As an Australian who passes through Singapore quite often, I love a good Nasi Lemak. I was recommended Ponggol Nasi Lemak so tried both Tanjong Katong Rd and Jln Besar. I was second in line at Tanjong Katong Rd at opening time and the crunch of the chicken was spectacular. I can't remember the name but I had a good one at Old Airport Food Centre - it's near the front and takes up two "stalls". Had a brilliant one in Ipoh, Malaysia, on the corner of Jalan Lee Kwee Foh and Lebuh Cecil Rae in Taman Canning. Top notch sambal. I live in Perth, Australia and must tip my hat to Enak Kopitiam in Willeton. The food here is as good as anything I've had in either Singapore or Malaysia and their Nasi Lemak with the fragrant beef is a "knee trembler".
Off topic but have you ever considered 'best curry rice in Singapore' series? Would be pretty interesting to see what you determine as a good plate of curry rice
Think most of us watching this already know the Champion will definitely goes to a Malaysia eatery. However, I'm keen to know how close our Singapore's Nasi Lemak can get to top tier
When I was a young child, KooLooYou was a favourite dish in Dutch 'Chinese Indonesian' restaurants. The dish basically consisted of deepfried doughballs with a meat filling, drenched in a sweet-sour red sauce. I loved it! [Other popular dishes were -and still are- Babi Pangang, FooYongHai and Tjap Choi]. I was also the only person in my family to put Sambal Ulek on my dry white rice to spice it up a bit. I can still remember the sweat developing under my hairs. And now 50 years later, I've tried hundreds of sambals and have developed a real taste and preference for sambal. The sambals I like today don't resemble the one-dimensional sambals of my childhood. There is so much more to enjoy in a sambal than just its heat or its saltiness. But you know that 🤪
One of the few places where u can find good fried chicken wings after midnight. My go to is like 3 chicken wing, egg and rice. If u don't treat as a nasi lemak, easily 3 plate cai png.
I love your food review videos and look forward to new episodes every week even though I'm not likely gonna try them since I'm in Canada. 😅 But I still learn what to look for when I visit my local singaporean/malaysian restaurants.
I recommend trying Super Shiok Nasi Lemak @ Tiong Bahru Market Food Centre. Their Nasi Lemak base is Basmati rice grain, which gives a very fluffy texture to the rice while every grain is seperate, their chicken wing batter is light airy cruchy and juicy and most important, their standard is always consistent there. Oh their chilli is the Sambal Belachan type, which is the spicy kind 👍
as a fellow singaporean, i love singaporean food. but you have no idea how good village park nasi lemak in KL is. please do feature it if you are willing to travel there.
The best nasi lemak is in Holland Village cooked by Wan Wan and her youngest sister Jing Jing. But its closed down liao. They were heavily featured on Medicorp back then.
You should try nasi lemak ayam taliwang at 723 North Bridge Road. They are very unique in the sense that they have 5 different types of sambal for you to try. They also have 26 other outlets if I'm not wrong. They should have thier iftar ramadan set coming soon where they would serve 4 portions with all the differents sambals in one big platter.
wahh...if Chong Pang Nasi Lemak kana 1 plate...i cant wait for you to review her arch rival punggol nasi lemak! Do you know for the same plate of liao u had in your video, it would cost almost $20 for Punggol Nasi Lemak! lol
chong pang nasi lemak is not even nasi lemak, of course they cannot sell at that price... it's just cai fan, dude... it's not about the price, it's finding the best nasi lemak
More non-chinese Nasi Lemaks : 1) Nurul Delights at Bukit Batok 2) Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak 3) Mizzy's Corner/International Nasi Lemal at Changi Village
@@khokl9288I just forwarded this store’s location to 15 WhatsApp groups with my foodie friends. And I haven’t even tried it yet. Hope the queue gets longer
Hey Alderic,You should totally try La Pona Nasi Lemak @ Orchard Plaza level 4 !! they open specifically at night after 10pm and they have the most amazing lemak rice and a la minute fried chicken wings. Just go and order a he bao dan, chicken wing and rice. I kid you not it is bloody simple and amazing. No nasi lemak come close to this after my first time here.
Hmm.. to be fair, the chinese version was never known for its fragrant rice or rich sambal as compared to the malay version. If there is any, please share with us=)
Shooting out this comment for fun. Selarang camp has good nasi lemak (at least on the rice and chilli portion). Not sure if anyone can confirm if it is still there. But even so, I don't know how Alderic will get in. Haha
😢Last time at the Old Chong Pang market just beside Sembawang shopping center there.. That time the rice was way more fragrant compared to now.. And this is my father's friend shop.. Older version are way way better.. I think partly of the downfall of fragrant rice is them having too much of “others” ingredients It looks more like economic rice.. 😅
You tried the wrong dish alderic, their ikan bilis is so well done and crispy. I could eat it the rice with just the chicken wings and ikan bilis and it will make me very happy.
I also got food poisoning from eating Nasi Lemak during my camp back when I was in Primary Sch. Now, I abit scared to eat Nasi Lemak. I once eat Crave and had a bad stomachache the next day. As bad as stomach flu. My stomach sure is sensitive to coconut milk particularly the coconut in Nasi Lemak
OG chongpang nasi lemak would've scored a 2ish plates following Alderic's 70:30 weightage. Now really cannot compare to last time standards, especially the sambal 😢😢
It’s better than 1 plate la. Surely the good ingredients make up for the mediocre rice 😂 In any case, Amoy > Chong Pang any day. Amoy is best “Chinese” nasi lemak I’ve tried.
But truth be told, if you would rate this as a cai png instead of nasi lemak, would you rate it 3 plates? Then maybe it’s name should not Chong pang nasi lemak but Chong pang cai png

She had to ask how many spoons you want😭
She was thinking 2 or more persons were sharing this massive packet! 😅
No, it’s just one pax! :D
Village park nasi lemak in KL is legendary!
Off topic but have you ever considered 'best curry rice in Singapore' series? Would be pretty interesting to see what you determine as a good plate of curry rice

97 Nasi Lemak at Old Airport Road Hawker is also very good. The chicken (curry, rendang, merah) & curry vege are very good too. Rice is also fragrant.

Have you tried the coconut club? Superbly done chicken and sambal
Selarang Army Camp has the best nasi lemak. The fried chicken is... chef's kiss! Maybe can ask any of your NSmen from Selarang Camp to buy for you.
Are the food prices in Singapore chepear than in Malaysia? SGD 13 for that much food seems quite cheap. Curious Malaysian here ..
Yi Liu Xiang Nasi Lemak. It's simple, but so delicious. They start in the wee hours of the morning and sell out by 10am
You should try nasi uduk which is the indonasian version of nasi lemak

Just had a Nasi Lemak here in Perth today. If that was 1 star mines would be negative 3 stars 😂
Nasi Lemak only hits when the rice and chilli are on point, so I think it being 1 plates was already generous LOL
yay monday routine!
I agree with the rating.
You tried the wrong dish alderic, their ikan bilis is so well done and crispy. I could eat it the rice with just the chicken wings and ikan bilis and it will make me very happy.

The best nasi lemak is in orchard plaza after 11pm. 😁😁
@alderic are you going to try coconut club nasi lemak anot? 😢
i got food poisoning from chong pang nasi lemak

I feel Chong pang nasi lemak very overrated. Not worth queuing up for. It’s not bad but nothing outstanding
Not expensive, sotong, fish, pork, you eat cai Ben also same price
Chong pang nasi lemak shouldn't be here, u got it right at 0:58. It is as "nasi lemak" as carrot cake is "chai tow kuay". 😂
Haiyaaaa no no no this not call Nasi Lemak 😅 this call Nasi Campur aiyaaaaaa 😮
Cute pfp
It’s better than 1 plate la. Surely the good ingredients make up for the mediocre rice 😂
In any case, Amoy > Chong Pang any day. Amoy is best “Chinese” nasi lemak I’ve tried.
i think 1 plate is too much... not even nasi lemak anymore... really bad nasi lemak, should change name to economic rice...
Not a connesieur but Coconut club, and Uptown Nasi Lemak on Telok Ayer
How is this nasi lemak. All I see is economy rice
But truth be told, if you would rate this as a cai png instead of nasi lemak, would you rate it 3 plates? Then maybe it’s name should not Chong pang nasi lemak but Chong pang cai png
ooo very possibly.
dont even understand why chongpang nasi lemak got ppl eat... it does not even taste like a nasi lemak, just cai fan...
cai fan cannot eat also meh
Definitely not "the best" but how about also checking out Lawa Bintang in Tampines for their famous *cough* gimmicky *cough* lobster nasi lemak?
