Been hesitant to try my hand at Helbrecht, because it’s such a cool model and I didn’t want to screw it up. But this is an easy to follow tutorial that isn’t overly complicated and looks great. I’m gonna give it a go.
WOW !!! ....was only a couple of weeks ago someone asked for a Grimaldus tutorial and I asked if you would do Helbrecht instead. ...great tutorial, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we really appreciate it. xx
Absolutely brilliant. I’m coming back to 40K after “a few” years away and I’m starting a Black Templar army. Thank you for putting this together. It’s clear and inspirational.
Best guide I have seen yet. Loved the video so much I went and dropped 150$ on paint😂😂😂. That's how much I liked the video and I may or may not be following it to a T. Well except the primer. AK fine primer grey is the only difference. Amazing video. Seriously you my friend are a legend+ a life saver. Maybe not a bank saver but definitely a life saver. Thank you for all the hard work you do.
@@ThePaintingCoachso far it's looking pretty dang good. I mixed up runelordbrass, sycorax bronze, and a dash of retribution armor for a lighter accent. But for the most part followed this video pretty closely. Put that mix on the helmet and right shoulder pad. Still have to paint the terrain and servitors though.
Brilliant work on Helbrecht, and an excellent guide. You are my go to! Please, please, please finish off the Black Templars with Grimaldus and Retinue!
Just found your channel after recently getting back in to warhammer. This will really help, thanks a lot. Would be great to see a large figure like Gopsprakk the Mouth of Mork
Found your channel with the Silent King, used your tut and got great results. This is another of my favorite models they've made, so gonna have to follow this as well! I had a decent base with P3 gold before but things got messy quick - time to start clean the right way! Cheers PC
Love your tutorial and it helped a lot with painting my Helbrecht! I don't know if you take requests, but could you do a tutorial on Tan DKOK Great Coat?
Thanks - glad it helped! I haven't got the models ahy kore unfortunately - I'm trying to think what might work that I have done previously - the pants ony Beast Snagga orks maybe
Great video, very easy to follow. Wish you included how you painted the base, but oh well. Quick question would there be a chance of you painting a Loonboss on a giant cave squiag at some point in the future?
Do you mean the rocks? Just quickly added mechanicus, administatum and white, mixed them up on the rock and let it dry The attendants were painted the same as helbrecht, and the sandy bits are basing from Geek Gaming scenics I probably won't get round to the loon boss - not soon at least but who knows what the future holds!
I don't i'm afraid - off the top of my head the flesh was done using the lightest tones of Helbrecht's skin, and the bodysuits were mechsbicus grey, nuln oil, and then a mech grey light
I haven't specifically - most of my tutorials are beginner friendly though. My best advice to get started is to practice on some spare parts to get a feel for it
Great video, thanks! But I have a question - you use come Chrome paint to layer the silver parts. What it is? Can change this Chrome paint to some Citadel paint? What would it be?
Just part build my model to the first stage in your video. Was planning on priming it with chaos black spray. The smaller pieces (head, shoulder pad, cross and skull wrap) would it be best to just prime those bits with a brush?
Nice! Just getting paranoid about priming the part model and then not being able to stick on the smaller bits! Look forward to starting this tonight! Love your content btw
Finished the big man! Really pleased with the finished product. I know it’s been asked before, but will the hero of Helsreach be blessed on your channel at some point?
I know I'm late to the party but had a question. Usually on my models I use a Matt varnish spray upon completion. Will that dull the Metallics too much what would you recommend?
Did you mange to paint the interior of the cloak with him put together? I'm just about to attempt it but it looks like it may be really awkward to get colour in
@@ThePaintingCoach Yeah looking at it I wish I'd have done the same, I've just got the balthasar gold down, do you think I'm best getting inside the cloak first before anything else so I've only to cover up one colour from the inevitable mistakes
Dumb question, but I'm still relatively new to this. How do you paint in those hard-to-reach areas on the underside of the cloak? Just really carefully or do you ignore them?
@@ThePaintingCoach Hi! When we had a coaching session a while back I remeber you cautioned heavily against wet pallettes because they took away some of the control you had over your paint consistency. Change of heart here or are there times and places where you prefer wet over dry? Brilliant video as always, have a great holiday!
Hey not sure that was me?! I've used a wet palette for years and have used one in ever video I've done - only thing I can think of that I may have said is that when you are starting out, learn about paint consistency on a dry palette first 👍🏻
@@ThePaintingCoach I like black b/c there's no need to black line/pin wash the creases, lines since they're already black. But I found using contrast paint for that purpose makes life easier.
Thanks Clayton - I appreciate the feedback! I'm working on balancing the pace with the content - as of last week I am making all my videos available on Patreon in the same style as my older ones 👍🏻
Im going to buy this and make an epic ghazghkull Thraka dio where gazzy has dispatched all three of these guys and i will have a painboss administering aid to the fallen ork. Because waaagh
Thanks for the feedback Kevin - the longer videos are certainly easier to edit! Unfortunately they have terrible retention which means that TH-cam doesn't promote them as much. I am currently offering the longer form videos as part of my patreon perks 👍🏻

Your tutorials are hands down the best on TH-cam butt. My miniatures have never looked better.

Thanks for all your work ! Learned so much. Could you tell me what kind of drill, sticks, brush you are using ?
Drill is a pin vice with a 0.5mm bit. I use paper clips for pinning and a Rosemary and Co Series 33 brush
@@ThePaintingCoach thanks !

Great stuff .Thank you nice job ;)

Do you have a guide on how to paint the servitors?
I don't i'm afraid - off the top of my head the flesh was done using the lightest tones of Helbrecht's skin, and the bodysuits were mechsbicus grey, nuln oil, and then a mech grey light
Do you rub off paint for where you want to glue pieces or keep as painted and glue together?
Scrape a little paint off both contact points 👍🏻
Do you have a video for if I've never touched a paint brush before? I've painted a couple so far. The only thing I've learned is to thin my paints.
I haven't specifically - most of my tutorials are beginner friendly though. My best advice to get started is to practice on some spare parts to get a feel for it
When you get the metallic layers just right ✋😩👌
Thanks!
Great video, thanks! But I have a question - you use come Chrome paint to layer the silver parts. What it is? Can change this Chrome paint to some Citadel paint? What would it be?
Chrome is from Vallejo model air, but you can use Stormhost Silver from citadel
@@ThePaintingCoach thanks! I will be great to see your work on Grimaldus and Retinue:)
how were you able to paint the part of the cape between the model's left arm ang main body?
With great difficulty! I'd advise leaving the lantern off if you can
Just part build my model to the first stage in your video. Was planning on priming it with chaos black spray. The smaller pieces (head, shoulder pad, cross and skull wrap) would it be best to just prime those bits with a brush?
I always prime with a can or an airbrush 👍🏻

No worries
Did you mange to paint the interior of the cloak with him put together? I'm just about to attempt it but it looks like it may be really awkward to get colour in
Yeah i did - in hindsight I'd have left that lantern off
@@ThePaintingCoach Yeah looking at it I wish I'd have done the same, I've just got the balthasar gold down, do you think I'm best getting inside the cloak first before anything else so I've only to cover up one colour from the inevitable mistakes
Yeah i would
Dumb question, but I'm still relatively new to this. How do you paint in those hard-to-reach areas on the underside of the cloak? Just really carefully or do you ignore them?
Bit of both - if you can't see it, no need to paint it - it's easier if you don't glue the model to the base, like in the video
Hi PC I was wondering what do you use to hold the head and the body?
That's a large cork with some paper clips used as a pin 👍🏻
@@ThePaintingCoach wow okay great and the head perfectly sits on it or you drilled into it? Is that the same for the body too?
Yes you may need to trim away the bottom - in this case, there is a hole for the head do its no problem
@@ThePaintingCoach okay great thank you never have painted with a model not glued all together so I need to try it just seemed alot easier 👍
No problem - yes for some it's easier :)
How did you paint the servitors
I think clothing was incubi highlighted with thunderhaw and fenrisian
Flesh was rakarth with reikland shade and rakarth then pallid highlights
Awesome man! Do you think its possible to mix Corvus Black by yourself with Abbadon Black and a liiitle White Scar?
Thanks Oli - yes - but it will be a very small amount of white that you need 👍🏻
Do you spray varnish after finish painting?
Very rarely - only really if I need to homogenise the finish
How do you get your base coat to look so smooth!?
Just by thinning a little, using a wet palette and making sure I don't have too much paint on my brush

They have been round a long long time! In fact they were in the 3rd edition box set which much be about 25 years ago, if not more!

Rosemary and Co

Yes next week 👍🏻

No it was Mechanicus Standard Grey 👍🏻

Why no dead ork on the base?
No dead ork means he fits in fighting against any enemies - for me the ork would look out of place
