This video just saved me months of headaches. I would take it in there would say the drains were plugged and they would clean them. It would not fix it. Took me about 30 minutes to correct this mechanical flaw. Thank you
This fixed my 2013 Acura MDX. I used 1/4 inch polyethylene tubing, sprayed some WD40 into the original tube and it slid right in. Ran about 3 feet of it. Fixed! I had a real struggle with the air bag area and have up on pulling the liner fully down. Was able to access it without doing that part. Thank you!
Thanks for the insight. Found that the two small little drain holes on each side was clogged and water was not draining. Used a flexisnake drain weasel with the tip cut off, which was long, thin and flexible enough to insert into the drainholes and unclog whatever junk was in those drainholes. This fixed it for me. Thank you for doing this video.
Awesome video. My car had exactly the same kinking induced water blockage, I was able to tackle the repair and resolve the blockage thanks to this video.
Wow it worked!! Passenger side issue on my 2012 MDX as well just started a few days ago or at least I think so as we had rain and I noticed the water. I bought some 3/8" OD flex plastic line and put a bit of dishwashing liquid for lube to work it down the rubber tube past the kink. The kink in the line was in exactly the same spot as in this video!! Tested it and it is working fine now. Took me about an hour or so from start to finish ( and that included the run to the hardware store to get the tubing) with a screwdriver!! Used some household cleaner to get rid of the water stain on the headliner. Thanks for the video!!
Update: I decided to trace the hose and found additional rat destruction near the connector in the wheel well so, complete replacement of the tube is in order. I ordered part # 70050-STX-A00 (rt side) and 70055-STX-A00 (lt side). Should be in tomorrow. In the mean time, I used a small piece of cable as a wire and believe it should help pull the new tube into place. Now, WHAT could possible go wrong? :)
Thanks for this video! This was exactly my problem. I also used @jeffrobertson606 's idea to use PEX as a stent. I was worried the softer plastic tubing would pinch too. Hardest part is getting the center roof console back in place.
Update: Pulled pillar "A" cover.. easy! Near the top of the cover there is a plastic label marked "Side Cushion Airbag". It has four tabs (2 on each side), i slid a small screw driver and popped off one side and then slid the cover right off. Under the cover is a 10mm bolt that I removed and then gently removed the low half (held on by two clips).
Thank you very much for your video, KY. It might as well be inspiration for me to solve the problem I have on my 09 MDX. Unfortunately, I have noticed water intrusion on the driver side (left, i.e.) just above the plastic trim (that you didn't want to remove cos it is related to air bag) between the wind shield and the door. Does the sunroof have drains at both the left and right front corners? Just want to make sure before trying to tackle it according to your demonstration. Much obliged!
I noticed water in the front passenger floor mat and in the tool box in the trunk of my MDX 2015. So sad that it happened. I can't rip open all the channels you showed to repair it but can't ignore it either.
Ironically, I was just looking at my Honda sunroof two days ago, because the rubber seal around the edge is kinked, and I wanted to know how water leaking in is able to escape. Its good to see it all taken apart in case I need to do the same job. By the way, I had to fix a similar problem before, and I was able to use a piece of Ø10mm copper petrol pipe as the spine of the flexible pipe. It is really good because you can form any contour you wish. Another great product is adhesive lined heat shrink, such as 3M MDT-A 12/3 This stuff is incredible. If you use it on a PVC sleeve, it almost amalgamates into one piece of tube. It will seal for sure. I actually thought you were going to say when you tried to blow the dirt through at 20 or 30 psi, that you blew the hose off from where it clipped onto the roof :-) I'm surprised you just didn't steal a stent from work and do it through the groin with a catheder.
UGH!!! about sums up my issue. RATS!!!!! yes, you heard me correctly. Ok, maybe it was just one RAT but, rat non-the-less. As I was pulling the headliner a bunch of black rubber pellets started raining down. Turns out that a rat has gnawed away at BOTH drain tubes. Definitely need to pull the "A" pillar cover to see if I can splice in a new section or if i'll have to fish the entire piece. I did find your video most helpful. Moteshakeram.
The A pillar trim has a bolt under the Airbag tab but like you said it does not need to come off to remove the headliner unless you suspect water intrusion into the "A" pillar air bag area.
Hayward's Automotive Thank you for sharing my friend. I didn't know there is bolt under airbag tab. This looks like common problem on this design. I hope this repair will last. Cheers
I’ve been trying to fix my leak for 2 years, I think I tried to find this issue with your same method but couldn't find anything first time around. I'm going to try to stick the tube down there this time and see what happens. Heard you got new tubes from rat destruction, did you get a chance to replace the whole tube?
This was educational. Did you ever have the same issue on the driver's side and fix it? I have a major water intrusion and I am not at all mechanically inclined. I would like to see the repair of the driver's side. It was a great video. Thank you.
Hey all, my partner just paid $600 to have the dealer install a new line on the front passenger side. I couldn’t believe it… They also said that getting the flooring and padding dry would be ANOTHER *$1,000*. They recommended the following to ensure everything was dry, as the flooring carpet has rubber under it. So, the padding won’t dry otherwise. remove all the seats, center console and pull all the carpeting and padding then hang it to dry prior to reinstall. Unfortunately we don’t have a garage or dry and secure place to just air out the car. Anyone have any insights into drying the carpet flooring and/or pulling these items out?
@@JDAW9999 i know, right? Im in the same position now and it would be awesome to just have the information readily available. Instead, they decide to be selfish and keep the knowledge to themselves
@@JDAW9999 i just tested my drain hole like 5 min ago and i think i have the same issue as KY. I'm gonna call my dealership to see what they can do if anything (its a manufacturer issue afterall) and before i screw anything up myself. Any tips on how to get the tube initially In? Did you have to disassemble anything?
@@galenparker I followed all the steps from the video as far as getting to the point of pulling down the head liner. Once you can get to it it's easy.
Please can you tell me how many drainer and the sunroof I have the same vehicle

Excellent. I am glad this video was helpful.😊😊👍

Nice video, thanks for helping me solve my problem. I used PEX. 1/4" Plumbing tubing as the "stent"
Jeff Robertson awesome I am glad this video was helpful. Cheers 👍
Excellent work, two thumbs up!

Fyi, i used a pen sleeve and used a torch to bend. That worked well.

Would it be possible to take up "slack" in hose by pulling it out from the bottom and trimming excess??

the old clogged drain hose! good repair but it may be sensitive to clogging in time people never clean the sunroof tub or the cowl
Dang, another thing I'll have to look in to for preventive maintenance. I didn't know about the sunroof tub or cowl, ha ha.

basically used a rigid hose as a stint to avoid the drain hose to mechincally to kink.

Well done friend!
I'm just going to caulk the sunroof shut on my Acura MDX. Lol. Seriously. It has 280k on it.
Good vid and great fix. I remember something about those drains from sister dealership guys. You may need to rethink the medical feild lol. ; )
Joshua Myers No my friend I am good. Medical filed is my comfort zone. As mechanic I would not last a week. Cheers bro😃😃
My Acura had the same issues on the driver side
Thank you.
Wow
Use a couple zip ties at the kink as to keep it from kinking again.
You can remote the airbag on the side that you will able to see the whole thing. You can pm me and I can show you what to do.
Thank you my friend. I worked on this car last year and I didn’t see it ever since. It didn’t have any more leaks.👍
