    Dan Blocker was the heart and soul of Bonanza. When he passed on, the show ended.

    The saloon keeper was none other than Leanard Nimoy (Spock on Star Trek). He befriended the ape man (Cal Bolder) and he got on Star Trek at least one episode. Cal was in the marines in Korea and was awarded the Purple Heart, had a football scholarship to college, and later became an LAPD cop. He pulled over a producer and gave him a speeding ticket the producer was enamored with his size, (6 '4" 260 pounds ) and offered him a chance to act, Cal grabbed it and had an excellent acting career, by the way, he was quite intelligent, lol, great acting job in this episode.

      I watched this episode for the first time in 2008, after reading the novel in the 11th grade the year previous, and immediately saw the parallels between the novel and this episode.
      This episode was also trying to teach young men the nature of women like Cheri Bell, of whom the modern equivalent would be OnlyFans girls.
      A piece of television I would recommend for anyone, and my favorite episode of Bonanza ever.

    In my opinion, this episode is among the best of the Bonanza show. Not about cowboys et al, but about the fragile hearts of people. Cal Bolder was superb in his role. Given that most of Bolder's Hollywood roles were, well, problematic, I bet he appreciated this job. Writer Gene L. Coon wrote a stellar script here. DirectorJames Yarbrough superbly led a sensitive story. Rodolfo Hoyos, Hollywood unsung but always brilliant in his roles, big or small. Dan Blocker is amazing here. Leonard Nimoy: in this work, just Ok. The David Rose music score is haunting with the tragic trumpet. A great episode.

    Truly a sad episode and one I can't watch again. He wasn't a truly bad person just misunderstood and mentally handicapped who was too strong for his own good.

    • @samuelrosenbalm
      @samuelrosenbalm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That description of yours applies to Lenny in "Of Mice and Men", but not Arnie. The latter was mentally handicapped, true, but that is no excuse for being so quick to jump on people, or for murdering a vagrant and taking his money. His statement that the money "wouldn't do him no good" serves to demonstrate that he very well understood death. Yet he still murdered - at least twice. Adam and Joe were correct about him. Adam warned, "We didn't do anything to make Him that mad, but if you hadn't come along, he may have killed somebody." Lenny, on the other hand, was not quick to fly off the handle and hurt someone. He was truly gentle and never "meant no harm" or "want no trouble".. He killed in a state of confusion - Arnie killed in a state of rage. Arnie, despite his handicap and whatever endearments he may or may not have possessed, was every bit a murderer.

    Marc Durso's comment makes sense, I was just thinking about while acting one must create a scenario of drama, anger, fear, anxiety, irony, revenge, and joy, happiness, excitement, etc. This is obviously training and it would take an extraordinarily intelligent person to accomplish these fine attributes. Creating a scenario people are enticed to absorb, and become enticed by, the superb acting according to the script.

    This doesn't make sense Joe is to you young to drink not Michael Landon but Joe is only 20 here at least he has to be cause on season 4 on one ep Ben tells a girl Joe just turned 22 so that mean season 3 he was 21 season 2 20 and season 1 19. And if you have to be 21 to be in a bar Joe shouldn't be in there on season 1 and 2 drinking

      Before people knew heat kills germs, they drank way more beer than they drank water. This includes children. Beer got heated because people thought heating it was part of the process, and then they let it cool. I think germs were discovered by a Frenchman, Louis Pasteur.
