Me too, I saw the video for this, a LOOOOOONG time ago. I think on VH1 metal classics or something. All I know is after I saw this video I went out and started buying their albums. Alex Skolnick's solos back then, amazing! Best guitarist to ever play in a thrash metal band.
First time i ever heard Testament was Over The Wall on a music channel, next day i had the album bought! Testament will always be one of my favourite bands! Pity their a bit crap live, well their sound was crap when i saw them. Apart from that, they are the shit!
30 years' later, I still bloody love everything about this - the music, the energy... and I love the ropey quality of the video, it's how I remember it from back in the day.
They talk about the big 4 but don't forget bands like testament, exodus and overkill ! This band got me into thrash and at 44 it's still my favorite genres
The big 4 were just the biggest thrash bands of the 80s not necessarily the best just the most well known, there were plenty of other bands much better than the big 4 imo but you had to search hard to find them, Coroner is 1 that comes to mind, possessed is another and of course Testament ,exodus and overkill.
I played this over and over again when it came out in 88,I was 15 back then and this album was one of many that have changed my life. Still love it..always will!
I remember watching Headbanger's Ball all the way through, just to catch the one or two thrash videos, but videos like this made the wait worth while. \m/ \m/
Q deMayo FUCK YES! It was unfortunately the era of hairbands that MTV passed as “heavy metal” and if you were lucky you’d see something good and this was one of those things. I still remember hearing this for the first time and bought the cassette like the next day. Their cover of Aerosmith’s “Nobody’s Fault” is amazing too. The late 80’s was definitely the golden age of thrash. Death Angel’s “I’m Bored” was another one that I remember sticking out among the deluge of shit they played.
When you see them live, and that very quiet, subtle guitar begins...you just get amped up (somehow) even more. I remember seeing them about 6-7 years ago and leaving the pit to get a beer, drinking about half of it, and then hearing those three slow notes. That's all I needed. I chugged what was left, tossed the cup and made a beeline back into the pit. I got there right when the thunder dropped and all hell broke loose. Bodies got launched into the air. Great times.
@@tararobinson5977 haaa.. that was a really weak attempt at trolling.. lesson 1 make sure and spell your words correctly in your comment especially if you call the other person an idiot sharing is caring love you
Alex Skolnick was unique amongst Thrash metal guitar players in that he actually had a pretty good finger vibrato technique. Oh and he could play well without distortion, his jazz stuff is great to listen to.
BEST THRASH metal band EVER. LOVE me some TESTAMENT. Great video. Great song. Great album. This song kicks ass. Alex skolnick is a guitar God 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
If I was given the opportunity to have a single lesson by any guitarist (dead or alive, hey this is hypothetical) it would definitely be with Alex Skolnick. By the way, get a copy of his book From Geek to Guitar Hero. It is a fantastic read. His soloing on this song is just like pretty much every other solo he has recorded, as close to perfect as I've ever heard. He never leaves in doubt who wrote/recorded that music. His playing is instantly recognizable. From Testament to The Alex Skolnick Trio, he has always been able to catch the essence of what it is like to be a true prodigy. I wish Jason Becker was still playing guitar; ALS took his music from us way to early in his life. He is another guitar player I could say was able to reach near perfection with everything he wrote/recorded. Make it a point to listen to Jason's song Perpetual Burn. Incredible that he wrote and recorded this song when he was around 17 years old. Even Jeff Loomis said it took him around a month to learn it so he could make a video of himself playing it, easy to find on TH-cam. Afterwards he commented that his playing still did not do Jason's original version justice. Oh, Jason recorded it on his first take. Of course he then went back and did overdubs and such but the main song was recorded the first time the recorder was turned on...it is simply out of this world to imagine that sort of talent. Even though Jason is no longer playing guitar he is still with us today. Doctors said he would never live this long. Through pure determination and excellent care he still survives today. Way to go Jason! There is a video documentary of Jason Becker's life titled Not Dead Yet. Watch it and you too will become an instant fan.
I remember getting psyched every time this video was played on Mtv, back when you had to wait for them to play a song to hear it. I saw Testament live 5 times in the early nineties. I got all of their autographs on the sleeve of the cassette for “The New Order”. I still love this band. Thrash was real and honest. I’m glad to have lived through the period when all of it was new and exciting.
This is THE greatest thrash metal production on Earth. Honestly, blow me: with your dissent.... The riff. The production... The mix... It's perfect. Blow me if you disagree....
I saw this tour in 1988 Philadelphia Empire Club just as the video came out on MTV. It was a small club. Shortly after they started playing large venues.
Seeing his video for the first time back in the 80's was a life changing moment for me. Back before I knew what I even liked. This will always be the greatest metal song of all time in my eyes.
why they was never classed the same as Slayer/Anthrax Megadeth I will never know, EPIC band, I remember buy PWYP and the Live at Eindhoven and New Order as a kid. Blown away.
+SuperWeaves It takes balls to make a comment like that, but I agree 100%. This band has remained "metal" throughout their career. To this day they bring it heavier than most of the other so-called metal bands who are still recording and touring.
I usually dont like fast music like metallica megadeath anthrax etc. My friend first introduced me to this song and boy oh boy, I love it! A TRIAL BY FIRE!!!! 👍
That could give them alot more recognition as a band . Not to mention gain tons of new fans and money! They deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence with Metallica without any doubt. I still feel they were robbed!
