I don't disagree but the thing that I've noticed in the videos of him in the studio (not live) are that - for the most part - he's playing at a medium volume. His instructional video is case in point - especially his kick. Man - when he does the two handed shuffle & quarter note kick - the beater is only coming back a few inches from the head but it sounds so solid.
This is not heavy hitting by any means. He has so much dynamic space to go from here ... 😊 that's the beauty of not hitting as hard as you can all the time, when you do, you have nowhere to go from there...

Absolutely! I'm just blown away with how he didn't hit too hard. Unlike most guys today that bash, he is in total control and still gets a huge sound

@@JeffWald yeah, jeff had insane technique, everything was just so natural-and he was always the professional. Loved to watch him play!
