I remember doing little chores for my dad and then he gave me a little bit of money, so I could save up for when Pokémon Ruby released. He made sure I had just enough on the release date. He tought me that you have to work for the things you really want. I also remember going to the store with him to buy the game and playing it and try to explain him everything that happened. He did not understand a thing of it, but he tried to remember the names of all the Pokémon. So sometimes he asked: 'did you're Chikorita already evolved?' Even tho he did not have a clue what that meant, he did it for me... My dad passed away last year due to cancer. Listening to this medly made me cry, because I am thinking about those times. Thinking about how well my dad raised me, and reliving those memories. The nostalgy is real... Thanks for making this video guys... ❤

Don't know if you still read these comments after 4 years but I just wanted to say this video brought me so much joy and nostalgia. I'm in a low place currently and this was truly awesome. Hats off to you my friend. Thank you for sharing your talents with the world
5 years have passed. Half a decade.. I still come back to listen to this masterpiece every now and then and every time it makes me smile like the 10 year old kid I once was... THANK YOU.
Hearing Littleroot Town's theme hit me with this incredible wave of emotion. I remember being so excited when my dad took me to GameStop to pick up Pokemon Ruby. It was a used copy and I booted it up. The guy before me had so many hours played and 7 year old me was wow'd at all his legendaries (in retrospect they were most definitely hacked but I didn't even know what hacks were at the time). I walked around on his save file a bit before ultimately starting my game. I felt a bit bad deleting all that progress, but I knew I had to experience the game for myself. Sometimes I still think about how many hours of memories are stored on those carts. Thanks for helping me remember what wonderful memories this game gave me.
It's amazing that everyone has their own unique memories associated with these games. Grateful that this video could help you recall yours - thanks for sharing :)
I grew up poor. My first ever game system I owned all on my own that I got as a birthday gift was a black GameBoy Advanced SP at 11 years old back in 2004. My grandpa sent me a Disney Princess Walmart gift card for my 12th birthday in 2005 and I knew what I had to do. I marched into Walmart with my head held high and asked the electronics clerk to open the video game case. I grabbed Emerald and walked with him back to checkout and I was never the same after that. Emerald helped me through so many rough times. My Sceptile TreeTree and I went to the very top together and I will forever cherish him. This medley makes me immensely happy in ways nothing else can. You have created a masterpiece.
Damn. The oldest console i own bro is a PS2. It isn't even mine. Its my adult brother's. Doesn't matter though, ORAS is good enough. Whats funny though is how much things change. If i want a game i wont go out ill just order it on Amazon XD
I burst into tears when listening to this...my wife was shocked lol. Then I explained how this video reminds me of my childhood as I calmed down, she gave me a big hug : )
This was actually my last Pokemon game before I entered the real world, things were not good at home so this game was my escape. So many hours playing, listening to this takes me back to those days. Now I play this video every night so my 3yr daughter go to sleep, she obviously doesn't know what it is but asks for me to put it specifically. I'm just extremely happy to see her enjoy something that brings me so many memories. Thanks for making this. As a fellow musician I Know the hard work this most have taken.
I'm italian, and currently under lockdown due to coronavirus. I'm cooking blasting this in my house, to forget the insanity it will be this month long quarantine. Thank you
Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald really deserve their titles, these games are real gems. Edit: I never thought a stone pun would get so many likes. You guys rock!
I am Japanese. I'm sorry, my English is not good. I'm a junior high school student now, and I'm working hard to study English using this. I love Pokemon! Thank you for the wonderful song! P.S. Thank you everyone!
>17 minute Prog epic >Shifts genres consistently throughout >Fakeout ending at the 11 minute mark to reveal a slow buildup to a sweeping finale that ties the original theme back together in a nice cohesive bow >Wears a btbam shirt Ok it all checks out
Sometimes I play some prog metal for my friend (who has little knowledge of prog) and he always says it sounds so similar to video game music. Then I noticed the similarities, and now I can't un-hear it.
2023 and this is still the best Pokémon video on TH-cam. As someone who grew up with Gen 3, thank you to everyone involved in this spectacular production. 💕🌋🌊

I am Australian. This movie IS very good. I LOVE Pokemon BGM too. I love ya~ Music is a universal language that all can understand. In a way, it unites us.
This might sound dumb, my mom and I used to play Pokémon (specially emerald) when I was a kid. She passed in February, and this fills me with so much nostalgia. Not just as a kid, but also for my mom, thank you :,)

this videogame literally defined who I am and who I want to be. Not only this was my first game ever at 6 years old, it was the game that introduced me to gaming, and if it wasn't because of this I probably would be a different person, not as happy. It also impressed me with its scientific orientated thematic, I will always have a crush on the oceanographic museum, it was fascinating, and nowadays I am studying to be a biologist. This is my most loved videogame.
I have a similar story to this game. This game was a big influence on the election of my profession. I'm a physicist. Mossdeep Space Center, Deoxys, Devon corporation, and the Weather Institute really increase my curiosity about nature when I was a child. I love to read comments like yours!
There's no way to understate - this was absolutely brilliantly done. As A Pokemon fan and musician both for 20 years now, I can tell that this was an incredible labor of love. I was bobbing my head, grinning at the thought and care placed into your instrumentations, harmonies, levels, transitions...everything was just so stupidly good! This music is so sharp and clean and transporting, I felt like a kid again. And all of that is without speaking to the awesome production quality of the video itself and the delightful skill of everyone who loaned their abilities to this medley. TH-camrs take note - THIS is how you arrange tunes! I'll be listening to this many more times, thanks for making such a great video.
Nothing more to add here. You just hit the point with that comment and youre speaking right out of my mind and surely out of many others too. This was purely amazing and I bet it took a hell lot of effort to create this. This was by far one of the best medley I have ever heard and it filled me so much with nostalgia, that I actually cried many tears. Just thank you Dr Pez and all the other musicians too for doing this!
And I want to add that this video it's a better remake of the RSE soundtrack than the official one of ORAS. This respect much better the energy and cheerfulness of the original OST
It's been a year and this is still the best Pokemon medley on TH-cam. I've listened to it so many times now that I could make a top 5 moments in this 17 minute song. 5. Those 4 descending notes on keys in Slateport at 13:21 4. When the acoustic guitar enters on Route 110 at 12:14 3. The solo piano reprise of Littleroot halfway through 2. The entirety of Rival Battle, but especially the synth breakdown and the electric guitar solo immediately after 1. All of Petalburg. Just all of it.
@@russelltobarretamal8133 Did you read the recent pinned comment? He’s delaying it til at least March, if not later, because the project ended up being bigger than he anticipated. So let’s all support it when it comes out, and give him and his team all the time they need to make the DPPt medley the best it can be!
Seriously, I thought I was alone in thinking that the remakes didn't capture what made the original OST so great. You on the other hand, have managed to breathe new life into these tracks while also holding true to all the nostalgic musical tidbits. Thank you for doing Gen 3's music justice.
This is one way that I think HGSS really knocked it out of the park. Instead of remaking the music with newer samples and without hardware restrictions like ORAS did, HGSS reimagined the soundtrack. That, in my opinion is what an official remake of a game should do. ORAS' soundtrack is still great though.
Rival Battle is such a fucking banger, it's incredible how faithful you were to the epicness of it ! Insta play-list material and worth the sub and bell like no one else before 🖤

Currently a second year medical student in the US. It hasn't been easy dealing with being on the front lines of the pandemic, keeping up with studies, and more. It was especially rough in early 2019 when I wasn't sure if I was even going to get in to med school. I found you when reminiscing on the first video game I ever owned and played, Pokemon Ruby when I was in elementary school. I've replayed Ruby and Emerald over 100 times since my family wasn't really able to afford new video games. Hoenn and its music is the generation that holds the most personal meaning to me and you brought the music to life like no one else has before, ORAS included. The first time I heard littleroot town in this medley, tears were streaming down my face. Hearing this again for the umpteenth time while dealing with the pandemic, I still find myself smiling with tears in my eyes. This has gotten me through many a long night. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping me revisit simpler times and treating the music of the game that means the world to me with this much love and affection. You've touched so many lives with this.
Keep going man what you’re doing is amazing and really awesome and if you feel low just remember that you’ve got a family always waiting at home and a team or friends that’ll always be there, much like Pokémon itself !!!! Adventures are never easy but you have what it takes cheers
To those bright people who made emulators and roms of these games, thank you. Without you, kids with no money wouldn't able to experience such games :"
This is basically the soundtrack to my childhood. Between this gen and the original spyro trilogy, there is always ambient music from one of them playing in my head at all times to this day. Fall sounds like the autumn plains. The house i grew up in still sounds like littleroot.
@@NightmareShadows13 Don’t get me wrong, this is superb, but he missed most of the best tracks: Verdanturf, Rt 113 (falling ash), Elite 4 and Champion battle music, Underwater sea floor, Sootopolis city. However I was pleasantly surprised by his inclusion of Fortree city
I cannot overstate how good I think this is. Nostalgia aside, speaking as a musician, the arrangement is OUTSTANDING and you absolutely succeeded in your objective to honour the feeling of the source material. I have no idea how many times I have listened to this over the last few days. If you have a patreon or SoundCloud or something, I would gladly donate something for the immense value I've got out of this, and will continue to do so for a long time. Amazing work, can't wait to see what you do next. Love it.
This is the only video I've found that satisfies my need for a solid Pokemon theme remake. It's not just another "metal cover", but an incredibly faithful tribute that goes above and beyond the original. Truly a musical masterpiece! Please make more :)
Seriously. For it to be such a large franchise, the world is seriously lacking in good Pokemon music remakes. Not to turn this into a shout out, but 88bitmusic did a pretty decent cover of the Red and Blue OST. (btw, he doesn't do 88-bit music)
I cried and saved this medley in my heart, when i was 16 i had my first girlfriend and we both played pokemon emerald... well when we had 7 month of relationship, she dies from a heart attack while she was sleeping... befote that, she gave me her female blaziken named "Firedancer", adamant nature... and from that day 'till now (i have 25) i keep that blaziken in my file of ultra sun... it was beautiful hearing that song and remember those moments, thank you!!... Geetings from Chile! EDIT: Thanks to everyone for your kind messages, i tried to answer all of them, i wish you all the best of luck and a good life... is sad i've lost the heart that Dr.Pez gave me but i will remember it with a huge smile! Thanks again... to all of you!
I found this music video roughly 2 years ago. At the time, I was struggling with online college classes and my mental health, seeing as how the pandemic changed the world in an instant. I didn't have much of a will to finish the nursing program at that point. Some of the teachers were ruthless, despite being the ones who preached about self-care and kindness. It was hard to wake up every day. I played Pokémon Ruby as a kid, and it's my favorite Pokémon game to this day. A friend had introduced me to the game, and I had a blast learning about the different Pokémon and how their types worked against each other. I took my Gameboy everywhere. To mall trips with my mom, to the grocery store with my dad, and even under my covers hoping that I wouldn't get caught playing during bedtime. The music was one of my favorite things about the game, so you can only imagine my reaction when I randomly stumbled upon this video. It absolutely blew my mind at how well this cover was written. It gave me the motivation to pick myself up and keep moving forward. I graduated from nursing school (got my BSN) today. I will be working as a nurse in a few months. This music video helped me get through my last 2 years of school. I played it on the way to clinicals at 5:30am, when I was pulling all-nighters studying for exams, and whenever I was feeling hopeless. Each time I played it, the music would bring me back to the time all those years ago where I felt confident in myself, where I was happy to be where I was, and where I felt unstoppable. I told myself that if I actually made it through college alive and well, I would come back and write this, because I thought you should know how much this means to me. Thank you for making this video because it gave me the little push I needed to keep going.
This sounds like what we felt it sounded like back in the day. And I don't think there's much higher praise that you can give this kind of work than that.
STOP BEING SO GOOD UGH This is seriously impressive, mate. Gen 3 is my favorite of all the games and soundtracks, so this was a treat to listen to. Thanks for having me along for a part of it!!! 17.4/10 - its a mastapiece
Takes me back to the Summer of '05. My 7-year-old self was out playing with a ball when I noticed a boy from my class at school sitting on a curb playing his Gameboy Advance. Curiosity got the better of me as I approached and asked what he was playing. The warm summer's breeze rustling my short hair, I was introduced there and then to the franchise which would create countless memories and change my life forever.
Mate I’m a grown ass man almost approaching 30 and for the past month your medley has been blasting while I’m working, while I’m at the gym, while I’m driving 90mph on the freeway. I can’t tell you how much us late millennials appreciate this trip down memory lane. Ps - the way you ended it with the intro reprise was spectacular. Drop me your Venmo so I can buy you a beer. Cheers!
Couldn't agree more with you, I've been listening to this medley since it was released and man...this is something truly well done! I don't know if I appreciate it even more for being a guitarist but the work he put there was stunning and at the same time incredible. PS: I am still waiting for another medley or cover for many months now!
Hoenn had the best music in the entire series it almost makes me cry when I hear it, especially since I've played Colloseum, Emerald and Alpha Saphire so many times
In my opinion the ultimate trifecta of Pokémon games was Gens 3-5. Best music, best gameplay, best nostalgia. Simply incredible Pokémon games! My favorite was Diamond, but Emerald is definitely my second fave.
Takes me back to all those years ago where I first got in touch with Pokémon. Gen 3 was my first and I know each and every single one of the tunes in this medley by heart. My heart is happy when I listen to this. It heals my soul much like a Pokémon Center would.
I cannot tell you how many hundreds of times I have listened to this all the way through. Any time I am sad, I come to this video to cheer me up and remember the good ole days. When I need to focus at work, I listen to this video. When I am on a long car ride, I listen to this video. So happy this video made 1 million views. This is so under-viewed on so many levels! Edit: 08APR22 listening to this to calm my nerves for engagement to my future spouse. It’s helping, thanks again!
Agreed! I remember saving before the rival battle just so I could plug my earbuds in and jam out at will! It was so sad when I finally beat them and moved on.
yeah that's fucked up when you think about it. but I guess I've been out of highschool for 9 years already that's a little bit facquing crazy if you ask me.
The first 5 seconds sent chills down my spine and the rest of this video has been spent with me in borderline tears. I miss when this is what Pokémon was. Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of art
This is probably the greatest gem of a video I've ever found randomly scrolling through TH-cam. Im not usually that into fan-made medleys but this one is just amazing. By 0:40 I was thinking "wow this sounds special". By the time route 104 was playing i was almost in disbelief on how great the songs were linked together. When the rival theme started (probably my favorite battle theme in all of pokemon) i was convinced that this was the greatest music-related video i found on TH-cam, and the video was only halfway done lmao
@@44EricRH44 For the 3rd gen? They are good in general. The best part about them is the delta episode. So enjoy the new content/story line, don't expect too much of the old charm.
I see what you did there! But seriously though, i can't believe i only found this video out almost 3 years after it was released. It was all thanks to the pandemic that allowed me the free time to replay the game for a bit though. And then big thanks to google and youtube algorithm for bringing me here too, after they've found out that i was re-playing pokemon again, that is.
I love how he went so hard on the french horn just like the actual games did. He didn't have to, but he did for us. THIS is what I wanted ORAS to sound like, and it makes me cry every time I listen to this, as this is EXACTLY how I remember the original GBA games sounding, even if it's not actually how i sounded in the slightest.
@@deltacream Agreed, but admittedly most of those tracks are good as well with some few exceptions. Not as good as this medley version or original, but still good.
still probably the best Pokémon medley on all of TH-cam. Replayed the most times, DP medley being a great successor. Thank you for being a constant in my playlist!
Holy crap, man; where to even begin? I can tell you poured your soul into every note of this medley, and the resonance is felt between your heart and the heart of every Pokémon fan who listens to it. You somehow managed to create something that not only perfectly captures the spirit of the original, but draws it out, distills it, and further refines it in the fires of your passion. I live for shit like this. Thank you.
Not only is it the nostalgia but also the way this has been made. So much care and love put into details. This is by far one of the best videos I've ever seen and heard on this platform. Thank you so much for remembering us our childhood. And thank you for making one of the best medleys that ever existed. Thank you.
Dude he even put in the little jingle thing that plays at the start of the rival fight! I remember as a kid I used to hum that every time the song would play, and its not in the remakes! So when he did it in this it was almost like being greeted by and old friend again. I know that may sound a bit silly but its tiny details like that that truly make it special Edit: 6:29 for a time stamp of the little jingle im talking about
Hoenn is the region I love the most for everything included its music. You all did an amazing job and I'd love to see a part 2 of this with the tracks you didn't include here.
This video gives me goosebumps, got both Sapphire and Ruby for my birthday in 2003 and as an 8 year old i put a lot of time into them. These songs are forever burned into my heart and soul and your rendition of them is perfect. Thank you for making this
The thing about the RSE soundtrack that sets it apart from all the other pokemon soundtracks, is that it seemed like they were having so much fun. Up to this point in time -you moved to a new place, so everything was a brand new adventure -your rival was actually your friend -the champion was a non-threatening mentor -your dad was a gym leader, so it seemed like you were a part of the league community It almost seemed like the world wasn't out to get you, of course, until Maxie or Archie appeared. Even then, I'd argue they're themes are in the top 2, dare I say, it's not 2.
I think a lot of that came from the actual shift to Instrument samples/synths and not just the GB audio channels. They went all out with brass & fanfares when the Anime variations of the Gen 1 & 2 themes were fully orchestrated but focused mostly on strings and guitar. Hoenn said "we've got brass now and by god, we're gonna use it"
Yeah...Maxie and archie are definitely not threatening enough to ruin the whole...nerf warfare theme. The dad part was great though. Just wish he didn't become immediately irrelevant.
I hope this video makes you a lot of money because plenty of people would pay to enjoy a performance of this caliber. What a fantastic experience! Thank you for your dedication!!
Pokémon Ruby wasn’t just my first Pokémon game, it was THE first video game I played, at the ripe age of 4.

Hit me right in the feels man; same here GBA:SP + Sapphire

This was actually my last Pokemon game before I entered the real world, things were not good at home so this game was my escape. So many hours playing, listening to this takes me back to those days.
Now I play this video every night so my 3yr daughter go to sleep, she obviously doesn't know what it is but asks for me to put it specifically. I'm just extremely happy to see her enjoy something that brings me so many memories.

It's ok, I also cried. The nostalgia captured here is too powerful.

Congrats on making it through and thanks for sharing; glad to hear that this video helped!
Huge congrats on graduating--may your future be bright and the music be beautiful!

The warm summer's breeze rustling my short hair, I was introduced there and then to the franchise which would create countless memories and change my life forever.
What game was he playing?
I'm 21 and dumped so many hours of my childhood into Emerald. This medley never fails to get me to shed a few years.
Totally feels the same man 😄. im already 21 years old. and i almost cried when i hear this.
spot on mate !
Same lmao, 26 here, huge memory lane, insane. Loved this all, glad I found this all.
My girlfriend started Pokemon Ruby as her first Pokemon game today. The first thing she said: "Omg I know this soundtrack, it's Dr. Pez".
Hoenn had the best music in the entire series it almost makes me cry when I hear it, especially since I've played Colloseum, Emerald and Alpha Saphire so many times
Sinnoh and hoenn best music

In my opinion the ultimate trifecta of Pokémon games was Gens 3-5. Best music, best gameplay, best nostalgia. Simply incredible Pokémon games! My favorite was Diamond, but Emerald is definitely my second fave.
Man, I'm 26 and I'm crying. Such a big masterpiece😍
same i just cant even . it hurts so good
Me too man!
Man, that ever grande city hit me so hard
don't mind me, just here for my monthly re-listen.
Of course!

Man!.. THAT RIVAL BATTLE MUSIC is Just PERFECTION at it's FINEST
Agreed! I remember saving before the rival battle just so I could plug my earbuds in and jam out at will! It was so sad when I finally beat them and moved on.
yes
We played this game 17 YEARS AGO. *17 YEARS*
Michel Mélinot memories are still so clear.
I still play this game, well I play Altered Emerald but still after 17 god damn years I play this game every now and then!!!
And i finished this game 17 MINUTES AGO, *17 MINUTES.*
Holy shit no don't say that 😨
yeah that's fucked up when you think about it.
but I guess I've been out of highschool for 9 years already that's a little bit facquing crazy if you ask me.
It's complete nostalgia that gen 3 is my favorite, but dang it, the first game you play in a series really does leave an impression.
In your defense, they're wonderful games. My first was either Yellow or Silver but I don't remember enjoying one more than Ruby. MAYBE Pearl.
@@44EricRH44 Gen 3 is my favorite too. The battle frontier still holds a special place in my heart. A shame they didn't include it in the remake.
@@theeevenger4185 Did you mostly like the remakes, though? I have yet to play them ):
@@44EricRH44 For the 3rd gen? They are good in general. The best part about them is the delta episode. So enjoy the new content/story line, don't expect too much of the old charm.
@@theeevenger4185 K, hopefully I can try them out soon :3
You used TRUMPET! It's super effective!
And french horn :3
Underrated comment
Lage Legend Yes! French horn gives such an epic and delicious sound!
As Todd Howard would say. It just works
A critical hit!
I come back to this video at least once a year. Almost cry every time :')
When I'm feeling down, I just rewatch this and I'm happy again. It's super effective
Music that reminds everyone of us...
...that we're not kids anymore...
...but yeah, you may want to experience being kid again and just play, right?
yayyyyy 28yo here and so many memories of that !
Shame that they kinda subverted the trumpets in the ORAS
AGREED 💯
Thank you.
You conveyed exactly what I couldn't find the words for!!
This song truly fills you with the best kind of nostalgia. Thanks for putting how I felt into words Bryan.
👌🏼 On point bro 😭😭
Not only is it the nostalgia but also the way this has been made. So much care and love put into details. This is by far one of the best videos I've ever seen and heard on this platform.
Thank you so much for remembering us our childhood. And thank you for making one of the best medleys that ever existed.
Thank you.
Sin duda alguna este chico ha traido ese sentimiento de inicio, de el primer Pokémon, de la primera captura, del primer gimnasio.
Dude he even put in the little jingle thing that plays at the start of the rival fight! I remember as a kid I used to hum that every time the song would play, and its not in the remakes! So when he did it in this it was almost like being greeted by and old friend again. I know that may sound a bit silly but its tiny details like that that truly make it special
Edit: 6:29 for a time stamp of the little jingle im talking about
Hoenn is the region I love the most for everything included its music.

Up to this point in time
-you moved to a new place, so everything was a brand new adventure
-your rival was actually your friend
-the champion was a non-threatening mentor
-your dad was a gym leader, so it seemed like you were a part of the league community
It almost seemed like the world wasn't out to get you, of course, until Maxie or Archie appeared. Even then, I'd argue they're themes are in the top 2, dare I say, it's not 2.
My personal favorites are 3 and 8 when it comes to music
I think a lot of that came from the actual shift to Instrument samples/synths and not just the GB audio channels. They went all out with brass & fanfares when the Anime variations of the Gen 1 & 2 themes were fully orchestrated but focused mostly on strings and guitar. Hoenn said "we've got brass now and by god, we're gonna use it"
Yeah...Maxie and archie are definitely not threatening enough to ruin the whole...nerf warfare theme.
The dad part was great though. Just wish he didn't become immediately irrelevant.
Well said.
I remember my parents telling me I couldn’t play it until I could read, as they wouldn’t be there to read everything out to me. I’m 16 now and life is so much more complicated but I can always go back to this video when I need a glimpse to a simpler time. Thanks for sharing your talents, and thank you pokemon Ruby!
I had the same experience it was my first video game and pokemon game and I remember my parents saying that they would buy it for me so I could improve my reading skills. To this day still my favourite pokemon game.
When he hit that Littleroot Town, 😢😢
My favourate theme music is Little root too

“Thank you very much.”

Pokemon has been with me practically since I can remember (4-5 years old). I've been learning Japanese for several months so I can play Emerald and read the entire manga in Japanese.
