Cutting 1/2" Aluminum halo lit signs with Carveco Maker and Onefinity CNC Elite Foreman

  • Here is a video of how I have been making halo lit aluminum signage for over a decade in high end commercials settings. These Onefinity Elite Series machines are pretty light duty for commercial applications with thicker aluminum but can still produce quality product. I do the roughing with a 6mm bit and finish with a 1/8" bit which I buy from AliExpress.
I had never used any Carveco software before this but it is just rebranded artcam. I used for years at a place I was employed so its like muscle memory to me. Nowadays I prefer vectric for a few reasons but the elite series came with a free year Carveco Maker so I am using it for now.
**I forgot to mention I changed the motors settings for the finishing passes to 4000 step from the stock 400 steps, without doing this the edge finish looks like trash. More on this in a coming video**

Nice job with cutting the aluminum. It’s nice to see what the machine is capable of.

Thanks for the comment. While the machine is capable of getting a good finish, the motor resolution needs to be increased quite a bit sacrificing torque.

Excellent Video... Great work and great design.... I tried cutting Aluminum and it was a disaster. I will try again after watching this. I'm wondering if the quality of aluminum matters. Thanks again

Thanks for the reply, make sure you use single flute "spiral O" style bits. Don't those traditional 2 flute endmills.

Awesome video! Just subbed to your channel. We're waiting for our Onefinity Elite to arrive and we definitely want to experiment with aluminum.

Good day, did you see any drop in torque from 400 to 4000 motor resolution ?

I did not notice drop in torque but i don't know about the longevity. I have actually removed them already and I am in the process of swapping in 400w AC Servos. In my opinion they are too weak but i think most users are completely happy with them. My problem is i have been running commercial machines over 2 decades so there is no way i was ever going to be happy with steppers motors.
