      @@timyo6288 Ratzenberger's fatal accident in Qualifying was caused by a front wing failure on the Simtek prior to entering the Villeneuve corner and hit the wall in excess of 185 mph leading into Tosa.

    If Ayrton hadn't have been killed, he would've closed the gap so quickly from the B spec car here from Europe onwards. He qualified over 4 tenths/second from Schui on this track. He would've dominated 1994,'95-'96, and '97 and that's 8 championships... Schui would've only then had 3. I think most of the money-sponsors would've gone Williams F1 way rather than Beneton/Ferrari and as a consequence would've made Schumacher (Beneton/Ferarri) much less dominant... Schui-v Good, Senna the v Best !

    @Redbird1XXX Had the wall been right at the tracks edge, the car would most likely stop right on the middle of the track. And Tamburello was basically a blind corner, you come around it only to find a car stranded in the middle of the track, and you run straight into it. I'm telling you, tyrebarriers and a wide runoff area would have been the absolute safest alternative.

  • @alxcsb
    @alxcsb 13 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @IExposeMormonism There is a documentary around here (or was at least) where they clearly show what happened. He did steer into the slide, but the front wheels did not have enough grip, hence the car went straight forward into the wall.

    @YouthEnergy When Ratzenberger's his front wing failed, he hit the concrete wall head on, and with the safety regulations in those days, he had very little chance of surviving that crash. Senna however I think would have walked away from his crash had a suspension arm not pierced his helmet. He hit the wall at an angle, a far less impact than what Ratzenberger suffered.
    But I agree, this race weekend alone, forced everyone to act on F1 Safety and in the end, it was certainly needed.

    @YouthEnergy 100% agree. And to be honest, even tyre barriers with the rubber 'conveyor belts' along them would've given Ayrton a better chance. As for the layout, other fast circuits have been subject to chicane treatment too - Osterreichring for example. Hermann Tilke got his mits on it, and instead of improving the run off and upgrading safety barriers etc, he castrated it into a shadow of it's former self.

    @YouthEnergy I agree....It's one of those corners that separates the Men from the Boys. Imagine SENNA did not perish; Williams produced some of the most dominating chasis in the mid 90's.... think especially of the 96-97 williams-renault cars!!! Senna would probably have the most championships if not, equal to, Michael Schumacher....

  • @hristoitchov
    @hristoitchov 13 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The wall wasn't a problem. Senna didn't have a single injury over his body from the impact itself. The car absorbed the force of the impact perfectly well and he wasn't even bruised. It was the weird coincidence in which the wheel and suspension crumbled in such an angle as to hit his helmet. It was more the lack of side protection of the cockpits than anything else. Same with Ratzenberger, his head hit the wall, but the car absorbed the impact well enough.

  • @LouieGee
    @LouieGee 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @YouthEnergy I agree with you, but it would be impossible to make a wider runoff area at tosa. At tamburello ok (and yet they would have to build a floor over a river that passes by its side), but not at tosa.

    @YouthEnergy your so right. corners are only made dangerous my lack of runoff space. i wish they would just extend the runoff areas instead of murdering race tracks.

  • @fdsaman123
    @fdsaman123 14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @YouthEnergy Runoff/tyres wouldn't have saved Senna - i.e. the wall did not kill him. It was just pure chance to get hit by debris. Ratzenberger - different story. Tyres may have saved him. But it was the shape of the wall that was so dangerous; it was at a sharper angle than necessary to the track. It would have been safer to have the wall run along with the track. Instead, there was a bit of runoff, which actually increased the angle of the wall to the track. Crazy stuff.

  • @YouthEnergy
    @YouthEnergy 14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @fdsaman123 Tyres would have saved Senna, because when you hit a tyrewall the debris doesn't spread as much. The debris would have probably contained itself within the tyres.

    I don't think the track layout itself was dangerous. It was the runoff areas. Too small, and no tyrebarriers. Wider runoff areas and tyrebarriers would have saved Roland and Ayrton. I personally think they ruined the Imola track with the chicanes.

    • @bjorge1896
      @bjorge1896 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      YouthEnergy, I totally concur with you with your assessment, putting in chicanes was a knee jerk reaction by Mad Max Mosley. Look what we have now, Herman Tilke shit circuits, chicanes over the place, pretty soon the buffoon Tilke will put in roundabouts every fifty yards to ruin what used to be the best racing series in the world.

    I get so tired of people taking about run-off area's when it comes to Formula 1. Yah if you can afford a thousand feet of realstate outside of a corner like Tambarillo then of course run off would always be the choice. But how far is the run-off area at Indy?? Had there been a wall right at tracks edge I think that Senna would still be here today. Although a hell of a hit, It would have been slightly more of a glancing blow. Not to different than many accidents at ovals like Indy.

    This is one of the last interviews Senna ever gave. That makes it particularly poignant. Palmer's comment that F1 s extremely professional is true, but neglects the fact that being professional means concern for safety. I would consider Nikki Lauda's coaxing drivers to retire en masse during a terrible storm to have been professional.

    It was a wide myth in the 1994 season that the benetton was underpowered. This was categorically not the case, as proven by the dyno figures from Cosworth which showed that, in fact, the Ford-badged engine was at least an equal to the Renault output.
