@soupstoreclothing it's definitely a horse for a level 1 character. Bethesda absolutely expects you to go straight to Weynon Priory right after the tutorial.
Fun fact: The whole "priests not being allowed to shed blood" thing had major implications for how the medical profession developed in the middle ages. Basically, what happened was that you got two different types of medical professionals. Doctors and Surgeons. Doctors studied medicine at the universities, but because early universities were religious institutions, studying medicine meant becoming a cleric and therefore taking a vow to not spill blood. Thus, a doctor could only treat his patients by administering medication and giving recommendations on how a patient should live, what they should eat, etc. Surgeons on the other hand weren't part of academia at all and just learned their skills through an apprenticeship. They technically started out as barbers, presumably because that job already involved treating people with a sharp blade, though you would sometimes also have other people such as executioners and nurses offering surgical services. Surgeons would operate on patients but weren't allowed to prescribe medication. So you've got this interesting situation where depending on what ailed you, you'd seek the services of two completely separate fields. If you caught a disease, you'd call for a doctor, but if you suffered an injury, you'd ask for a surgeon. A doctor might also end up prescribing a bloodletting session (based on their study of Galens teachings of the four humors) which you might then have to visit a surgeon for, because the doctor wasn't allowed to touch the red icky stuff.
I wonder if that's part of why Surgeons are so separated from General Practitioners today? Obviously they still go to medical school now, but they're very specialized. Although, I suppose if somebody's literally going to cut me open and rummage around inside me, I'd prefer they've done it a few times before...
I didnt see that on wiki. It discussed the elitism of doctors vs surgeon-barbers, as the former considered themselves above such acts. Surgeons were largely because yeah, already slick with a blade so what's some extra cutting? But also: doctors were just as likely to kill/torture you for research purposes! Especially in the industrial revolution. They paid graverobbers, picked up strays on the streets, and kept other patients for no real reason but their own cruel egos. So why risk that when surgeon-barbers are mostly gonna know how not to kill you and be less likely to have any reason to cause unnecessary suffering. Otherwise solid info! Nice to see this video gain 3k views since I opened it, this channel's challenge runs puts it at the top of my favourite content creators right now. This level of perseverance is insane to me, and as someone who grew up playing all these games it's wild seeing the self-imposed restrictions people endure for entertainment
Btw, it maybe because of the patch or something, but when I played Oblivion as a kid, Martin only cared about whether the gates are closed or not. Even though his dialogue sounds like he wants us to expell daedra from the city, he would always go with meto Jauffrey as soon as the gates were closed. The keep quest is a side, when I played the first time as a kid, I even missed it.
This is exactly the kind of Oblivion content I never knew I needed in my life.. tyvm sir for making this. It calms and fulfils my inner autism and gives me peace and enjoyment.
I really like the addition of the FFX tracks in the background while showing footage, id recommend upping it just a lil bit or upping it when just showing footage with no audio then lowering during dialogue
25:20 the game also forgets that you are in a fight if you quick save-quick load it. This trick is very helpfull when you try to fast travel buthe there is some angry mudcrabs in a kilometer radius of you.
Regarding the mouse cursor disappearing while in the lockpicking minigame, usually just pressing Esc to access the options list and then pressing it again to return to the game makes the cursor reappear. Also, great video! Makes me wanna play Oblivion again as well.
This was my first Elder Scrolls game. I remember buying it. It wasn't even a planned purchase, I bought it randomly while browsing a Gamestop, and it was on sale. Never heard of this series before that either. I fell in love with it, even though it took me a long time to actually get far in the game, cause I was terrible at it. I went through multiple builds, and the first build I completed Oblivion with was a Khajit warrior. I played this game to death. This was well before Skyrim. I love Skyrim to this day, but my experiences with these 2 games are nothing compared to Morrowind. I played Morrowind last, and it's my favorite Elder Scrolls. Everything changed once I played Morrowind. I don't look at Oblivion the same any more, I don't like it nearly as much as I used to, and with Skyrim, while I still play it, so many features from Morrowind are just stripped away. Anyway, Oblivion will always have a special place in my heart, but it's definitely my least favorite Elder Scrolls. I can't say much about Daggerfall or Arena, since I've only seen videos on them, but Daggerfall looks interesting, I gotta try it some time.
So awesome that you're doing oblivion runs! I really enjoyed all the morrowind ones so I can already tell this is gonna be great content. I think you did the challenge faithfully even though you got some extra levels on accident, you figured out that there is no need to read the books after all and stayed within the constraints so it's a GG there. Also kudos struggling through the game crashing, I've played a good bit on newer hardware and it is truly a massive pain how much it crashes. Lastly I think having your weapon drawn when you speak to people gives temporary lower disposition until you sheathe it and speak again, maybe this helps in future runs :)
That was quite an interesting set of rules you got here. It made me wish the Cheydinhal Recommendation quest didn't involve swimming in a well, or the Thieves Guild questline didn't involve fencing stolen goods, because I would have loved to see you tackle the remaining questlines under these rules.
There's a quest in one of the mages guilds, I think it's Cheydinhal or Skingrad, where you have to go get a lost wood elf guy in a cave. He's decent and he can use magic, and he's essential like Martin. Before I installed the CMPartners mod and got real companions, I'd get him and then never finish the quest so I always had a companion. You could have used Martin to start the quest, get him, and then finish the main quest with him by your side.
I thought you were going to use a mod to stop the xp when I read the title, but was happy to see you actually went with just making it hard by not using actions that give xp. Fun idea on this video in particular

Nice to see this video gain 3k views since I opened it, this channel's challenge runs puts it at the top of my favourite content creators right now. This level of perseverance is insane to me, and as someone who grew up playing all these games it's wild seeing the self-imposed restrictions people endure for entertainment
Four random levels be damned, this was remarkably impressive.
@@bigfennec Lemme rephrase, four levels be damned, he really did it.
"oh that's a neat idea. Oh wait. That's going to be a pain. A whole lotta pain"
That Vin Diesel/Vindasel joke got me to subscribe. It hit me the exact right way that I couldn't breath I was laughing so hard.

I absolutely love your sense of humour. This video in particular had me laughing the whole time.
Reading a skill book isn't gaining experience, it's gaining a level.
Thank you, Martin, for opening this *DOOR* ^_^
Im so excited to see another Oblivion video, I hope you do more oblivion! There's such a charm about the game
That freak is walking again. He's always walking. Never running. I swear, I never saw him run.
Mehrunes' packing some serious heat. It's at least 12 feet long.
35:55 Oh hey Todd, didn't expect to hear you here.
I was expecting a kenshi video, but was not disappointed when I saw the oblivion title
the pet vampire line got a genuine lol outta me, great video
Mr. Bean speedrun: bumps into the main quest, accidentally kills enemies, keeps gesticulating wherever he goes
i played oblivion so many times and had no idea that doomstones had a second effect you could get at night wow 5:50 thanks man
27:40 made me laugh. that zoom in on the "oblivion has stopped working" got me good.
Man, I always love when you upload. Thanks for the entertainment.
Honestly? A spell to fold people in half would be quite neat.
12:26 The little "Oh, hello" really killed me, idk why xD
The "I'm about to zero-sum" bit absolutely sent me lmao
i swear to god, ur vids help me sleep, i really use ur videos as background noise at night, then rewatch it by day
To the 5 people who dont know:
Clavicus is voiced by Todd Howard, and when you hear it, you can never unhear it.
Btw, it maybe because of the patch or something, but when I played Oblivion as a kid, Martin only cared about whether the gates are closed or not. Even though his dialogue sounds like he wants us to expell daedra from the city, he would always go with meto Jauffrey as soon as the gates were closed. The keep quest is a side, when I played the first time as a kid, I even missed it.
been watching elder scrolls challenges lately and the one thing they all got in common is the crashing, be it oblivion or skyrim, moddem or modless.
I love that paralysing animation, gotta play the game again just because of it
I hope you never run out of wild ideas to bring to video form. Fantastic entertaiment ❤
"our next stop is... the desktop" slayed me, well done
Get super jazzed every time I see one of your videos pop up, haven't finished video yet, but love it!
"You didn't grow, you didn't improve..."
Your music choices this episode have been on point
This is exactly the kind of Oblivion content I never knew I needed in my life.. tyvm sir for making this. It calms and fulfils my inner autism and gives me peace and enjoyment.
I really like the addition of the FFX tracks in the background while showing footage, id recommend upping it just a lil bit or upping it when just showing footage with no audio then lowering during dialogue
Another absolute BANGER video. Great work man. I certainly don't have the patience or skill for a run like this and it's so sick to see.
2:10 i beleive its ayleid ruins from when the imperial city was still elven, the sewers and blockages were built around it
25:20 the game also forgets that you are in a fight if you quick save-quick load it.
The constant shade toward Baurus was hilarious X)
I like how the plot of Oblivion is basically the plot to King Ralph
Why do I feel like the Oblivion gates are the perfect moment for a classic Dark Souls edge drop.
I’ve been around since the runescape vids on rs3 but man I’m happy to see you finally really pop off you’re so underrated.
Poor Baurus catching pot shots all run lol
Looking forward to the adventure of this sad, Habsburg-esque Nord.
Edit: Ea-nasir!
Random Korend Underground music in the middle of the video. Love it.
Spell Tomes also added some new cool spells so it isnt completly useless
One even lets you conjour a bear
"We return to the Priory with Martin" How hard could it be--oh. Oh I can't say it either.
I spent countless hours in Prif getting 200 million smithing xp.
Hearing that music in your video was like coming home.
That was quite an interesting set of rules you got here. It made me wish the Cheydinhal Recommendation quest didn't involve swimming in a well, or the Thieves Guild questline didn't involve fencing stolen goods, because I would have loved to see you tackle the remaining questlines under these rules.
Holy crap bro, 45k views in 1 day for a channel with 62k subs, this channel is blowing up. Great content brother keep it up
There's a quest in one of the mages guilds, I think it's Cheydinhal or Skingrad, where you have to go get a lost wood elf guy in a cave. He's decent and he can use magic, and he's essential like Martin. Before I installed the CMPartners mod and got real companions, I'd get him and then never finish the quest so I always had a companion. You could have used Martin to start the quest, get him, and then finish the main quest with him by your side.
That run looked painful, thank you for your sacrifice so that we may be entertained.
I thought you were going to use a mod to stop the xp when I read the title, but was happy to see you actually went with just making it hard by not using actions that give xp. Fun idea on this video in particular
"There are no Aedric artifacts on Nirn."
Crusaders' Relics and Brush of Truepaint - "Are we a joke to you?"
i loved the contempt in your voice when calling the portal a door
OSRS OST spotted, I see you.
"This is how I will feel at the end" lol best funny looking character I've seen
With that guy in the cage at the top of the tower, there should be a lever around on the floor that opens the bottom. Usually there's no floor directly beneath, so whoever's in there falls all the way to the bottom.
