Jeremy Irons knew exactly what kind of movie he was in and what sort of performance was required. Everyone else misses the mark.

      I can answer that
Director : Jeremy your an award winning actor so my movie will HAVE to be good if your in it
Irons : only if I get to wear silly clothes with capes and over act as much as humanly possible
      Director: uuuuhhh that depends
Irons: I wanna go ha ta ta ta
Director : BUT YOUR A RESPECTED ACTOR
      Irons :ha...ta...ta...ta
Director :fine it's not like this movie was gonna be good anyway
      Irons : :3

Reminds me of how an actual Dungeons and Dragons campaign might go. Where a DM borrows, heavily, from other works, to make a cohesive, and interesting fantasy.

Come on Critic. This movie was a master piece. It had everything a good party for DnD should have.
The normal RPG player, who wants to be the underdog hero.
The nerdy RPG Player who is always going by the numbers and plays mage.
The new guy, whose getting on everybodys nerves.
The guy, who only joined the party to drink for free at a friends house.
The smirky and mysterious dude, who always tries to insert his own ideas and disrupts the DM.
The bored girlfriend who got dragged along and has to fill in for a missing player.
The guy who tries to act cool but ends up being strange and dry.
And finally the guy who has to overplay the crazy villain.
Everthing is here. From the half-assed story, over the clicheed players, to the "players are to bad, insert confiniend plot device too drag out an obviously lost game" DM actions. Its brilliant. ^^

This is brilliant if you see it as an actual group of new players playing their first round of actual d&d. Just look at it, the cheesy dialogue, the cardboard cutout characters that seem like they belong into a different movie, the over the topness of it all...It captures the essence of unskilled, unexperienced players that got to make their first own characters being railroaded like thoma the tank engine on a generic out-of-the-book-adventure, complete with badly copied riddles and traps from movies the DM has recently seen. It's spot on, and absolute gold :D

Underacting: Cringy, pointless to watch, hoping that they almost done with thier lines. (example: evry Kristen Steward roles)
Overacting: Can be Cringy or sometimes funny to watch because they look like total buffoon (example: Nicolas Cage's bee scene in the Wicked man).
In that case Jeremy irons's overeacting is way better to hear than Thora Birch's underacting. Point close

Sure, it's painful at times but still entertaining. Also, underracting can feel quite out of place and hers makes her character quite pathetic and uninspired. She's supposed to be a ruler with strong values and presence but she stumbles on her words, her inflexions are weird and all... Well, she's not Jeremy Irons entertaining but still. Resting my case!

I feel like this would be a much better movie if the people who made it actually played D&D.

    • @AlluMan96
      @AlluMan96 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Or better yet, just record a D&D game between Hollywood bigshots. Screenplay writer's the DM, Director's the co-DM and then you just gather a "cast" to play the game, maybe cutting in and out between dramatized enactments of what's going on in the game's world. With some amazing improv talent on-board, that could be something worth watching, at least for a direct-to-video project.

Oh come on NC, the Tom Baker scene was the best. The imagery: you use magic but we elves are a part of it. That scene and actor shoule have been in a better movie.

Woodrot110 Eranoth Dragon magazine certainly thought so (I agreed), as they ran several articles laying the stuff from this movie out into third edition rules.

I remember Shia LeBeouf once brought up the idea of a D&D movie where it's just a bunch of people playing the game, and when they role or do something, it switches to their characters doing it. THAT would be a cool idea.
