I was searching for a Prism component cable alternative when I came across this video. What’s bizarre to me is that you said many times throughout the video that the component cables look best to you, and that the colors pop using them. To me, the component cables in your video make the image look muted and washed out. For example, the white of the text bubbles in Paper Mario is not as vibrant or true white was the GCHD MK-II or Prism HD. That’s exactly what I see on my own screen using the cables. Surprisingly, the Prism HD looks pretty good and appears to go toe-to-toe with the GCHD MK-II. I’m considering both options as a viable replacement for the Prism component cables, but the Carby by Insurrection Industries is also pretty good from what I gather.

The component cables were also running through the RetroTink 5x which adds amazing quality to the video signal.

@@GameDadShow Mine's connected to a RT5X as well. I've been discovering through other TH-cam videos and Reddit that supposedly the RT5X over-samples the signal and tends to darken the image. I've been playing with my TV's settings to try to compensate for it. Regardless, it's definitely darker than playing GC games using my Wii with comp cables. As an experiment, I connected my GC to my Marantz AV7706 using the Retro-Bit comp cables. While the image looks like crap since the most the 7706 can only output 480i and not 480p, the brightness is on par with the Wii. There's definitely something odd with the RT5X when it comes to GC, as I don't have problems with any of my other consoles when connected to that using comp cables.

@@GameDadShow Question for you: Do you recall whether you set the RGB settings under the HDMI menu of the RT5X to Full or Limited when using the Retro-Bit Prism component cables?

The effort on this video is VERY appreciated - knowing behind the scenes side of things, I know how much time went into it. The Retrobit Prism Component cables are by far the best solution - especially when paired with the RetroTink 5X. Excellent video!

It’s possible these products are on different versions of the GC Video firmware, or have different default settings. Did you play around with/check for any of that?

Why are the HDMI solutions 16x9 stretched?
