Last time Malaysia made an appearance at the Asian Cup is way back in 1980.Since then, they were never seen at this competition. They did returned in 2007 but only because they were the host nation. And honestly, our result that time is not good. Lost all three games with no points. Everyone laughed at us and theres nothing wrong with that. We were going nowhere. We switched coaches but nothing seems to work over the years. The most infamous embarrassment is of course losing 10-0 to UAE. That was the darkest day of our team. Malaysian in the past such as 70s 80s were known as one of the best Asian team that competed with multiple powerhouses. You may have heard about a guy named Mokhtar Dahari aka SuperMok. He was so good that he was even offered a chance to play for Real Madrid but he turned it down to continue playing for us. That showed everyone how good we are. However, those days are over and the bad performance over the years made us look like laughing stocks..... ..... until 2021 when we got a new coach. His name is Kim Pan Gon, that was the man that took Malaysia into the contention for the Asian Cup qualification. At the same time, our world ranking went up to 130th. We might have lost to Bahrain in the group but we did won the remaining two matches and gained the precious slot to go to this Asian competition. Honestly, no one expect Malaysia to go further into the game. We lost 4-0 to Jordan in the first match but not because we are weak, but because the coach chose the wrong formation and strategy that exposes our weakness. The next game against Bahrain, we learned from the mistake and managed to hold on without conceding until the last minute which wasnt our fault. At this point, we are out from the group stage but theres one more game which is of course, against Korea. This match is where we proved that Malaysia is not a team to mess with. Despite Korea scoring the first goal, Malaysia did not give up and managed to score two goals to be in the lead for the first time in this competition. After learning the lessons from the two previous games, we stepped up our game and manage to perform important pressing and improve our defense to the maximum. There were so many chances from Korea but they were denied by Malaysian players. Korea turned things around later on with another two goals. It was all over until the last minute where Morales scored the third goal and helped us draw the game. Sure, one point may not be important for anyone but for us, the one point is precious. We showed that we can take on some stronger nations. You all can laugh at us but we are still currently improving to be better and you will see the result in the future. We will be back in 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia and we will be better. TRUST THE PROCESS.
