This method does not work for ANY maze. If you use the wall-following method with a maze whose inner walls are detached from the outer wall, and the maze's goal is somewhere among the interior walls of the maze, all you can do is enter the maze, circumscribe it, and wind up leaving the maze again without ever finding the goal in the center. See the maze of episode 4 floor 10 of Wolfenstein 3D. The wall following method would not work.
