Since Ontario Southland Railway came to be, it has gained more customers (one of its biggest ones is CAMI Assembly, when they transported the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain to the CP main line in Woodstock. They also shipped some of those rail cars to the CN Dundas subdivision to.).

When I was younger, I'd ride the train from Niagara Falls Ontario to Powassan. Stopped in every town on the way. Barrie, Burks Falls, sundridge, Orillia, South River. I was 10 or 11 and so clearly remember that experience.
The old Meritton Rail Yard used to be a busy place years ago with all the Paper Mills and other industries in full swing. Sad to see most have gone!! Hope Trillium Railway keeps going for years to come.
you should give woodstock Ontario a visit, it's a really great place, it gets CN, CP, and OSR, i can give you some times for trains that casually take a stroll through, CN 394 comes through around 9 AM, CP 235 passes at around 10 AM and Via 75 passes around 11 AM, don't miss the OSR local coming in and switching, it comes in at around 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, switches for a bit, then leaves between 3/5 PM.
I also remember a rail line that ran through Algonquin Park on the eastern side. Kind of haunting at 1 am camping near these tracks and having a train come through. These tracks are probably long gone.

In terms of alco's I don't know if you could come to Scranton Pennsylvania but if you're able to someday you would love it there's a Short Line running beside Steamtown National Historic Site that uses alcos for Motive Power and they are old ones some of them very old in fact
Seen Em. Loved listening to the RS's idling. Stayed in the hotel there on the railroad side. Woke up feeling like it was the 1940's listening to the steam tourist train going by in the morning.

I hate graffiti on rolling stock... but I gotta admit it looks fancy and kinda cool on the box cars at 6:20. I think its because the locomotive is bright blue..
Those are what are called "classification lights". They are a holdover of railroad tradition, dating back to operation by timetables and train orders. The timetable-and-train-order system has been replaced by other forms of movement authority, and classification lights are no longer used, although older locomotives still have them. The purpose of classification lights was to help identify the train on which they were displayed. Some common displays of classification lights are as follows: *WHITE* - Used for any train that was operating outside their timetable for whatever reason. *GREEN* - Used for any scheduled train that has a second section following close behind. *RED* - Used as End-Of-Train markers.

That's the beauty of them they were built to last and continue doing the job they were built for without fail unlike the modern crap we have now that fails every second
Great to see……. But in the U.K , we would have had any service like this shut down years ago , as unviable. On the road, here we come. More and more lorries , that’s how we work , unfortunately.
I had to stop watching the GMTX333 crew 1/2 way thru. Isn’t there a CCOR for Canada? Jeez....no whistle at any crossing. Not even a bell for a few. Is the entire line in a quiet zone? Foreman gets off with leading foot ever time. Back to locomotive to get off once, hell...even jumps off once to “walk” ahead to protect a crossing with obvious auto traffic? Apparently they can’t afford a horn for the motor...or a safety manager.
The F-Unit brought back a lot of younger memories. Thanks.
Awesome video of Ontario shortlines. I subscribed to your channel as well!
Good picture quality sir👍👍👍👍👍
I believe I saw an Ontario Southland loco in Guelph Ont. a few years ago.

14:14 May I Ask what an SLR Boxcar is doing in Ontario for goodness sake? The railroad is located in Maine....
boxcars go all over North America, even if it's from a certain railroad, doesn't mean its gonna stay on that exact railroad

Look around and after 11:12, the second wheel is totally locked up as the locomotive is stopping lol

So is the f unit is just casually used in freight service or?
Yes, they have 5 or 6 FP7/9's in use, usually seen every day or so.
Railfanmatt4 how cool is that. Thank you
I wonder why Canadian railroads don't have "railroad crossing" on their crossbucks or signals? I've always wanted to know that....just curious
We had them but they were all gone in 2000

Did I read correctly that the middle unit was a gp-9 ohmygod how old that
The GP-9 is from the late 1950's (rebuilt in the mid 80's). I found the same unit in Waterloo recently so it is still in use!
