The valve in the turbine scroll is called a Diverter Valve. They're very useful to make a large turbo spool like one half it's size. I've used these on 80mm S400 BW turbos with great results on street vehicles 👌👌
Comp Turbo here in California does it for $750 and $825 to clip Rear Blades to Spool up faster and relieves back pressure that kills our top end boost. I’m getting mine done now and should have it back soon. I’ve tried reaching Turbo Lab but it seems there to busy and I talk to one guy but the other I need to talk to doesn’t answer. Nice they do these builds but I don’t have forever and turned to another place that builds Turbo’s bigger than mine and got it done quickly, meaning shipping, billing and professionalism.

That's pretty interesting TD04HL !! Crazy the ole 30year old HL is still being put in so many modern engines from Porsche to Kia's. Twin scrolls, casted in turbine housings, electric boost controls, and just so many cool engines.
+Bryan Leverett yes, Ian and I talked about this one, we wouldn't be surprised if it breaks into the 400+ hp range because of the turbine housing.
Are you saying a Rdx stock 2.3l 4 cylinder I can get total of 364hp

I love this setup I have an RDX but I think i'm going to do very minor upgrades due to selling this for a bigger suv.. Only bad thing is on the stock ECU turbo drops PSIs around 4500 to keep everything super safe. boost build is actually not bad on 1500-4000 rpms
Take a look at Hondata RDX Flash ECU's for a moderate upgrade in power and increase in boost levels at higher RPM's. You'd be looking in the range of 10-25 HP increase.

Very interesting wheel upgrades. The turbo in stock trim is limited to about 300hp. My rdx is around 280hp through the front wheels. e85, intake and full exhaust. It just doesn't want to add any more boost. dies off pretty quick. I'd be interested to know what this costs and try it out
+boosted98acura we do this upgrade and rebuild for 500$. It's likely that your internal wastegate Spring pressure is too low which will limit the max boost it can run because the exhaust pressure will force the wastegate flap open at higher rpm because the pressure in the turbine housing becomes so high at higher rpm that it over powers the spring in the wastegate actuator.
boosted98acura a stock rdx makes 260hp at tha crank an 240 torque. but yes the turbo is limited to a around 300 without upgrading.

FYI MDXs are all V6 Naturally Aspirated. Only RDXs come 4cyl turbo.

That turbine housing is great and that comp wheel should do 400whp, but is it me, or is that comp housing looking a bit smaller A/R than your typical volvo type comp housing? Could just LOOK small since physically that turbine setup takes up a lot of space.
Is the RDX/MDX using a K20 or K24? Never looked into what's in one, even though I drove one to make fun of it one time ( RDX AWD ).
The BB mistu center section you guys are looking to do, is it going to be TD05 based or TD04 ? (other video I know ).
+Bryan Leverett it's a k23A1. 2.3 4 cylinder turbo that makes 240 hp factory. I have the parts to do tdo5 turbos in ballbearing. The tdo4 will be more challenging, I don't plan to make tdo4 ballbearing. They are too small.
The Mdx is actually a 3.5 liter v6 no turbo that makes 290 hp. Ian told me he thought it had the same motor but it's actually the same body just different engine.
The 3.5 is more fuel efficient. Go figure.

the wastegate accuator is a big problem in these they stick and cause the check engine light to stay on they do not sell it seperate from acura so try to greese and free it if not your buying a new or used turbo
It's actually the pin and ring that connect them. There's a billet upgrade that's cheap and easy. And they do well replacement spool valves and wg actuators now days.

Are familiar with noises in this type of turbos. Mine makes a rattle sound on decel after the raving the engine with the car in park, i pulled the turbo out but it doesnt make any noise when espining the turbine with compress air, thanks

I have a question I bought a rebuild turbo from a eBay outfit. I open it to make sure that it had been rebuild well inside this turbo there’s a big spacer washer we’re the turbine sit on this one has has cracks 2 of them will this be ok or can I get this from something we’re i been all over the internet I can’t find one this a 2007 Acura RDX 2.3 turbo please let me know thank you

Which Volvo engine uses the similar turbo ?
I had a rattling noise coming from the turbo when decelerating and I had no boost at all (turbine would speed up even with slightest gas). Replaced the flow control actuator, and now my boost is amazing and there is no rattling, and turbo doesn't spool up from the slightest gas. However, my car still throws me a check emission light after every ride, could it be the flow control actuator not adjust properly? How should it be adjusted? Thanks

@@nathanielcook21 Basically I just left the code as is. I'm assuming there is a perfect point of where your variable flow ring should be, and finding that perfect point is a big pain in the ass. If it's a bit low or a bit high, ECU will throw check emission code. Code is just annoying for me because it disables AWD, apart from that the only effect is a little higher fuel consumption where you won't really see the difference.

Do you do any Toyota CT turbo stuff? Specifically MR2 turbos? Would love to see how far you could take a CT26 turbo.
+hmong337 I don't do those anymore, I can get the rebuild kit parts for some of them but I ran into issues with some of the ct turbos taking various rebuild kits and having multiple shafts bores, in addition if it needs a bearing housing, turbine wheel, turbine housing, it is difficult if not possible to get replacement parts other than a rebuild kit.
I was thinking you taking the housings and making something totally hybrid with different wheels and such. Think it's possibly doing the CT housing and chra and stuffing different guts in there?
+hmong337 I have never done it before but it maybe possible to machine the turbine housing for an mhi tdo5 cartridge.

I didn't know this existed for my 08 RDX. So you modify the factory turbo for $500? I have a hondata reflash, would this upgrade require additional tuning or modifications?
im not sure if you have to tune it or not. yes we do the upgrade and rebuild for 500$.

how much for the upgrade? do you need a core. I run my stocker at 22psi now
we do this upgrade for 500$. i dont have an cores for this model.
+Turbo Lab America ok. cores are easy to find. mine has 140k on it and miss well upgrade. I don't know how long they will last. i keep the oil super clean changed every 3k. I will be in touch soon! my buddy has a 20t wheel upgrade but I wanted something a lil bigger and glad I found it. thanks !
