Just bought this one and I love I can save pictures and decide which ones to print. I get that the whole point of analog is to also have the excitement of not knowing how it turns out, but I also didn't like how much I "wasted" with failed pics 😭😂

My friend recommended this to me because its a good camera for beginners. So far I really enjoy it, almost as much as that jacket. I'm not really good at it, but I love bringing it out to friends and take some really silly photos. My cat is such a fantastic model to practice photo mechanics.

You know what? I can't hate this camera (even though I want to). Because whilst it betrays what I love most about instant photography; I know it wasn't made *for* me. It was made for people who already using their phone to in conjunction with a printer and want to start putting the phone away.
I also know that something like this would be better for tweens and younger, so they don't get as frustrated once they take a photo and it looks nothing like how they imagined. I moan a lot that Fuji don't try new things so I can't crap on this.
What I would love to see though, is a a blend of a digital viewfinder with an analogue lens. But thats probably just not possible.

I’m 27 going on 28, I grew up with film & digital. I used to have a simple digital point and shoot camera in high school. I always dreamed of having a dslr. I finally got one in my adult years & I’m tired of carrying such a bulky thing around. I missed the simplicity of the point & shoot digital cameras but I also love instax/polaroid film. So I got this to put away the dslr & stop using my iPhone for pictures as well. If I want to be more serious with analog instant film, I can just pull out my sx-70 film. But I’m not trying to throw it back all the way there, I’m trying to throw it back to the y2k era 😂

    • @novelezra
      @novelezra 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@ellielopez1615 I go through phases. My current phase is that I barely use my smartphone camera because it's actually busted (which is a blessing in disguise) and for trips to places I want to take photos (like the coast and whatnot) I take two levels of instant film. Polaroid 600 with an SX70 for shots I think will look great and a Diana Instant Square for my Instax.
Currently I have no point and shoot as much as I'd want to. I adore 35mm point and shoot but it's a pain in the ass getting the film done in the UK.

I was on the fence about this thing given its hybrid function and only recently had a revelation. The Evo doesn't hang out with my other instax cameras anymore, instead it's in my kit bag with my Fujifilm digital camera, because while you can print from your phone you can also print directly from a Fujifilm camera which is really neat. I already keep a Wide printer with me in case I want a quick printout but sometimes having a smaller form factor is nice, and while I could just use a Mini printer sometimes it's fun to use the Evo for quick street shots without busting out the full Fuji camera. It's become a strange companion to my main camera and it really works in that capacity.

Appreciate your reviews as always. This is a really interesting move from Fuji, but none too surprising considering the increasing popularity of film printers and as you said, plenty of folks out there don't care how the picture is taken. They just want to have something physical. Incorporating the physical dials to change digital settings was straight Fuji remembering that people love those dials. It's practical. It feels good. It's way cooler then scrolling through settings on a screen (which you still have to do of course, but not to change some settings). It turns me off a bit that it's digital, but the biggest turn off for me, and it's the same with the Li Play, is that there's no viewfinder. Just giving me a viewfinder like the other instant cameras, but being forced to only use an LCD, and a not fantastic quality one at that, really takes away from, not just the analog experience, but the whole photography experience. To me screens camera phones. If I'm buying a dedicated camera it's gotta have a viewfinder.

    • @InAnInstant

I have a mini 11 for about 1.5-2 years now and i have wasted so much film not only because i don't know how it will turn out but also because the iso is fixed and in daylight it's always burned (I'm in Greece, too, so we have like 200+ days a year of sun. I can't take photos during the Day) while in low light everything outside of the flashes range is pitch black... Just bought the evo and it's so convenient. It's actually a camera. The mini 11 was a toy used in niche situations like parties, festivals etc. The evo I carry it with me most of the time... Like an actual camera. It's also nostalgic for me because it reminds me of 00s when we used to carry compact digital cameras with us with low MP. It shoots kinda like that, but with the filters and the printing it comes out like any other instax analog. Only thing missing is a viewfinder. Hopefully in one of the next versions!

I've matched many videos comparing the two but personally love the liplay for its more analogue-looking photos. The evo prints too sharply and captures many details i wouldn't expect regular instant cameras do which I find is what makes it more digitalise. But of course if you're looking for something of sharper prints then yes :)

I'm still mad at that sensor. If you buy a $100-ish point and shoot, you get a 1/1.7" sensor with actually respectable optics. If you buy a $200 Instax Mini Evo, you get a 1/5" webcam that's so crappy it actually evokes some early 2000s nostalgia just by being bad, apparently. The printing functionality is nice to have, the UX seems awesome, but the _only_ point of this camera over a Mini Link printer is that it's allegedly a camera, and yet that's the aspect it sucks at? Come on Fuji, you can do better than this... I mean, you can, right?

What I’ll say is that the images only look dodgier when viewed as digital images, but I think once they are printed it “melts the pixels” as we said. I think it’s relatively capable all things considered, it just can’t be compared to a normal digital camera.

@@InAnInstant What's the resolution of the digital files you get out of it? Instax film itself is quite sharp, but I think the printer in this thing is 1600x600 -- which is, by the way, another part where it's weird and illogical, previous Instax printers and the LiPlay were 800x600, but while it seems like they got some additional resolution out of that stepper motor (the printing head in this is like a reverse scanner), they didn't bother to up the horizontal bar from 600 to 1200 pixels. That might be the reason why it melts the pixels together.
In person, if you compare a phone pic printed on the Evo to a Lomograflok shot, it should show the difference in the film sharpness, if it's indeed there.
All things considered, I don't dislike the concept of instant photography, I just wish they didn't cut so many corners. Would be fun if they stuck a high-res Instax Mini printer into a proper APS-C camera.

The pixel count of images directly from the SD card is 2560 x 1920, but that pixel count is only half the battle, the quality of the censor leaves something to be desired!

Hey I’ve got a question! I was interested in this as a beginner, but tbh I’m not crazy about the Polaroid feature. Are there any other digital cameras that you’re aware of that will shoot with that same like film/retro/ lowery quality vibe but not have the printing stuff? I wanted a similar camera for like selfies and vacations with unique images but I feel like the printing features is not something I’d pay more for. Anything under like 4-500?

For the first time Fujifilm made an Instax camera worth looking at, but decided to stick a digital sensor inside. Maybe the next time we have a real film camera with the same looks?

Can you re-connect a phone you accidentally deleted in the 'Delete Pairing Reg' selection? I am struggling to connect my phone again. I have tried restarting both my phone and camera, updated my phones software, and deleted and redownloaded the instax evo app.

Man this is epic!! Yes it’s a toy sensor from a web cam, but that’s a thing now, if you ever owned an early 2000nds or 90s cameras / phone than that’s what it use to be like, and it’s become a whole genre of its own …. Add an analog medium to it and throw in a bunch of cheesy effects …. And wrap it up in a stylish body…. I’m sold 👏 stopped the vid halfway to check availability 👌🔥

I used to have a 2002 Canon Powershot and this camera scratches that nostalgia itch of having an rinky dink camera that makes you feel both young and old somehow? But gives you the option as well for a physical copy of the photo, I dig it.

I love instant film and have several Instax cameras, but I dont get this one at all. Its a super low quality 4.9 megapixel sensor combined with an even lower quality lens. If you want to shoot digital and print, you are much better off just taking photos with your smartphone and using an Instax printer. Will save you money too.
