      You have to look at it from a liability stand point. When I worked at Walgreens, we threw away eggs close to expiration date and my co-worker asked my boss why don't we donate them to a homeless shelter. He said that it's a liability to the company in case someone gets deathly sick or something happens health wise. Same goes for products that were displays. However, I understand where you're coming from, target donates their items to Goodwills.

      I volunteer with homeless and extremely low income people and it makes me sad +angry when people throw out perfectly good stuff. I live in a newer apartment in a semi nice part of town, everytime people move they throw out such nice stuff, just the other day i found really nice clothes and shoes stuffed in a bag and real leather bar stools that looked brand new and a cool metal wall art and other stuff. I took the clothes to the place i volunteered. The stools and wall art i kept, the wall art still being sold on Amazon for $56 and the stools after looking them up were close to $300 a piece.

      Mr ManHuman in Australia we expect that people might (perhaps over time e.g. a couple of months) take various things with our personal details on them and try use them to open a credit card in our name or whatever 🤷‍♀️ So I ALWAYS cut up any debit or credit or healthcare cards, shred papers with personal details, etc.!
      I don't live in a poor area, but it isn't SUPER rich either. So the chances of there being a house full of druggies down the road is a real possibility! For this reason I hide my empty subscription medication boxes inside a box that used to hold food - because a few of the meds that I'm on would be VERY desirable to a drug addict and I don't want to put myself at risk for some kind of home invasion where people look for my meds/scripts/etc.
      I don't personally know what these certain drugs are actually WORTH on the black market, but they're definitely desirable and quite addictive (unfortunately, as a result, that often makes it hard for me to get them from a new Dr because so many people 'Dr shop' and 'chemist hop' to get enough of these drugs to either sustain their habit or sell/swap for other drugs...
      End of the story - there is ALWAYS the possibility that someone might go through your bins, so it's best to play it on the safe side!

    • @hathama1088
      @hathama1088 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That is true! The wax vaporizes and collects inside the chimney just like creosote and is highly flammable. You can throw those candles in old mason jars, coffee cups, old tins, jars from candles you've already burned, or just on an old plate to catch wax drippings. And also true about the hardwoods. They have less resins, etc to collect inside the chimney.

    All I could think the whole time was what a mess you make when you open bags! You might be finding treasures, but bags serve a purpose. They keep garbage from flying everywhere when the cans are emptied. I’d seriously reconsider how you open bags and discard when you’re done. You’re probably causing the garbage trucks grief with garbage flying everywhere.

I'd stay away from that grouping if alone.

Legally you can sift through someone’s personal trash in a residential area as long as they placed it on the public sidewalk or curb away from their home. It’s legal. You just have to know your local laws & be confident & you could have them printed on hand in case you’re paranoid.

    Thanks for taking us with you! That was scary and FUN! Careful bringing home "soft" items that could be infested. People usually throw things away in bags when they contain bugs. Picking up hard items is a lot safer. You have better luck toward the end of the month when apartments are being vacated. What they don't take, they throw away. I used to clean apts, so I've seen nice things on the ground by dumpsters when tossing trash. Check ungated ritzy areas of town. Happy diving!!

      I live on a street with small 2 storey apartment buildings, only 8-10 units in each building. Whenever someone gets rid of furniture or working electronics, they always put them out front of their building instead of in the garbage or in their dumpster.
      My daughter and I have scored a couple great things. Including a leather and fabric sectional couch that looked like it was brand new...there wasn't a mark or stain on it, no crumbs or anything between the cushions, no rips or stains. Before we brought it in, we checked every inch of it for bedbugs and other problems, and it was absolutely pristine. We couldn't believe that someone had thrown it out.

We pretty much have furnished our apartment from the people in our apartment complex throwing away stuff. Very nice stuff too.
