  • “Lady Jane” by The Rolling Stones
Composers: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
    Lyrics:
    My sweet Lady Jane
    When I see you again
    Your servant am I
    And will humbly remain
Just heed this plea, my love
    On bended knees my love
I pledge myself to Lady Jane
    My dear Lady Anne
    I've done what I can
    I must take my leave
    For promised I am
This play is run, my love
Your time has come, my love
I pledge my troth to Lady Jane
    Oh, my sweet Marie
    I wait at your ease
    The sands have run out
    For your lady and me
    Wedlock is nigh my love
    Her station's right my love
Life is secure with Lady Jane

My grandpa died 13 years ago and up until now when I listen to this song, I kept on reminiscing the moment when I was 8, I always sit on his lap while we listen to Rolling Stones' songs, beatles and etc🤍 My grandpa used to sing this song to me since my name is NIÑA JANE ❤️ I miss him so much 🤍

This is the finest song Brian and The Stones ever wrote, in my opinion. Rhapsodic, melodic, lyrical - in short, everything you associate with medieval music and the 1960s, and one of the most 6beautifulsongs ever written. Why it is less well remembered and played, compared to their other songs, is a mystery, as it is so well written, and seems to conjur up a whole era. In a word, perfection.👌🎵🎶

Brian played some nice dulcimer on this track, but there's no reason, as far as I know, to believe he had anything to do with writing the song. 🎼

This is the most incredible piece of music I've ever heard. Brian Jones is fantastic as always, this time on the dulcimer, and Mick's voice is unmatched. My wife-to-be's first name is Jam, and likes this song even though she is younger than me. Now I call her "Lady Jam", after this masterpiece of music.

My mother's name was Jane, and her maternal grandmother before her (born right after the Civil War to a Scottish father & Irish mother). We gave Jane as a middle name to our oldest daughter. My point being - the name proliferates from far back throughout British history. This beautiful song reflects that heritage with its decidedly medieval/renaissance flavor. I've loved it since 1966 when I was a mere lad of 21, now going on 79! Where the hell did all that time go!?

The only meaning I got is that the singer used to date several girls at the same time, and, now that marriage time has come, it's time to shift to a more responsible life and he has to choose, he pondered and decided Lady Jane is apparently the most secure (including financially) option.

This song is so unique in the inventory of pop music. It has a Renaissance flavor but stays true to modern pop music with stronger accents on beats 2 and 4. The killer hook is the highly unusual descending minor 7th in the melody. We need more of this creativity. This song was rarely performed after its initial release, why? You never hear it on oldies stations either.

Lady Jane is an amazing ballad adorned with acoustic guitars and a Jones dulcimer, plus a glorious melody that conveys a fantastic medieval / Shakespearean atmosphere of castles, dungeons, abbeys, kings and queens, dark woods ... all long before the symphonic rock of Genesis and Yes will choke on all those things!

Such a gorgeous song I loved since I was a child. My mom has been a Stones fan for life. So I got to hear it all, especially since in those days she worked as a bookkeeper for a record store. We had all the new records as soon as they were released. Those were the days and I just didn't know it till later in my life.

Oh! for a return to the days of Flower Power and the Summer of Love. Life was so much simpler back then. Free Love and doing your own thing, in the days before HIV/Aids. We had it all... and we screwed it all up, for our children and Grandchildren. We were all so innocent back then, with no idea of what the future would hold for us, as we lived with the threat of Nuclear Holocaust, through the Sixties and Seventies. Life can be so Cruel.
