This is the finest song Brian and The Stones ever wrote, in my opinion. Rhapsodic, melodic, lyrical - in short, everything you associate with medieval music and the 1960s, and one of the most 6beautifulsongs ever written. Why it is less well remembered and played, compared to their other songs, is a mystery, as it is so well written, and seems to conjur up a whole era. In a word, perfection.👌🎵🎶

Brian played some nice dulcimer on this track, but there's no reason, as far as I know, to believe he had anything to do with writing the song. 🎼

@@mariuspoppFM How do you know? I've never seen any indication that Brian was involved with, or interested in, the nitty-gritty of writing Rolling Stones songs: coming up with chords, melody, and lyrics. Brian added some nice instrumental touches to a number of Stones tracks, but there's no doubt that Mick and Keith were, and are, the songwriters in the band.

Rennaissance masterpiece. Probably about Henry VIII. Marie was the name of Anne Boleyn´s sister who bore Henry at least one child. He then exchanged her for Anne Boleyn, whom he exchanged for Lady Jane Seymour - "your time has run, my love" (for Anne) - and Lady Jane gave Henry the only legitimate heir.

My mother's name was Jane, and her maternal grandmother before her (born right after the Civil War to a Scottish father & Irish mother). We gave Jane as a middle name to our oldest daughter. My point being - the name proliferates from far back throughout British history. This beautiful song reflects that heritage with its decidedly medieval/renaissance flavor. I've loved it since 1966 when I was a mere lad of 21, now going on 79! Where the hell did all that time go!?

This song is so unique in the inventory of pop music. It has a Renaissance flavor but stays true to modern pop music with stronger accents on beats 2 and 4. The killer hook is the highly unusual descending minor 7th in the melody. We need more of this creativity. This song was rarely performed after its initial release, why? You never hear it on oldies stations either.

A l'époque, il y avait aussi " Ruby tuesday "en 67 et j'ajouterai " She's a 🌈 rainbow, pourquoi pas. De belles compositions Jagger/ Richards. Sans oublier "Angie" en 73: sublime 😊.

Then, I tried a web search for what i remembered of the lyrics and I just discovered Lennon & Co.'s song is actually... "Penny Lane"! Damn! I still have a lot to improve in my listening...
