The pain you learn to deal with that most would cry like a baby about. I'm guessing they don't donit anymore because its "hurts too much" now that they softened basic and boot.

    • @MaynardCrow
      @MaynardCrow 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @Jonathan Spier Main cause of entanglements is improperly staggering the exit of troops between both doors and not maintaining 1 second intervals between jumpers. This usually becomes a problem on drop zones with a short window of green light when the JM tries to drop everyone on one pass. As far as getting a weak exit on a combat jump, it tends to happen more on a C-17 with that extra step to guys who got a really heavy ruck, like a mortar crew guy with the base plate or a squad gunner carrying several full ammo cans. High wind can be a factor, especially if your straps get lose on the long waddle to the bird and your ruck starts dangling too low. I had mine shift on me once on the way out the door and it swung me around. I've seen many guys get momentarily wedged in the door when jumping with the MOLLE with the side pouches attached and full. I always swore by the Alice pack. Way better to jump with.

      Its all fun and games until you get shark attacked by some dude coming at you at 200ft in the air. Happened to me, got entangled (Didn't have time to steer away with the big ass T-11) and I fell 40-50 ft (parachute collapse) literally the only thing that saved my life was I did proper PFL but my hip and back have been torn ever since. Of course the army made me jump again after I healed, but I made sure no one was around me whenever I would jump again. Overall, great experience.

    Being a paratrooper is without a doubt one of the coolest things you can do in the Army, but it can also be one of the most dangerous things you do. It’s always cool to see guys get introduced to it and appreciate how awesome it is to jump (military or civilian). Congrats to those guys experiencing it for the first time.
    However, I wasn’t too happy to see a helicopter being spun up with jumpers in the air. That guy landed not far from one with the blades spinning and that type of shit can’t happen, especially when you are using T-10 type parachutes. You have very little maneuverability in those chutes and that could have been someone killed or seriously injured if the winds had taken him towards that Huey. Other than that, it looked like great fun.

    • @OMEGAPREPARATION

      I was there myself going thru the refresher course. We were jumping SF10-A chutes which are very steerable. I saw the Huey below me spinning up once when I jumped out of the Cessna, I agree it's not a very comforting sight but with the chutes we were jumping you were able to steer away very easily.

    • @parawill7074
      @parawill7074 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lb161000 - I understand that, but things happen, especially due to human error, faulty equipment, and good old nature being a bit too windy for one's chute. Better to be overly cautious in that situation and come up with a better way to handle the chopper being spun up while jumpers are landing on the DZ just yards away.

      If you look closely on his left sleeve of his OCP Coat, you will he is wearing the US CAPSYOPS SSI w/Airborne Tab. Not sure if he served w/them in AD or that is his current ARNG unit? Some elements require airborne qualification for serving.

    • @richard8808
      @richard8808 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@christopherhazell420 Unless things have changed, although CAPOC is an airborne command, actually being airborne qualified is optional (and slots for the school are coveted). There might be a company or two that require being airborne qualified, but most don't get the chance. Generally (maybe entirely), only the active duty CA and PSYOP soldiers are required to be airborne. This was true even before the Great Schism, when CAPOC became a strictly reserve component command and the active duty side stayed under USASOC.

I remember a lot of days where the 11 bang bangs were stuck mowing grass or painting rocks on the name of area beatification when there was no training or range time planned. Those great moments like jumping out of a plane or blowing shit up with a MK-19 made it all worthwhile though.
