How you put this kit together is quite reminiscent of those plastic model ship kits. It's also worth noting that this MS only existed on paper and was never actually built
I've built some gundams & I've enjoyed them all. One thing I thought of though, being a graphic designer and all,, is how their form never match their function. I found that Gundams NEVER need to have humanoid form. They dont need their legs, they dont need their hands, and they certainly dont need a face. They just need to be some sort of very agile tank that can fly. After that kind of mismatch in basic form-to-function concepts, imagine my amusement when I saw THIS guy.
I respect the complexity, but I just don't like the design. Sure every good officer knows the legs are just for show, but I like my mobile suits to look more mobile. Great review, man. Keep em coming!
Legs are only for show if you're sure you won't ever come into contact with another solid surface. A mobile armor like the Neo Zeong doesn't need legs, for example. But if you ever want to land somewhere or have another combat surface for kicking, then legs are nice.
I agree with your reasons for thumbs down. Spending that much money I expect a bit more features/gimmicks and great color seperation, especially considering it's 2018. I like the design but I don't think I'll ever be able to justify going for this.
I love the little painted details you did. They really improve the overall look of the kit. I won't be getting this because of lack of posing and price. Nice review. Pretty sure as impractical as it may seem, water slides are pretty nice for big surfaces, its just a bit hard to work with em if they get too big.
REALLY REALLY looking forward for a MG Ex-s Gundam ver.2.0 or something like that. I feel like Bandai is pushing out Sentinel series, which is incredible. With Metal Robot Zeta plus c1 coming in a couple months and this MG deep striker, I am quite sure that they won't just leave it there. Gundam mk v is likely to be a 1/100RE series, Zeta plus and S gundam would appear as a MG series. If not, RG would be nice. You know.... RG Ex-s gundam. I'd totally buy it.
JamesBLonde0059 I'm aware. I stand by my statement. With over 100+ master grades under his belt, I'm surprised he would make such a statement. I mean, I only have around 40 MGs, and I don't find applying water slides that difficult enough to say it's a good thing this kit didn't come with waterslides over stickers because "....it'd be impossible."
Gonna have to disagree on the bit about waterslides not working. Nothing is preventing a builder from adding them during the build process once all painting is done, or even just in its basic limb components, stickers only for a kit this expensive is a ripoff.
Screws are a necessity.. no getting around it, its too big to have snap together parts hold together. Also if anyone wants to complain about price.... go buy a few warhammer 40k models and look at what you get for you money and you will never complain about the price of a gundam model ever again. Some of the molds games workshop are using are well over 15 years old.
Glad they actually did translate the details in the manual. Your criticism of the kit is understandable. Would it kill them to add a bit of chrome and some yellow?
Need more part separation on new parts, especially the chest. No clear part for the green lens, just big block of white. Add some extra panels n frame for it instead of charging us unused plastic from ExS.
Eh, the weapon being simple isn't surprising in the least. while it would have been nice to have some complexity on the main gun, more often than not most of the detail goes into the inner frame and the main body. which is underwhelming in a kit like this to say the least.

To make things worse, the kit is (I think) the most expensive MG that Bandai ever released with its ¥20,000 price.
To put that into perspective, for ¥20,000 you could buy things like:
- PG MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam
- PG RX-78GP01 Gundam "Zephyranthes"/Fb
- PG GAT-X105 Strike Gundam + PG FX-550 Skygrasper + AQM/E-X01 Aile Striker and have money left

- PG RX-0 Unicorn Gundam
- 3 sets of MG MSZ-010 ZZ Gundam "Ver.Ka" and have money left

Honestly, this is one of those releases that I think was a mistake on Bandai's part.
It's poor judgement.
If they really wanted to charge ¥20,000 for an MG, they could have at least made a totally new mold and instead of having to reusing parts from a very old MG.
You can tell that MG MSA-0011[Bst] Plan 303E Deep Striker is not something that Bandai thought about much and just rushed it out.
