    • @ShuffleFM

      @@fabshooter4891 I personally had a horrible time with her at first, all because I built all my characters' skill sets around one specific spot. And the Grave Robber, as well as the Jester, tend to hop around like crazy. • @TheMysteriouswatcher
      @TheMysteriouswatcher 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you're playing on the highest difficulty and no light runs which is the hardest possible way to play the game, she just isn't reliable. Her dodge doesn't help her because the enemies have ridiculous ACC, and her low HP means she will be torn apart in seconds.
      Also, you don't want a low HP character to have such high speed: she will go ahead of your healer and if she's on DD with a DOT, your healer won't be able to save them.
      You can tell this guy hasn't really played the more difficult parts of the game, Crusader and Highwayman have no place in S tier.

  • @mysidianbard5890
    @mysidianbard5890 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Hellion is my favorite front rank character by far. You should take into account that both her self debuffs and camping debuff from battle trance can be removed with a medicinal herbs, Just take a few extra. This also applies to the hangover from revel, which given some planning, can be used to remove 80 stress from the party for the cost of 4 medicinal herbs.

  • @t3chn0dr0n3
    @t3chn0dr0n3 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Talking about the occultist, he has one specific niche where he is extremely strong and that's marking parties. Yes, you dislike marking parties, but in the case that the player decides to build a marking party, the occultist is a top choice.
    A risky but high-damage marking party that I really like is Arbalest-Occultist-Houndmaster-Bounty Hunter. The occultist will almost always go first and mark a backline. What this does is it guarantees that the target will die in two moves (or by the end of the turn if it's a virago) and it does not waste the move of a damage-dealer. I don't know why you're saying that -Prot marks are better than -Dodge ones when at Champion you get backlines with 30 or even 50 dodge, like the hateful virago. A protted hit will just be lower than normal (but still high because of the mark), whereas a dodged hit would deal 0 damage.
    Having said that, the party I mentioned above I use almost exclusively in the weald because it's a mix of human-beast-eldritch.

  • @DogginsFroggins

    I feel like in a vacuum Vestal is A but in practical terms she is an S because of how important healing is, add in the fact shes tanky and has a stun with the only group heal in the game makes her so good. With healing trinkets she is insane, maybe I'm just bad but I can't really think of a "Oh shit" boss or situation without her.
    She's so good that it actually highlights a flaw with the game, she is the only good healer, nothing else really comes close when looking at sustained consistent healing, I hope they have more fully viable healing classes in Darkest Dungeon 2.
    The new class balancing is great by the way, it makes it possible to have these discussions, it's surprising how far the game has come in terms of balance, so much so that I'd honestly be shocked if anyone agreed fully with any tier lists because of how well balanced the game is currently, you could make a case for a number of characters based on so many factors.
    Thanks for these videos, they are so interesting the hour flies by like it was 15 minutes!

    • @ShuffleFM
      @ShuffleFM  5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Thanks for watching and I love your profile pic haha. You raise a great point about the healing system flaws. Between multiple actions and the damage output of certain monsters, she's almost required since you can't infinitely stun or reliably move enemies out of position the entire time. The game is in a great spot in terms of balance currently. Maybe there will be a follow up video talking about other tier lists in the future. Either way, thanks again for the in-depth comment.

    The demon's cauldron alone makes the case for making a team with an Occultist on spot 2. +3 crit helps the 9 crit of the stun skill and since you're in front that means +damage -stress so the stress debuffs are negligible.

    The A list has my favorite comp of four "G.Robber/Vestal/Jester/Hellion" with Helion and grave robber both being two favorite characters.
    The low HP on digger while under bleed/blight is spooky, but the synergy is so good since she can take over the 4h spot with her shadow skill, pushing characters to mid-near front.
    After 30h of playtime I started to realize why independant characters are so good, and they can be a safe pick as early as week 2.

    B: Abomination, Plague Doctor, Crusader, Occultist
    A: MAA, Jester, Houndmaster, Vestal

    Dog treats don't just raise Your DMG a little bit...
    At this moment, this buff grants 50% DMG AND 15 ACC buffs, so its more beneficial from the consistent approach, as it almost guarantees the hit, making it also noticeable stronger.
    From the RNG perspective it makes Your crits brutal, and if You also precede Your Hound's Rush with 'mark' it will almost every time eliminate one backliner, making 'mark' tactics more viable.
    Also, in the unfavorable course of battle, when it's used later it can show, how quickly the tide turns.
    About the Jester sickles: it's also good to have a choice between Harvest and Slice Off from the consistent point of view, as You may eliminate one of the two mid-standing monsters and need to execute more DMG and Bleed on the other one, and sometimes it's a matter of dealing these 2-4 more flat and DOT points of DMG to give You a free action of any other character, who doesn't have to deal with this particular monster anymore. I know You don't cover doubles, but this is when this choice really shines.
    The Flagellant, You covered him in the previous part, but I'd like to mention that I've never run out of his Exsanguinates and Redeems so far, even on the champion battles, so I think he's more valuable even now, and he can just replace back-line healer with being front-line tanky healer, which is very useful, as it gives Your back additional spot with a strong potential.
    Anyway, You made huge amount of great work, deep and comprehensive, very detailed, which supplemented my knowledge.

      Thanks for the in depth comment. The dog treats are really good I agree. There will be tough fights or critical moments where popping one feels so relieving and helpful. Currently doing a torchless run and though my adventurers are only lvl 4 max now the demon's cauldron with the occultist on rank 2 with his stun is insane! He can stun stressdealers due to his high speed, but also monsters with high stress like the collector, shambler etc. It's by far his best non-healing spell and the main reason to pick him. The other one would be that he's a rank 2 healer meaning you have more room in the back for Jester, Arbalest, Plague doctor or other versatility classes. I really love him with a speedy plague doc or arbalest to support his healing. I pretty much never want him to be my only healer.

  • @couchpotatoe91
    @couchpotatoe91 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like the Jester's finale tbh, it's my go-to skill besides the stab, hymn and heal.
    Outside of longer fights I absolutely love it when I'm surprised at lower levels: It allows me to snipe a stresshealer most of the time, rearranging my party by putting him back where he belongs.
    The debuff he gives himself usually isn't that bad since he hit a stresshealer. At worst he gets an additional stress, but he has high dodge and usually his repositioning saves the party more potential stress than his debuff gives.

Biggest of all I think I've really undervalued most of the mobility abilities (things that fix your positioning or hurt the enemies positioning). I'm doing a fresh run applying some of your advice and for the most part I agree.

    Really love the list, very helpful to fuse your knowledge on the game with mine as I prep to do my first real full run.
    Ive played the game for years but never attempted to properly beat it. I consider myself good at the game, just to lazy to beat it, but obviously without beating a game, you are missing a lot of knowledge. So hearing whta you have to say is very nice and helpful.
    All I will reccmond is next time when making tier lists for games like this. Is when you reveal a class, reveal for them two builds.
    1-their "general build" a build you will see them play in most games
    2-A specialist build, a build you do when the game is all about them being your primary carry.

    With regards to Plague Doctor's heal, I think it's important to note that one health is plenty to get people out from Death's Door reliably, along with removing any DoTs that are going to throw that hero straight back into dying when it's their turn. Specifically for moments where someone's dying, it's an absolutely invaluable heal, especially if you know that hero is going to take 10+ damage really soon anyways.

    19:36 seriously, I always use Revel after that I for sure know there is end of run and I can just low stress level to zero points. It is the best camping skill for stress relief in the end of mission... You only need to plan the whole dungeon right and leave wood at the end in inventory. Sometimes leave treasure behind to grab it later, that's all.

The Houndmaster's Dog Treats interact with exactly one curio: The giant oysters in the Cove, which'll give you a hefty DODGE buff as a reward. I've practically never run vestal's mace bash unless it was on a level zero where I couldn't access the guild hall yet, but I built a team today where it actually came in handy. I was running crusader in rank four so he could lance the squishies in the back on the first few rounds, and I stuck mace bash on her so she could bonk the front line guys while she was waiting on crusader to bump her to rank three. It helped soften up the front lines, and it was handy in cases where the party got scrambled. This was a low level gold digging team (it also ran antiquarian and leper), so it's probably not that viable at higher levels, but for quick gold runs it was pretty great.

    I love grave robbers.
    I feel you really under estimate how good blight is at farming shamblers and high hp bosses.
    A nice team i like to use is
    Vestle with party heal.
    2 plague docs (switch 1 for grave robber or abom)
    With a Helion.
    Litterally just keep throwing blight at the boss, when an add appears, throw one blight at it then let the helion finish it off.
    Blight can effect everything, but can be hard ro la d, bit nearly every blight skill reduces targets blight resistance.
    Abom makes for a great double bloght bomb to row 2 and 3, with a plague doc hitting row 3 and 4, that means row 3 is going to die very quickly, thus moving row 4 to row 3 and that then gets hit with the aboms double blight.
    Leaving the rest of your damage dealers to deal with whatever is left at position 1.
    Nice vids though, i can see why you make the arguments you do XD

  • @AnemoneMeer
    @AnemoneMeer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Overall, I think you're underselling the Grave Robber a little bit and that she does deserve that S tier position. As you yourself said, the Top Shelf Tonic and Sharpened Letter Opener add a LOT of damage to her kit. Her Blight easily spikes up to 30+ damage per attack, at any position, with extremely strong accuracy and one of the better crit chances and amazing accuracy. Atop that, her crit stacking can get so high that she is functionally able to fill the role of a stress healer. Admittedly that's RNG atop RNG, but it's not at all uncommon for her to hot-streak crits, and in doing so, significantly reduce the stress of the party. Sure, it's not a jester, but it's still excellent.

  • @jackofastora8962

    On jester, I don’t really think he’s meant to be focused around finale, of course you should aim for the insane crit but you’re not exactly meant to go all in unless the fight naturally lasts that long, cause at any point you can use finale and it’ll do a large amount of damage.

    Early game I like to run both sacred scroll and Junia's head on vestal. It does interfere with her stun and damage, which isn't ideal, and she's more prone to stress obviously, but it pumps her healing up so much that I think it's worth it.

    front two hellions, grave robber, and vestal party is really sick, and the hellion revel is one of the best camp skills to bring for stress. If you camp at the end of a dungeon with two hellions both with revel, you can bring that same team out again on the next mission, rinse and repeat. Using the crimson court set on one hellion brings her speed and damage way up -into the S tier speed amount you mentioned, and on the second hellion have the thirsting blade and another trinket for more S tier speed and accuracy, and you have an incredible combo

    Lol, the comment of "ignore me, the demon cauldron is great the more I think about it" basically sums up my experience with it. Once you discover how good that stun is at 180% stun chance, it's hard to go back to making him use anything else (that being said, my occultist has hard skinned locked in so that helps with his survivability in rank 2). I'm pretty sure the trinket was nerfed recently, from 40% to 30%, and it still feels very strong.
    I think Occultist is my fav class just because it can do so many things, and it can do all of those things well, every one of his skills are worth using. Plus, he's almost a stress healer with just how often he gets those damn crits.

    My biggest issue with the grave robber is how much of a glass cannon she can be. Specifically a glass canon that doesn't always fire cannon balls, due to her base damage being relatively low and being reliant on crits for a lot of those deeper cuts. Her more constant movement causes her to get focused sporadically, so you end up deciding not to heal her cause shes only down 3 health, then she gets crit and is instantly at deaths door on the very next turn.

    Helion has fantastic synergy with Vestal. Helion takes a chunk out of rank 4. Somebody else may be needed to finish them off. Vestal stuns rank 3. Abom could do the same. And that is turn 1 being fairly uneventful. I auto-lock that +4 speed on turn on on Helion just for Iron Swan alone. I find myself building my parties around Helion and her not needing Barbaric Yawp. Bleed Out quite often replaces Wicked Hack. I love my Helions. Give them speed, accuracy and dodge and they will happily do whatever you ask them to do. Also, if you got two brain cells to rub together you know how to play plague doctor. If I have one in my Helion party, she may NOT open with Blinding Flash.
