As a metalhead who also has a thing for punk on the side, it's interesting to see the history of crossover thrash from the punk perspective, since pretty much every other version of the story I've seen was from a more metal lense. Great vid man, I look forward to your future endeavours.
@Ross_skatepunx248 that’s the beauty of crossover, it’s part of both of our scenes. Hence it is a “crossover” genre.
@Skatepunx248 I like crossover myself and I'm a metal guy,but I never saw it as our thing,it's just punks taking more cues from metal, thrash metal is our own thing not crossover
@@skatepunx2489 Yeah, they claimed Grindcore as their own.... so we get to claim Crossover as our own.
@@skatepunx2489 I don't see any debate. Crossover is definitely a punk thing. They were punk bands that borrowed from metal and not the other way around, except for Nuclear Assault and Anthrax (SOD) I guess. The "other way around" would be thrash metal itself.
@@skatepunx2489 Not all bandmembers have long hair though! Imo you can tell the best crossover by finding short-haired, punk-looking dudes in the back cover LOL. Attitude Adjustment, Cryptic Slaughter, Crumbsuckers, Excel, Leeway. (DRI and Suicidal aside). But i see your point.
My 3 favorite Crossover bands are Uncle Slam, D.R.I. and Suicidal Tendencies. I'm a huge Thrash fan and I love Crossover. S.O.D. are now 4 in my top 5. 1. Uncle Slam 2. D.R.I. 3. Suicidal Tendencies 4. S.O.D. 5. Municipal Waste.
have you listened to nuclear assault? legit such a good crossover thrash band
@@frost7724 I dig Nuclear Assault. Handle With Care is a great album.
@@SuperStrik9 yeah it is, game over is another good album
@@frost7724 I gotta add Uncle Slam to number 1 in my top 3 favorite Crossover bands. Incredibly AMAZING band. Hadn't heard them when I made my original comment 3 years ago. Say Uncle, Will Work For Food and When God Dies are all Crossover classics. I'll move S.O.D. down to 4 in my top 5 Crossover bands and put Uncle Slam in their place in my top 3. S.O.D. while amazing only have 1 amazing album Speak English Or Die. Bigger Than The Devil is good.
Uncle Slam have 3 albums and all 3 are amazing albums. Say Uncle, Will Work For Food and When God Dies. Uncle Slam singer/guitarist Todd Moyer has a TH-cam page alien chow. Just search uncle slam alien chow to find it. A bunch of great Uncle Slam live vids from back in the day to be found there.🤘
And we are still carrying the crossover flag 35 years later!
I saw dri a month ago in Sydney and I was blown away with how much more heavy they sounded live than on their albums
Municipal Waste is coming next month
Speaking of DRI I'd love it if they made a new album.
Excellent job….as a metalhead teenager during this time you nailed my progression into hardcore… being prepped by Show No Mercy before going into Dealing With It, Animosity, Martha Splatterhead was perfect timing
Man love that you gave love to crossover. it's one my favorite subgenres of all time. BUT i was surprised that you didnt mention Power Trip.
Power Trip is bad ass! Saw them supporting Danzig and Venom in 2018. Definitely would throw their early stuff in with the new school crossover cohort. But a lot of their newer stuff seems to be more on the straight up thrash metal side of things.
@@thepunkhistorian6397 I definitely get you. And hope I didn't come off as one those, "you forgot x y a bands" kinda douche. Keep on making kickass content man. This video auto made be sub to you. Cant wait to see more stuff!
@@Moua cheers! Thanks for watching!
Power Trip are great. RIP Riley Gale.
My favorite channel. Never stop
Glad to discover your channel dude. As a punk/metalhead i obviously love crossover scene and Ny scene in particular. I choose Billy "Mosh" Milano as my favorite singer and of course, S.O.D. and M.O.D as my favorite crossover bands, already sounding very metal, more than Void for example, later too. I remember some old tracks of the Freeze, not really thrash or metal but really speedy and aggressive like Sickly Sweet. Boston was really rough at this time, just remember Deep Wound or Siege...,( one of my fav early grind/thrashcore). Thanx for your works really impressive, from pop punk to grind.
Keep up dude!!! Greeting from France!!
I almost forget...CRUMBSUCKERS!!!
As a young hardcore punk from California back in the mid 80s I remembered DRI with they're ridiculously hard and fast "g.d.m.s.o.b". And yes Discharge "they declare it" and "After the gig", Wasted Youth's "Ethiopian nightmare", Raw Power's "hate", and the Entire S.O.D. album. Those were pretty interesting times, when us hardcore shaved head guys could hang out with a long hair Stoner dudes and get into the same heavy music.
I’m 34 and have been in the punk and metal scene since I was probably 12 or a little earlier and it’s about time it gets proper coverage and recognition I dig the content you got yourself a sub bro. I feel like an astronaut unicorn in the service after 12 years I’m the old guy who doesn’t listen to their crappy music nowadays haha
The Void had that gnarly feeling to their guitars ala heavy metal queens and Black Sabbath. Perhaps this is why Void is liked by crossover thrash straightedge kids and crust punks alike?
The self-titled album "Carnivore" (1985) remains one of my favorite recordings from the 1980s. Their second album "Retaliation" is also worth mentioning 🤘
I find carnivore to be questionably crossover. It's just far too technical and melodic to be punk but it definitely is strong with the Doom.
Solid work. When you called out COC, my hair stood up.
C.O.C is all time top 10.
I always thought bad brains were one of the main influences for crossover. They sound more metal to me than stuff like the circle jerks and 7seconds. Even the first record from 1982. May be wrong, ‘cause I only got into heavy music around 1990.
I mean all early hardcore had an impact on thrash & crossover as the genres were born out of that stuff. I’ve just always thought of VOID, ST, and DRI as the first bands to take things to the next level and blend say Motörhead with Black Flag
No you're right. Rock for Light was pivotal and can maybe be called the first Crossover record. But the wikipedia made no mention of this so that fact flew over his head. For god sakes he thought the Dirty Rotten Imbeciles ep was crossover... tells you everything you need to know.
my all time favorite is Cryptic Slaughter, the bass in streams of consciousness is so fucking awesome. I got to hang out with Rob "Blasko" Nicholson at ozzfest when he was playing for zombie, he's playing in zakk sabbath now. 2nd DRI , 3rd SOD
Covicted
@@richardgiudice3631 and Money Talks.
I've seen Municipal Waste 2 times and they can put on a show! Crossover is my second favorite genre after thrash! Of course, I'm new to the crossover scene, thinking all these bands are thrash because of their speed. And now I'm getting into crust punk thanks to you! I was slightly informed of the genre and had heard some bands but now I'm getting into it more!
DRI is one of my all time favorite bands and SLAYER is my favorite band. Thrash is my favorite metal genre because of the heavy punk influence.
I was a teenager during the Crossover era, really interesting time. One additional band to mention is SNFU out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I saw them in 1987 at a tiny hall show in Michigan, absolutely rippin'.
I also love Send More Paramedics as I love the zombie and horror genres. Ratos De Porão has crossed over from the punk genre to heavier and faster stuff, I think their album "Brazil" is a must listen for any crossover thrash fan. :)
I love that you mentioned SkullCrack, played with them in my small town in California in someone’s backyard, I had no idea they were that far out there and well known
Favorites have always been D.R.I., Municipal Waste, and Iron Reagan
Excellent video... greetings from Brazil... have you listened to brazilian band Ratos de Porao? It’s a very good crossover group... I recommend the albums Brasil and Anarkophobia
And from more recent times, DFC from Brasilia, also great. Flagelador on the more raw metal side, but also punky.
Ratos de Porao is a great suggestion... they were on our band playlist. Maximum Rock and Roll was great for connecting us with similar bands across the globe. Ratos were a standout.
80s Brazil thrash bands IMO always have a taste in writing punkish stuffs which I love a lot
Dont know much about thier crossover scene but they did have a plethora of great thrash metal bands outside of sepultura. Early sepultura is great though.
Hell yeah dude
Bro you do an excellent Job keep up the good work I hope your channel gets huge
As a punk who grew up in Los Angeles and got to see most of these bands early on. I often wonder why every time I see one of these videos the creator always forgets the one band that did crossover 100% right. English Dogs 84’ EP to the ends of the earth and 85’s LP forward into battle are friggen incredible. Maybe it’s just my opinion but that shit is perfect. Best of the era and still holds up extremely well. In fact better than most
Also Where legend began is the shit!
Cause for Alarm from Agnostic Front is one of the best examples of this. Hell, Peter Steele and Louie Beateaux from Carnivore are on it.
Agreed but liberty and justice was pretty good a little more metal but still thrashes hard. Carnivore rules as well.
I’ve always preferred punk but (later) Exploited paved way for me to discover crossover thrash and thrash metal in general.
I was lucky in my teenage years Slayer was my litteral neighbor on the block behind me in the south east los Angeles neighborhood in Huntington Park. That opened up the thrash punk scene for me especially the Venice. I remember the Balboa theater where suicidal played , Beowulf , excel , and the descendents played in the same show . Best times of my life. We had a great punk & thrash scene and ska to.
Nice! Sounds like a blast
Bloodcum played on that bill. Wish I was there.
@@jackquiroz9034 the singer lived in South Gate I used to know him . Damn forgot his name. Bloodcum band members used to hang with us back in the day.
Joey hanneman he called himself no relation to jeff. They were roadies for slayer. Had a magazine with a interview from thier early 2000s reunion shows. They mentioned all that stuff. With that being said thier demo and death by a clothes hanger are overlooked bangers.
Saw DRI just a few days ago and they still f$ck the place up! Kurt's vocals and the entire band was tight and on point. Thr enrrgy is incredible. They said they tend to do better touring than just record sales and now i know why...this music is incredible live. GBH was fucking epic too.
Crossover thrash is one of my favorite Genre, cool video 😎
As a thrasher staker from the 80s,I was listening to every band that you listed, Big fan of both thrashmetal/punx,But there's one band i couldn't workout back in 80s was a and called Septic Death they had a grindcore sound happening. Great band🤟🤘
Motorhead fans included punks skins and metal heads. Obviously, they were huge. To my my mind Motorhead were the tipping point that brought everything together.
Doesn't everyone love Black Sabbath too? War Pigs is punk af.
I think the Misfits album "Earth AD/Wolfs Blood" also played a role in that whole transition from punk to metal. I bet it influenced a lot of bands on both ends of the spectrum.
I graduated in 85" & I used to go buy vinyl every week even if I didn't know them cuz it was like $4-$5. That's how I found most every band you have mentioned.im so glad it lives on.Also Dr.Know, Reagan youth, VoiVod,Verbal Abuse, Dayglo Abortions, Samhain,Sub Humans,999 so many more❤💥TY for doing what you are it can bring ppl together
Nice video. Sad that it does not include some crossover bands from other countries. UK’s Sacrilege and Concrete Sox in particular. Sacrilege being the perhaps the biggest head scratcher that was not mentioned even in passing. I suppose for younger punks looking back historically, they might seem more of a metal band but at the time for us punks into crossover, they were massive. Their early demos and comp tracks are very punk and the first release Behind the Realms of Madness is absolutely stellar.
On a side note, I’d also plug Die Kreuzen they are absolutely amazing. And… given your video about RKL I think you should check out Life Sentence. Another underrated band seems right up your alley and also slightly crossover but definitely early hardcore.
Sacrilege are awesome. I got that and Onslaught when they were first released. Die Kreuzen is another great band. Got to see them live.
Good call on sacrilidge and especially concrete sox thier first 3 lps plus thier split with heresy were grossly overlooked there were other great uk band such as hellbastard, Ardkore, Anihilated, Hellkrusher and many others
Yeah Die kreuzen lp is pretty original totally wild vocals. And life sentence both Lps rule as well.
Hope you do a "Crass Course" for the thrash metal genre one day!
The first club show I ever saw was DRI's Dealing With It tour. Nuclear Assault opened and were selling their demo tape.
I actually like crossover thrash more than thrash or punk alone.
It’s hard for me to disagree with you, but I love all 3 pretty much equally
Uncle Slam! An amazing Crossover Thrash band. Say Uncle (1988), Will Work For Food (1993) and When God Dies (1995) are all great albums imo. The first 2 albums especially. Lead singer/guitarist Todd Moyer has a TH-cam page alien chow. There's a bunch of great Uncle Slam live vids to be found there. Highly recommend checking it out for all Uncle Slam and Crossover Thrash fans.🤘
Crossover is one of my favorite genres, DRI always makes the list of "albums that influenced me" or crap like that on social media for me.
I'd also say that NOFX basically started as a crossover band, and I am prepared to...maybe not DIE on that hill, but get wounded at least.
Also Cryptic Slaughter is one of my favorites, if only because their drummer was always playing way faster than the rest of the band.
Cryptic slaughter drummer was fucking insane lmaooo
Cryptic Slaughter is my shit!
I agree with your nofx statement. I always thought that their white trash album was full of metal riffs and rhythms. It’s not a metal album but definitely has some crossover stuff going on
@@sethmolenaar1801 liberal animation and maximum rock n roll are straight up thrash albums, SnM too for the most part.
I got to see DRI in Denver about 34, 35 years ago. it was the first and only time I got to stagedive. the band said "if you don't F with our equipment, well then come on up"!!! and so I did! it was the four of a kind tour, I think, it was a long time ago!lol!
Sick video again dude 🤘🏻 loving it
First ever hardcore-esque song I heard was Cyco Vision by ST on the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater. I would have been 9 at the time. Never looked back :)
I still believe that that soundtrack made that game. Fun game, but that soundtrack with dead kennedies and ST made it a great game
One of my favorite crossover bands is Siberian Meat Grinder. I also like Holier Than Thou?, Defy False Authority, Violator and Municipal Waste.
Municpal waste is great. Good call on holier than thou thier first lp is a all time early 2000s favorite. Could kinda hear a accused influence. Wish I saw em live.
@@jackquiroz9034 I sadly didn't get into a lot of crossover till a few years ago. I did get to see Iron Reagan live a couple times.
Better late than never. Iron regan were probably alot of fun live. I saw municipal waste live play to less than 50 people in a small room next to a church in Anaheim in 2003 one of the funnest shows ever.
@@jackquiroz9034 sounds awesome! Yeah, Iron Reagan was fun. The other bands they played with were pretty serious, except for Black Dahlia Murder, they were fun too.
yay, been waiting for this :)
You know your shit bro... you deserve so much more views
No he doesn’t. This video is full of misinfo
Can you do a video on grindcore
When I was a kid my old band The Condemned got to open for DRI and DOA in Oxnard Ca. when DRI was on their Crossover tour. VOID is an awesome band. Raw Power screams from the gutter is an awesome album. attitude adjustment was great. the accused were great. English Dogs Forward into battle awesome album. A good band not sure if they made a record was Corruption Demo -Infest of Rage. i have the demo and it is pretty good.
The condemned sounds like a raging band. Yeah you have a
Lot of good picks. Hopefully that corruption infest of rage gets a vinyl reissue.
@@jackquiroz9034 That would be awesome.

Shot for your playlist ekse.
Time to get goofed and check it out.
What about Toxic Holocaust? I think they fit next to Municipal Waste, but are they crossover?
Earlier Toxic Holocaust is more openly crossover, it has much more punky riffs and d-beats written all over the place, later has this still, but it's more metallic.
About crust punk that you mentioned, you should listen to Antisect.
Yes especially thier into the void 7ep had some thrash metal riffing in the guitar sound.
thanks for the killing time mention 👍🏻
Brightside is a classic N.Y.H.C smasher of a record.
Seen municipal waste in Pensacola
Quick story: Our band Stark Raving Mad released a 12" @ 45 .... one song in particular had a very strong audience response: Mr. Hardcore!!! The slow part got the circle started and when the thrash burst out all hell would break loose. We were in NYC when the Cro-Mags were formed. Rumor had it Harley enjoyed that tune!!! Lol
I really like your band and think you are massively underrated. The lyrics were silly and dogmatic sometimes but that's just something standard for this style of music. Along with Agnostic Front, D.R.I., M.D.C., Neon Christ, Septic Death, The Neos, Deep Wound, Siege, Negative FX, Jerry's Kids, No For An Answer and Cryptic Slaughter you were one of the hardcore'est hardcore bands ever. I've heard that you hated bands like D.R.I., Cro-Mags, Agnostic Front, Cause For Alarm, S.O.D. and New York scene in general. Is that true? Cheers from Poland.
@@piotrb8434 Thanks!!! Well, the truth (and you can hear it) is there was a beef with DRI (Kurt and Eric, DRI) but not with the music. Our drummer was married to Spike's sister!!! We were considered "sister bands".Stark Raving Mad was a left leaning band and we weren't into the Nazi shit (lol). The beef was ideological not musical. We were in NYC but weren't really considered part of the scene and we didn't really want to be. There were people from the bands that you listed that we were cool with... Roger from Agnostic Front, Vinny from Cause For Alarm.... At the end of the day our focus was practice.... we (and in particular Steven) wanted a tight sound. This was one of the reasons I dropped out. I didn't mind being tight and practicing, I just wanted something more.
As he should both 12eps were some of the most intense wild out of control without falling apart spazztic hardcore punk played at top speeds for the early 80s. Stark Raving Mad fan 4 life.
I have a Void logo tattooed on the back of my neck have the Condensed flesh 7" and the split with the faith. I always loved crossover being from east coast bands like SOD, MOD, DRI, have always been on my Playlist. I'd have never thought about Void being early beginning of crossover but especially on the 7" I'd say definitely even the cover art and subject matter. Yes it's more of a hard-core punk album but it has elements. You don't hear much about Void I'm glad to hear another human being talking about them not many people know of their short existence
The was boss! I'm loving this channel so far. I just kinda stumbled in here, but I'm glad I stayed. Punk and thrash feel like they complement each other so I always LOVED both. Thanks for posting, this stuff has been absolute quality so far. I HAVE to ask though....
Do you agree early Iron Maiden (Paul Di'anno era) is the grandfather of crossover? Lol. ☺
Sweet video buddy
Good luck with the bridge city recordings mate!
Thanks!
As someone that enjoyed the SF hardcore scene in the early/mid 80’s everything died for me in 1986 when I saw DRI and Death Angel. To me that signified the death of the only thing I ever loved.
I’m kind of (very) surprised Cause for Alarm by Agnostic Front was not brought up. Sure there were thrashier bands before, but I think that record was probably the first true crossover record. Predates Crossover by DRI. Still Screaming by Scream could be mentioned as well, the level of playing was on a different level. But still, the importance of Cause for Alarm shouldn’t be understated
When I was more into metal I never got too into thrash (aside from Ghoul). When I started playing in punk bands Take Offense were the local heroes my band would open for. I dug it but still never got into it. I’m still a bit confused on the difference between straight up thrash, and crossover. Can anyone describe the difference?
Also I checked out your bands and I’m digging them, good stuff! I play drums in a horror punk band so I’m stoked to see your take on that genre.
Crossover is usually more punk influenced. So like less double kick and soloing, more d beat grooves and gang choruses
Ghoul is gnarly as fuck. Definitely one of my favorite thrash bands of the last 10 or so years.
And that’s awesome dude. What’s ur band called?
I love crossover thrash
There were several bands that blended HC Punk and Metal early on... Many of those bands went unnoticed. Power Of The Spoken Word from Nebraska; check their "Language Of Dying Breed" LP (1985) is a perfect example. China White with their "Dangerzone" 12" EP (1981) is another example of early Metal infused HC Punk. Disorderly Conduct's "Amen" (1986). Watchtower from Texas...
Good call on china white as they had frank ruffino who was a great guitarist plus a great production on that record. Speaking of texas gotta add Dresden 45 and U.Y.U.S 2 great hardcore band who had a chunk of metal in thier sound especially Dresden 45. The texas extreme metal hardcore underground from the 80s was grossly overlooked.
Outstanding..thanks very much!!!\m/
No Agnostic Front?
My band is opening up for DRI in September I can't fucking wait, they got me into thrash since I first heard 4 of a kind.
Thank you for this video....Even if I really didn't 100000% play only this music, it was probably the impetus for my entire career
Tony from municipal waste lives in my town in Florida. He hangs out at the bar I always go to. Cool dude. Sick video man. Mostly into punk rock and shit, but some metal catches my ear depending what it is. ST, DRI, and the like are all fucking sweet.
Say Uncle.... or die. Rarely do I EVER hear uncle slam mentioned at all. Ever. So... yeah. Good. My request will be a video on what I refer to as "the Golden Age" of metal. Where caveman transitioned to technical.

Maybe in the far future. I still have to cover hardcore, crust, poweviolence, etc.

How about the UK’s first thrash crossover band ‘Ardkore’ they started in 1985 and recorded several demos and one album ‘Napalm Stix To Kids’ worth checking out ! 🤟🏻
Good call I have that lp sounds kinda like Heresy. It's been a while since I played it. Late 80s U.K.H.C rules.
Im glad you included Discharge and NYHC. However The Exploited and Agnostic Front made some of the best crossover thrash albums. Production wise they were amazing and are also beloved hardcore punk bands. But still solid punk bands did crossover into metal. One genre that was missed was Groove metal. This genre was pioneered by Exhorder but was influenced by crossover thrash particularly DRI and NYHC. Pantera has fused this sound and incorporated the slow tempos into their music.
I love nuclear assault game over
Classic record. The 2 after that and thier 84 demo rule as well.
No mention of Power Trip?
1. Motörhead is the first crossover band
2. Powerviolence begins with Cryptic Slaughter
3. Great video
No and no.
@@piotrb8434 Oh was there an earlier band that crossed over Punk and Metal than Motorhead?
@@natelandherr5202 Yes, The Stooges on Raw Power (1973). Also, crossover is a mix of hardcore and metal, not punk and metal. I differentiate between punk metal and crossover. The examples of punk metal/metal punk would be later Exploited, The Blood, some G.B.H., some Venom, The English Dogs, Warfare, L7. Crossover is Violent Pacification/Dealing With It period D.R.I., early C.O.C., Inferno (Germany), Heresy, Agnostic Front, Cryptic Slaughter, Intense Degree, first The Crumbsuckers album, S.O.D., that kind of thing.
@@piotrb8434 Im talking more of the concept of punk metal fusion that was popular in the 80's whether that be crossover, crust, or Dbeat, it all starts with Motörhead
Wasted Youth Black Daze, I had that album until someone stole it. I have never been able to find it again, it's so rare it is hard to find it all on TH-cam.
Had that cassette back in 92 it's great kinda had a venice vibe to it especially the band uncle slam comes to mind. Aversion is another great band from that era of obscure socal crossover thrash.
Hells yeah. I wore a Municipal Waste T to our recent municipal elections in South Africa with a Suicidal cap
What South African bands do you recomend me? Cheers from Ecuador
I seen Municipal waste for the first time with a roadie from days n daze. I was sitting in the shade eating pizza and he asked if he could sit next to me( as there was almost no shade in the field). We got to talking and said I was bummed because looked like days n daze were going to miss the show. I assume it was boarder issues. But he explained why they were not there and asked him how he knew. Lol we finished our pizza smoked some hash and went to watch the show. Lost him in the pit. Was a good show. 🤘
Cryptic Slaughter were the shit! Their Money Talks album is pure album gold.
Have you ever heard of haemorrhage, they are goregrind band from Spain, even though they're not technically a crossover band some of their songs do sound like they have elements of crossover thrash in them, you should check them out.
Not surprising cause grindcore/goregrind is also crossover genre, with one foot in metal and one in punk. Some bands, styles and scenes of grind lean more punk, some more metal, but both were building blocks. Also, Haemorrhage rocks. I've been listening to them from early 2000s. That mighty clicky d-beat, it's such punchy
I’m curious as to how many of these albums mentioned are still in production.
Glad to see 90s Sodom getting some love
i know this is a somewhat old video but do you know of power trip? Sadly their vocalist passed away a couple years ago now but they were pretty big and impactful and i believe were part of the crossover thrash revival scene or at least described themselves as crossover. Either way definitely one of my all time favourite metal bands at this point between having those politically charged but somewhat bleak and at times nihilistic lyrics but very consistantly thrashy licks. Took a lot of inspiration from them for my own band and guitar playing and shit
Yeah I saw them a few years ago, Riley was actually still kickin back then (RIP) I never really thought of them as crossover until so many people commented on here. With all the soloing and longer songs I just thought of them as straightforward thrash metal. But it kinda makes sense
@@thepunkhistorian6397 yeah tru that makes sense, I think their incorporation of a lot of d-beats and socially conscious lyrics as well as members citing inspiration from cro-mags and other bands is kinda where the crossover element comes in? I definitely think they leaned more towards thrash but in some ways it seems like they gradually progressed deeper into the thrash sound with every new release. Their demo and earlier releases definitely have a bit more of a hc punk vibe but still very thrashy sounding lol. Either way not like pissed you didn't bring them up or anything obviously just wasn't sure if other ppl had brought them up although i clearly somehow missed other people in the comments lmaoo... either way dope ass videos man this is like the best format for learning about the background of punk and metal subgenres and shit keep it up!
I just briefly scanned the replies and want to add that the East L.A. band The Stains who released an album on SST deserves a mention as an early band who fused punk and metal.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention Power Trip
ratos de porão from Brazil deserve major credit as well…but that just me.
Found this late but surprised to see no mention of UK giants like send more paramedics or gama bomb! Also no mention of Cross Examination?! Heresy at its best!
Suicidal Tendencies have been one of my favorite bands since their debut album. I've seen them a few time, but unfortunately, it's always been as an opening act: Metallica, Slip Knot and Queensryche. May have seen them at a multi-band musical festival also,... Makes me wonder if they tour as a headliner?
I wish I could be nicer about this… it was a sad day for the punk scene when this started to happen. Basically marked the end of it all.
Video on Powerviolence?
At some point yes!
@@thepunkhistorian6397 thank you, sir!
there is also to mention the album "My War" by Black Flag which had an very notable mix of metal and punk that quite influenced this genre alot, even though the sound from this album is not actually crossover trash because of it's sludgy and slow sound compared to normal Crossover Trash.
D.R.I. Was the first Crossover Thrash band I listened to and they are still my favorite. In the grand scheme of music they are so underrated. Should be talked about like Led Zeppelin and Metallica are
