    Hey AC have you ever been so amazed by a Private's idiocy you break Drill Sergeant character

      I have an incident! One guy took up a letter to be mailed out and wrote the address across the envelope in one single line (remember this Pvt is old enough to be in the military, and atleast have a GED, right) Drill was so stunned that he quietly took the guy aside and taught him how to properly write addresses!

      @@MorbidKat THAT is what an NCO is supposed to do. My DS did something similar for some of us in basic. We had zero clue how to iron our uniforms. He pulled us aside and in sort of a fatherly way taught us all we needed to know on how to iron. He took the time to answer our questions and wasn't condescending in any sort of way. The funny part of the whole thing, those of us that were pulled aside to learn did not have a father and/or mother at home growing up. Which go's to show how important having parental figures is. From that moment on I wanted to be like DS Westdorp when I made SSG and I like to think I was.

However, jumping out of that little Cessna is nothing like jumping with combat equipment in the middle of the night out of a C-141 or C-130 at 800 feet, but I respect the fact that you had the balls to do this! @Cobra Kai I’m sure there was something in the 670-1, but none that I can recall that we’re “the official way to adorn and wear it” other than placement of the Rigger Wings and Rank. And yes, no logo/ brand on the exterior of the hat.
      Usually the chain of command dictated style (mesh or fitted) and whether you were to wear subdued/“StayBright”/ or sew on on rank and wings.
      Most of the time though it was the StayBright for rank and wings.
      Personally, I think it was just so all those in “Leg Land” thought you were an officer at first glance and would salute you. Had that happen many a times...lol.
      Ain’t nothing like being saluted by an E-6/E-7 and your just a PFC. they saw the wings and thought “Full Bird Colonel”.
      ...either that or they would ask why we were wearing that headgear in uniform. Which we promptly told them we were part of the All Army Baseball Team...lol.

    And think. I still remember my five points of performance from Airborne School in 1989 and jumping with airborne units. Those small planes are easy. Imagine on a stick on a C-130 hook to a anchor line with a row of 10 to 12 jumpers on a stick, jumping left or right door. 10 minutes. Outboard personnel Stand Up. Hook Up. Check Static Lines. Check Equipment. All Ok Jumpmaster. First Jumper stand in the door. Red to Green, GO. now its the airborne shuffle out the door, 4 second count. Look up. Check Body position, Keep a good tight body position. Keep a sharp look out on decent. Lower jumper has the right away. slip away from the wind Prepare to land execute a proper PLF. 200 feet drop equipment bag. LAND. Stow parachutes and get to the AA (Assemnbly AREA) Airborne all the way. HOOAH.

    • @MaynardCrow
      @MaynardCrow 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hooah. Seemed like we always had a full 64 troops on every C-130 jump. Sometimes 16 jumpers on each door if there was two passes, but usually all 32 guys got shuffled out the door in one pass. This was a problem on the smallest drop zone on base, which only had 30 seconds of greenlight. Did not want to be the last 2 or 3 guys out the door.

Only we didn't jump from the aircraft, but rather climbed out and held onto the wing strut with both hands with one foot on the step and the other dangling in the breeze. You then looked into the aircraft and the jumpmaster would let you know when to let go of the aircraft. 2,000 feet later, my PLF was crap and the guys on the ground wanted to check my helmet to make sure that I didn't break it. Good times. Good times.
