Privileged to have been there from over the pond. It was 1983, my first Cropredy. My friend Lee Williams and I managed to get up close for both the Richard Thompson Band gig, which headlined Friday night, and also the next evening for Fairport. We also had a fantastic time taking in the Fairport rehearsal gig a couple of days earlier at the Half Moon in Putney. For a fervent Fairport fan like me, who as an American had never really had an inkling he’d get a chance to see the band live, it was a surreal delight, a dream realized.
Hiya and this is from our cropredy festival and it's Maartin Allcock playing keys. can't wait to join R.T. In a few weeks. Cheers, peggy the bassist on this clip.
In our hour of need, may each of us find the hand of a stranger reaching out a helping hand, to save us from our worst impulses; "The Rattle Within" as RT described it in another song.
@@ripmurdock6975 - 13 rivers is stunning from beginning to end - not a bad (or even mediocre) track on the whole album - but then this is RT we're talking about!!!
I remember him doing this song during his appearance with Fairport in 1996 - he also did Gypsy Love Songs, Galway to Graceland and Nobody's Wedding. I remember wondering why they didn't do any of the old Fairport songs. This was basically the early 80s RT band though (before the accordion and brass came in).
Crazy, unpredictable guitar solo at the end there! Lots of outside notes and unusual phrases. RT really is a unique musician. This has to be around 1984 - 1986 going by the general style and... drummer's glasses!
Hand of kindness is one of my top 3 RT albums :) And the title song is enormous. Mathacks is a master of his trade, shown here. Don`t ask me why I love RT and his music.
Excellent version of the song but I don't think it's Cropredy - the whole thing has an indoor concert feel to me. It's not 'Fairport Convention' either - there's a keyboard player behind RT- so a tour band that reunited most of the Full House line-up - minus Swarb and plus the keyboard player. Who is he?
It is Cropredy - you can tell by the back drop. And yes that is Maart on keyboards. Judging by clothing and hairstyles it was the 80s ;-) I didn't attend my first Croppers until '87, but I'm thinking this is a year or two earlier...
😂 4 real. He actually looks badass now with the goatee, beret and sleeveless demin jackets. I wouldn't describe this loose green shirt look as badass but... when you can write, play and sing as well as RT, I guess you can do wtf you want!
Bourgeouis Gilles, tu connais rien!

Dave Pegg I just saw RT in Norwich tonight first time since Cropredy 26 years ago !!! Awesome night, he has still got it in spade fulls 😀
Torquay were just honoured with his presence.
Hey there Peggy, we last saw you live w/Simon, Rick and Fairport, circa 2000 or so. Love the period you were with Tull also!
THANK YOU!!
Stronger than new rope ..... this is music that is simply worth listening to. Gotta love Richard Thompson .... !!
There may be equals but if there's a better guitarist than Richard Thompson I have yet to see him/her
Habe damals das Album gekauft - dann nochamls als CD - höre ich immer noch- tolle Scheibe !

Killer song from his recent 13 Rivers album. It absolutely slams you in the face live with great drumming by Michael Jerome.

I had this concert on video many years ago - lost it in various moves. It's great to see it again :-)
thanks for posting this vintage stuff, wouldnt have chance to see it otherwise, keep it up

One of Dave Mattacks best RT moments..
DM-Drum heaven!
Best live version of this song I've seen.

Funny--that was my own conclusion just now, based on clothing and--yes--the drummer's glasses.
That's Dave Mattacks. One of the best drummers on the planet.
@@rotsa1 Absolutely set a higher standard.
One of my favorite Richard Thompson songs.

What a brilliant player!

You MUST see and hear his cover of Britney Spears' "Oops I Did It Again". It is a SCREAM!!!
Amazing!!!!
Wonderful.
sehr groovy!! schönes Teil!!
Wow Dave Mattacks gave it some there.

It is Cropredy, mate. Can't remember the year, though.
From memory, that's Maartin Allcock playing the keyboard..

Definitely Cropredy, I was there but can't remember the year... Early 80's!
1986
IT;s Cropredy I was there
I love the guy, but...man, I'm glad he eventually figured out the black quasi-uniform thing, which looks great on him. Just sayin'.
Yeah, RT's anti-fashion sense was very well-developed for a decade or two there.
