Ive Been a class 1 driver myself & like many come across some tricky situations but nothing quite like this, most of you who've commented here have probably never driven a class 1 vehicle or travelled much further then your own town, as i say its very easy for people to make nasty comments towards the driver, i say lets take all the trucks off the roads for a few months till the shelves run dry in the shops & see how long it is till the general public plead with lorry drivers to go back to work.
cheers mate, i`ve just looked at the video again and you know your stuff. the truck was empty no question because the 3rd axle on the unit was in the lifted poisition. i.e. running empty. thanks
As a driver myself and grew up in this area.. There are signs stating no trucks but the driver ignored and proceed on... Those signs have been there for 35 plus years
Easy done, had to reverse out of some nasty little places myself. Put 44 tonne freight on roads meant for a horse and cart and sooner or later this is where you end up. Fair play to those lads on the crane 👍
I feel fortunate to be an American truck driver, where we have lots of wide open spaces. But in Chicago, where I mostly drive, I've seen plenty of trucks get messed up by mis-marked low bridges.
Gotta love how all the truck drivers have to start commenting saying this and that, but most of all telling everyone they drive trucks as professionals, BRAGGERS
I'm with MaryGrace on this,it is so easy to turn down a road and suddenly find that after a mile or so it gets all too narrow or theres a sharp bend thats got hedgerows or banks either side. The driver may have not been a local and may have just been taking the shortest and obvious route on the map.
Even if the trailer were empty, (which it probably was) being a freezer trailer it would still weigh nearly 15 metric tonnes. I used to see this one regularly passing through Shepton Mallet. The "eat more chips" logo always made me laugh!
I do feel sorry for the driver we all mess up occasionaly, and cornwall does not have truck friendly roads, our company does a lot of farm deliveries and i have had cases of farmers telling me 'its ok getting to my farm, we get trucks in here all the time, ignore the unsuitable for long vehicle signs' just so they can get their goods. I have nearly got stuck when they have done this, so now i use google street view to walk the route first and google maps satalite imagary maps.
I`m a trucker so i have to say we have all got stuck. er but this was unlucky. can any crane drivers tell me if that size crane could have lifted the trailor loaded? that would have been 36 ish tonne or for a gray & adams fridge trailor 10.5 tonne empty.
Can't help feeling sorry for the driver who probably got a painful ear-boxing for that little incident. And I'd say it took a good few hours of reversing and maneouvering before they had to admit defeat and get the crane in. Wonder was he following directions from his satnav to end up there.
Look everyone we all mess up some times, and its the consequences that are important no one hurt I expect, non of us know how it happened, so just leave it at that...
I drove Class 1"s for 20 years, had to Reverse half a mile in Germany due to a low Bridge. But what i did learn was that when i started to feel the situation wasn"t right in tight lanes, i used to stop and WALK forward to check it out. Basically i would never go so far down a lane that i couldn"t reverse out off, and on Animal Feed delivering to Farms, we used to get some tight ol deliveries.
Following tom tom whilst driving my Sprinter motorhome has got me in a load of VERY peculiar places on an A roads as well, the GPS are great for getting lost in ‘shortcuts’ they thought up for bicycles and pedestrians. Good thing about sprinters is that they are narrower than the FIAT base models.
@marek1300 its rich that someone from Poland should be saying, stupid English Drivers, you should take a look at the amount of Polish drivers we have here in the UK causing accidents that appear in our local papers every week, and whats really funny is that most of our transport companies are only paying the Polish drivers less than half of what the British drive gets, now who's stupid!!

No idea why the6 would even be on that route . P45 time.

I've done the same , always said that Jon , all the old towns built when the biggest vehicle was a horse and cart

Well done to everyone involved in the lift!
look in the sky... it's a bird... no it's a plane... no it's a SEMI-TRAILER! ha!
Gotta love how all the truck drivers have to start commenting saying this and that, but most of all telling everyone they drive trucks as professionals, BRAGGERS
How did the truck get there in the first place? Must have been coming down that hill and could not make the turn and could not back up either.

100% driver fault. passed two signs saying NO TRUCKS
Yeah it was. I can remember when this happened. I know the road, im real supprised he got as far as he did.

Been in some very tight spaces with my low loader, but never quite that tight.

please show the driver a picture.........i dont quite think he understands the meaning of air suspended!
Poor guy..feel sorry for him. I managed to escape a situation like this during my driving career.
Look everyone we all mess up some times, and its the consequences that are important no one hurt I expect, non of us know how it happened, so just leave it at that...
How he got there? Drunken?

Good job it was empty .you need a big crane to pick up 35 tons ..
The lorry ate too many chips to get around that corner. lol
You are going to have to eat a whole lot more chips to pay for that! Nothing like needing a crane rescue to put a dent in the ol' profit margin.

My Dad has driven that lorry. Ahahaha, it wasn't him that got it stuck though! Good old Mortimers... :L
This guy did ignore at lrast 3 times a sign that he is going into a narrow street. So it is a dum driver.
