and Keith were struggling to compete with the Beatles Sargent Pepper, Brian Jones and his masterful palette of ethereal and haunting sounds, kept the band relevant during the flower power era, and saved them from fading away, like so many other bands into early 60's obscurity.

A wonderfully charming and sunny slice of 1967 Psychedelic pop. It's a natural progression from Ruby Tuesday which had come out earlier in the year and which announced to the world that the Stones were taking a break from their down and dirty Blues rock and exploring softer and more melodic territory. The Stones quickly took Psychedelia down a darker lane on Their Satanic Majesties Request which makes this delightful tune all the more of an anomaly in their repertoire. Dandelion solidly proclaims that the Stones could do sunny pop with the best of them when they felt of a mind to do so. I love it!

Man, the ideas they got from psychedelics and weed were other worldly. Not a single electric guitar in this track yet it is a rock song. Brilliant. This and Ruby Tuesday were on par with what the Beatles were doing and no doubt inspired by them. Helps to be friends with them, too, guesting on each others tracks in 1967.

    • @soundshaper

Stones Star Log supplemental 41389.1 - the harmonies dissected. I think Lennon and Richards are doing the falsetto high harmonies (especially distinguishable at 1:11) and McCartney and Jagger are doing the lower harmonies. Paul's falsetto would've made it more obvious the Beatles were in the track, they kept Paul's woo in the background at 1:25. As a huge fan of both bands, this is simply amaze balls.

The thing I love about this song is not a lot of people acknowledge that the Rolling Stones are ahead of the time the lyrics are actually inspired by a British counting or nursery rhyme “tinker tailor “ then of course the mixed up with a little psychedelic era, about how dandelions don’t care about the time dandelions will make you wise …. And of course we can’t forget that Brian Jones was actually still alive when they were recorded this song and don’t forget John Lennon and Paul McCartney were on the back up vocals how awesome is that!!!
But the kicker is since John Lennon and Paul McCartney , never admitted it due to the fact it’s wasn’t filmed at that time !!!
