    Thank You , Happy Mommy’s day to ya’s. IDEA ,, My husband said why not a floating dock in sections for off loading on loading your new big water craft? He said they used floating docks back in his hay days to even off load as big as a Jeep . Or just to walk to shore . He said made out of giant truck inter-tubes styrofoam & shipping pallets ❤

    To stop deer from jumping your fence. Run rope up high either about 3 feet inside or outside of the fence. Deer have trouble negotiating three dimensional things. This will stop them from jumping the fence. God bless

    That is sooo crazy to hear that you guys are not looking forward to 60 - 70 degree weather... I grew up and still live in Missouri (suburbs outside St. Louis and my folks have property In Santa Fe MO off of Mark Twain Lake near the IA/IL border for 30 years now) and if we get 60 - 70 degree weather its a blessing prior to the summer months. July and August hit 100+ with humidity 20% higher... You literally walk outside and within 5 minutes out in the sun or shade you have a sweat soaked t shirt and feel like you have been in a sauna for half an hour...

    Poor Rocky can not catch a break. Tell momma to get her broom out and he will learn to no mess with her in a short time. Said it before and say it again... Bear and Deer eat garden means they go in the freezer! Nice job done on the beds. Tip for ya on using the buckets is to raise them off the ground a tad. This allows air flow and keeps the bottom from getting to wet by sitting on the ground. Maters can stand the low 40 but will stunt them if that temps holds for to many nights. Don't put peppers out until the lows are 50 or more. Just trying to help but then again what the heck do I know? Stay safe my friends!

    You could try turning the gardens outside the fence herb gardens. Deer usually won't eat herbs like chives, lavender, oregano, thyme, rosemary, mint, etc. Basically anything that is aromatic is usually safe. Wishing you the very best.

    Good to see you two getting back to it! I meant to mention it last year but forgot--the gardening gurus (and us novices 🙃) here in Sitka use floating row cover more so than plastic for our raised beds; it allows rain through it and good ventilation. I figured I'd mention it as an option for your cole crops in order to take some of the pressure off your water supply since they don't need a lot of heat. We also leave the seaweed on the beds during the growing season so that the little wormies have food and make lots of worm poop to amend our soil. Hope your season is bountiful!

    Happy Mothers Day Diane, you have many youngsters running around there that love you! It's always great to see the garden duty, that means ya'll will be getting some sunshine and warmer weather hopefully soon. The electric fence charger is a great idea, to be made better with an on/off switch. An inline breaker toggle would work, if you didn't want to get your exercise by bending over to disconnect the battery..lol 😂😅 Love ya'll ❤

    There is another method of growing tomatoes in a bucket. The method is called, Wicking Tub or Bucket. If you do search on TH-cam, there is an elderly gentleman in Arkansas or Oklahoma that does this in buckets, tubs, 55 gallon blue barrels. He also has a TH-cam channel, Gardening with Leon. Other TH-camrs copied and posted using his techniques.

    Every time I see or hear Rocky in your videos I am reminded of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. “Janet. Doctor Scott. Janet. Brad. Rocky.” “BULLWINKLE!” lol
    I thought the laws mandated the whale watching boats to keep a 500 foot distance and not to position their boats in the Orca’s line of travel? The Orcas shouldn’t have felt bothered were those boats following the laws….. (EDIT: I checked NOAA’s website, 100 yards, I was close. If you see the boats getting too close, you might want to call NOAA, as you probably know, NOAA likes seizing boats to preclude repeat offenses. It’s an effective measure.)
    Batteries, even lithium, of normal size (AAA through 6V) can be carried in carry on on planes as long as in original packaging or special holders to keep them separate from each other and not heating up/exploding…. You need to arrange for friends traveling to put a couple in their carry on backpack, which is how I bring mine up…. (Fingers crossed I’ll be up there July through September)
    Your wife needs to establish herself above Rocky in the pecking order, a good thump to his melon each time he offends should do it.
    This fat lazy guy is half crippled and does not like to bend over to connect/disconnect anything….
    I thought you guys were gonna put water barrels painted black in your greenhouse this year? You’d be able to plant tomatoes in there already if you had….
    #NOAA

    • @AnAlaskaHomestead
      @AnAlaskaHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would work if I wanted to fly to Seattle, buy a battery and then fly back. 😥
      She definitely needs to be on top of the pecking order. Sometimes that’s easier said than done. Most people don’t like confrontation even with roosters and then there’s those who don’t care. I think we would be in that category 😂

    • @Rick_Sanchez_C137_
      @Rick_Sanchez_C137_ ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AnAlaskaHomestead if I remember correctly, in the book Cold Mountain, one of the female characters is afraid of the roosters and is hiding in a bush when a native girl needing a job walks up the driveway. She yells to the native girl to hide cause the rooster is on a rampage, the native girl walks over and picks the rooster up under her arm and twists his neck. Both when reading the book then later watching the movie I laughed at that, I know so many “city people” afraid of roosters……
      You don’t have to fly to Seattle, you need to plan ahead so that any time a relative flies south you have an order with them for the batteries you’ll need in the coming year. Your mother in law was just down south for medical IIRC, your son is there every other year, and on those rare occasions you fly down for vacation or whatever, you need to pick up what you’ll need until the next vacation…. Your problem is that you were combat arms and everything was supplied for you by the logistics people; having worked on both sides I see it a bit differently. You need to remember that logistics won’t happen for you in Alaska unless you plan for it, and while sometimes you learn to live without and it ends up saving money, I’m betting you can think of several times since getting up their after retiring where you paid out the nose to get something you could have had cheaper had you planned it. Each time I deployed (combat arms or logistics), I asked myself what I might need for the duration that if I get sent out to a C.O.P. or a small F.O.B. without PX facilities I won’t be able to resupply while there. Lithium Batteries for my flashlights, NVGs, Garmin, etc. were always on that list. Usually guys count on mail and Amazon, but by the time of my first deployment in 09 I had known too many people who had been on small C.O.P.s that got mail only once or twice their whole time over there (including one guy that when he got back to Bagram on the way home his Unit gave him all his mail, about a dozen mail bags full of boxes and letters from his family, because they were never able to get it to him)….. I think with modern mail being able to get you almost everything else, just not batteries, ammo, and cans under pressure (construction foam is another wonderful item that needs special plans to get it up there) you aren’t forced to rethink the logistics issue for everything else so you aren’t thinking about planning logistics needs a year or two out which you only need to do for the few items that can’t fly.
      I know I’m writing this wrong and it sounds like I’m a know it all, but that’s because I didn’t sleep well last night and my morning cappuccino hasn’t kicked in yet so my ability to use tact hasn’t turned on….. so, I’m sorry for that, I’m not intending to talk down to you and as I reread this it reads like I am; trust me that is not my intention, I learn a lot from your channel that I plan on using on my properties (and some things I planned on doing but learn watching you that they won’t be worth the effort). Just trying to help on one of the few things you may be able to tweak for better results.

      You can fish off the beach. The fish we focus is salmon, halibut, rock fish. We go for cod every now and then.
