    I recently installed Raspberry Pico into my Spice orange cube. Figured it was the safest way to backup my gameboy games

      Ooooh I haven’t heard of Raspberry Pico before! But any way to back up games is a win in my book!!

      @@fastrack2170 I don’t recall specifics it’s been a little while but if I were to do it again I would try to get that 3D printed piece that can be used to mount the computer. I have had zero issues with the unit since install! Make sure you’ve got a clean place to work and remember to clean your iron and don’t forget the flux!

      @maryk4y Where can I find the 3d printed piece? I have everything ready to go, I just haven't done it because I fixed the laser to read games and I'm scared of breaking it 😭😭😭

      My sister ended up buying me a spice orange controller on one of our trips to Tokyo. I put a PHOB in there and that was a challenge!

    I got a lot of the official stuff when it was much cheaper and there weren’t any alternatives. I got Wavebirds and the Gameboy Player in 2010, the component cable in 2012, the Hori Gameboy Player controller in 2015 and the broadband adapter in 2016.
    Now I use GCHD through HDMI on a HDTV and the component cable with a PC CRT monitor via a YPbPr to RGBHV transcoder. I use Gameboy Interface instead of the official disc and GCLoader for games.
    I’m glad there are better and cheaper options available today. It was quite the journey getting this stuff back then.

      For real! I’d love an actual set of Wavebirds or the component cable for my RetroTink 5X, but for now, we make due with what we can easily get ahold of :)
      Also GBI is SO FREAKING GOOD

    The GameCube is an interesting console because of its good selection of games and the Game Boy Player but back when it came out, it was overshadowed by the PlayStation 2 (and Windows XP if you had money for a PC).
    The main complaint of the console is the games being too expensive which is why people resort to emulation, hacking their Wii and running Nintendont (or this case, modding the GameCube). Second issue is as with any old console, fake controllers for the GameCube and Wii are very rampant on Amazon and eBay which are often inferior to the Nintendo controller, not helping is there isn't a third-party alternative although Retro Fighters has been working on the BladeGC controller. The Wavebird one in the video was surprising though.
    The reason why the component cable was expensive is because a lot didn't buy them making them rare. Back then, most people didn't have TVs that offered component and Nintendo removed it in the DOL-101 model due to lack of use which is OK on CRT TVs and even LCD EDTVs though you're limited to composite on newer HDTVs. However, a lot of newer TVs these days don't include component.
    I do have a MadCatz memory card for the GameCube which I have to admit is actually one of the useful third-party products especially when MadCatz and other third-party controllers are infamous for being unreliable compared to the first-party controllers. The no-name "gaming" keyboards, mice, and headsets (like the infamous BENGOO G9000 that Digital Cynics covered) have a similar issue to the 1990s and 2000s controllers. They're cheaper than name brands but most of the time they tend to quit working and/or break apart in a few weeks/months. Even if they do work, they tend to have issues that Razer, Logitech, Corsair, etc. don't experience at all.

    Prism cable has issues with the audio. It stops working after some time.
    I'm not a fan of removing the disc drive in favor of a SD card reader. Just use an emulator on your computer.

    • @chocobose
      @chocobose  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I learned that with the Prisim. Shelved that for now. As for roms and emulators? I actually haven’t downloaded anything yet except one game that I can’t find physically. Everything else is a disk backup from my own collection :)

    Just sold my carby v2 and bought a carby v3 today. The carby is great night and day difference in improved graphics vs scart cable. And I have 2 battlergc wireless pads that are great.

      @@chocobose yeah best bit the battlergc has rumble unlike the 2nd hand used wavebirds I put off getting wavebirds for years spending £50 each for used wavebirds with no rumble was not for me. I originally bought the carby in 2019 cos the price was reasonable vs the eon one.

      @xraymind ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chocobose Picoboot basically turn a Raspberry Pi into a modchip. You solder it to the GameCube with 5 wires. When you turn on the GameCube, it will search for SWISS on a SD card plug into either serial port 2 or one of the memory card slot using SD2SP2 or Gecko SD card adapter.

      I absolutely love this controller. The ONLY major difference between it and a Wavebird is being able to set the channel on the receiver, so I'm not sure how multiple would work at the same time. Hope you enjoy it!
