Your style of reviewing is so good. You impart a sense of what you are experiencing plus you include other details and aspects of the restaurant. Other reviewers are rather formulaic but you have the ability to bring us all into the experience. I'm so glad I subscribed to your channel!
Thank you! And thank you so much for the really kind words! Yeah, the food is the most important part of a restaurant, but there's a lot more to dining out than just the food and I really want to highlight it all the best I can.
Honesty is so rare on TH-cam. You get: 1. The people who don't know what they are talking about. 2. The people who pretend everything is amazing (life ain't like that). 3. The people who nitpick to find everything negative possible. Experiences are a mix of positive and negative. Being honest about that is what people want to watch.
Okay, I am now "hooked" on your commentary & review. You are the "real deal", and are sincerely engaging & personable! Just recently became a subscriber, and I am so glad I did! Thank you for sharing this post. Peter, out!
I've been watching many of your videos to plan a "restaurant tour" sort of thing with a friend. Your reviews are very enjoyable and have helped a lot with my choices! Thank you
James, you are in class all by yourself. You have brought a new excitement to NYC dining. Not since the days of Ruth Reichl from the New York Times have I anticipated a review. Keep up the good work.
How immersive this review of Don Angie was - just like your other reviews, and it made me long for this type of open-ended cuisine that somehow blend so many seemingly disparate elements into cohesive dishes. I feel like what makes your channel most inviting is the synthesis of amazing photography with your delightful, insightful narrative. Just "wow."
Another entertaining and revealing episode, James. I like the combination of a midwestern everyman being himself and visiting posh NY restaurants to see if they live up to the reputation. You can tell a good experience when it just makes you smile. That happened every course at Don Angie!
No one is perfect, and I'm never influenced by the entirety of an individual, but rather the parts of them that inspire me the most. Regarding Bourdain, his passion for travel and food is what I have admired about him.
Anthony Bourdain was nothing more than a drug addict that never got the proper help he needed. In the end it may not of been the drugs that killed him , but the the closely associated demons that continued to haunt him such as suicide. He was a man that I didn’t admire or was left impressed with, especially his liberal , leftist political philosophy. That political agenda is on full display in all the major American cities and is nothing but an abject failure. It’s no coincidence that Bourdain’s lifestyle and personal life ended in upmost failure including death. It’s exactly what is happening to NYC and all the major American cities. The cities are dying a slow , painful, death because of wacky, leftist , liberal , insane ideas. It will be the conservative, law abiding adults in the room that will have to save these cities. I prefer to let Bourdain rest in peace and not anoint him to some type of saint hood. I was never impressed by the man.
I agree on the refreshing uniqueness of James’ reviews in an ocean of food review videos that all use the same tired and cliche style (ie, over-sell the enthusiasm with frenetic pacing). James is a true culinary adventure storyteller, with genuine and thoughtful commentary from Act 1 through 3. Superb production value as well, not just the visuals but his background music selections set the perfect backdrop - soothing and sophisticated. Exemplifying what a fine dining experience should be, even if the review is not that of an upscale restaurant, like this spot. Kudos, James. Big fan.
Thank you so much! Reading such nice comments like yours really heighten my enthusiasm to make the best videos possible. I really appreciate the support!

Excellent review James. I have not had the pleasure of dining at Don Angie, but hope to do so after seeing your review. Years ago I live on Charles Street between W4th and Hudson and would frequent another place nearby called Piccolo Angolo on Jane and Hudson. Very fond memories. Hey James! This is a bucket list for me. Could you share your experience waiting on the line and how long you waited? I've been to Bad Roman which is the sister restaurant and it was excellent!
I got there 12 minutes before it opened and I probably should've gotten there earlier since I lucked out on getting the last spot at the bar. Once the restaurant opened, it was probably only a few minutes until I was seated. Yeah, I really want to try Bad Roman as well.
@@Jamesnu tysm for your response! That's not too bad. Going to give this a try. Bad Roman shouldn't be too hard to get! Weekdays like a Monday seems to be easy to get if you don't mind having a late dinner.
The sweet potatoes did look great! Solo diners are better catered for now than ever, so it's a disappointment when one holds out like this - for visitors to NYC like me, it just gets scratched off the list because there's too much risk of not getting a spot at the bar. I dropped Café China for that reason on my last visit in 2017, though I was happy with the alternatives I picked.
Indeed, those potatoes were amazing! Yeah, I know what you mean regarding single diners. I definitely see a lot more people going out solo these days, but it's frustrating when you can't get a reservation and have to leave it partially to chance, especially if you're just visiting a city.
Good luck I'm nashville this weekend and I'll update you if you are available to meet up Tues or Wednesday and get a quick picture with you. Big fans, and newly wed, Mike and Janet
Your opinions on the seafood restaurant in Greenpoint Brooklyn ? It’s called Greenpoint Fish and Lobster co. On the same street is the Amber steakhouse . Both are on Nassau Av in Greenpoint. I currently live in San Jose California. Born and raised on Manhattan Av next to the 3 decker restaurant . I will be visiting my hometown in May of 2024 . These two places are on my list to visit
I'm afraid that I haven't been to either of them, but I am planning on visiting Amber Steak House in the future and I'll definitely make a video of that experience, so stayed tuned. From what I hear, it seems like it's a great steakhouse.
Kinda sucks how everyone shits on the Hudson . Could you imagine how cool it would be if it was clean and swimmable? I’d be proud as hell NYer if that were the case . Anyways random thought
@@Jamesnu okay, that makes sense. I worked 3 months as a waiter once. Many times got 15% and more, and sometimes got good tips even after I or the cook screwed up something. I never understood that, or the diners who left a pittance after getting great service. I was always content to get at least 10%. Anything over that was a bonus.

Love the Orient bambino!
Thank you! I really like that watch!
Great photo with Paris Hilton😆😎
Thank you! Yeah, I was pretty nervous meeting her. It's not everyday that I get to meet my celebrity crush.
@@Jamesnu One Christmas Eve, I ate at the next table over from her at Spago - Four Seasons Maui. We didn't try to meet her but she seemed nice.
@@mauicountygis5450 I'm envious!
Good luck I'm nashville this weekend and I'll update you if you are available to meet up Tues or Wednesday and get a quick picture with you. Big fans, and newly wed, Mike and Janet
Thank you! Let me know.
@Jamesnu I meant good like "in" Nashville, not "I'm". Lol
@@thecrimedog8424 No worries. I figured that was what you meant.
Nice review. But Japanese sweet potatoes as a side dish in a Starred Italian resto? Maybe I'm gettin' old.
Thank you! The potatoes tasted good and that's what mattered the most to me.
Great choice of dishes! There's too much media focus on the lasagna. Obviously they have a great menu all around.
Thank you! I know what you mean. The lasagna looks amazing, but the restaurant has a great looking menu with good variety.
I love pasta i gotta check this one out
It's definitely worth checking out!
Wish you reviewed the veal dish
Maybe next time.
@@Jamesnuthank you . The seafood restaurant is a block away
@@johnchojnowski3951 I'll have to check that out sometime too.
Most Michelin star restaurants aren't any better than a bistro or a mom and pop place on any corner in Italy. That's where real food is made
Those restaurants definitely serve great food, but there's a reason why restaurants earn Michelin stars in New York and Italy.
5pm! It’s like catching the early bird special. Do you have low-salt options? I am fed-to-the-teeth with the decaying pretentiousness of NYC!
The meat portion is very small imo though for a main even.
Indeed! It's not very big, but most people get multiple courses like I did.
excellent review reasonable price tag imo
Thank you! Yeah, the prices were very reasonable especially compared to NYC's other top Italian restaurants.
I wish you were here in Florida I miss real Italian food 😊😊😊😊😮😮😮
That was definitely a great Italian restaurant.
love that watch. how are they ? and love your vlogs.
Thank you! Yeah, I'm a big watch collector. I'm always wearing one.
@@Jamesnu i used to wear watch all the time, slowly getting back to it. but I do love that one. actually ordered one.
hey another great video. by any chance do you review asian restaurants?
Thank you! Yeah, I've made some videos in the past and will make some more in the future with various Asian cuisines.
@@Jamesnu"Hakka Cuisine" in Chinatown was recently raved by Pete Wells in NYT.
@@papagen00 Yeah, I've heard about that one. It's a spot that I'll definitely have to check out in the future.
Besides marathons: How to remain a skinny legend while checking out hefty restaurants all the time.?
I think I lucked out with some good genes.
ohh man thats amazing@@Jamesnu
@@Jamesnu Lucky You!
You should eat at Gabriel Kreuther!
That's definitely a restaurant that I want to eat at someday.
Very interesting menu.
Indeed! There really isn't any restaurant quite like Don Angie!
Kinda sucks how everyone shits on the Hudson . Could you imagine how cool it would be if it was clean and swimmable? I’d be proud as hell NYer if that were the case . Anyways random thought
I know what you mean.
W video as always 🎉
Thank you so much!
24% tip? To each is own, but it's more than I would have left
While it is above the standard 20 percent, since I did get that free dessert, I didn't mind paying a little extra.
I need those potatoes 😋😋
They were so good!
Love tiramisu
Me too! And Don Angie offers a good one!
Amazing
It's an amazing restaurant for sure!
Che bellissimi paese amazing❤
Absolutely!
