    what was interesting about the video is how an expired film behaves the fact of scanning the film does not matter is another topic.

    Would Type G have the same outcome with the same expiration in same conditions? Would be interested to see you shoot Type G.

    Martin baumgarten processes this film in original chemistry for $38. I send him all expired film. He does vnf-1 also at a very affordable price

      I’ve asked about VNF-1 and according to him, the difference between doing it in E-6 and VNF-1 isn’t great enough for it to be worth it.
      So if you have VNF-1 stock, just do it in E-6.

  • @alicesavage69420
    @alicesavage69420 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    So this old Ektachrome can just be developed with the E6 process? And these specialty labs charge so much extra for it...

    • @FilmPhotographyProject
      @FilmPhotographyProject  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Old Ektachrome is E6....BUT...the film has a tough black carbon Rem Jet on it. Modern E6 does not have Rem Jet, meaning this old film can not be processed via new machines. Old Ektachrome 160 development is a hand process - hence the expense (for usual poor results).

    i have 2 ektachrome 160 exp. 1978 and a few agfachrome 40 exp 1987-1991. will there be a big difference between 160 and 40 iso after all those years?

    • @michaelraso
      @michaelraso 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. All depends on how the film was stored. Always a risk when dealing with super expired films.

  • @alexabadi7458

    Thanks, I have Ektachrome 160 A sound films (1986) I will try to process them myself.
    I did process thousand of 35mm films (slides and negative) years ago so I guess I can try to process expired Super 8 film.
    Should I over expose (100 ISO) the film when shooting the movie with my Canon 1014 XL-S ?

    • @FilmPhotographyProject
      @FilmPhotographyProject  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, overexpose - consider shooting ISO 80 or 50. You will need a special tank - filmphotographyproject.com/content/howto/2019/06/processing-movie-film-tank-manage/ - or have The FPP develop and scan - filmphotographystore.com/collections/fpp-scanning-services/products/process-scan-service-vintage-super-8-regular-8mm-50-ft-rolls

    Can someone please help me, Can I use a sound film cartridge in a non sound camera? Is it compatible a Kodak Ektachrome 160 sound color movie film with my Chinon Dart Super 5x, which suppose uses Kodak Ektachrome 40 movie film type A? Whoever can answer me this, will really help me a lot. Thank you.

      Hi. Can not use sound film cartridge in a silent Super 8 camera. Sincerely, best bet, steer clear of old expired film. Shoot some fresh stock! The FPP sells film and offers developing / scans too. filmphotographystore.com/collections/movie-film/super-8-film Best wishes, Mike

    Hi. I would like to know if you can help me before I take my Kodak Ektachrome 160 sound color movie film type a in to get developed. My son took my dad‘s old camera which had a cartridge in it. He was using it and recording something with it. Do you know if those cartridges, or film can be overwritten? Do you think he would have recorded over our old family memories? He used two different cartridges. I am just devastated. I just found this out 25 minutes ago and I have been crying thinking that those memories are probably gone forever. Please let me know when you get a moment. Thank you.

    • @FilmPhotographyProject
      @FilmPhotographyProject  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Film unlike tape can not be recorded over. Once exposed, each film roll must be developed.

    • @okok72277
      @okok72277 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Super 8 can't be double exposed, and it can't be accidentally exposed to light (save for like, 5 frames, which is a third of a second). For it to be exposed before development, you'd have to smash the cartridge open, which is a very intentional action. Get the film developed, you'll see the old video transfer to your son's video half way through

    how did you remove the carbon based layer? just by rubbing it and does that mess up the rest of the chemicals asking because i finally ordered a lomo tank from ebay

    • @michaelraso
      @michaelraso 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The "Rem Jet" just rubs off with your thumb. Use an industrial or basement sink. The Rem Jet is messy looking but does not harm chemistry. You can see me do it here - th-cam.com/video/osIYS7mayEE/w-d-xo.html

    • @therestorationofdrwho1865
      @therestorationofdrwho1865 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I usually do it with bi-carb soda. Loosens the majority of it but you still need to wipe away a little bit of it.

  • @JonnyGators
    @JonnyGators 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I tried this, but it came out a cyan negative with a thick layer of remjet still covering the film. I did attempt to wash the remjet off in a prebath, which after rinsing did come out black as it normally does - but still it was a think gray layer that I had to wipe off by hand, and seems to have prevented the color and reversal, leaving me with just a negative. Does that make sense? Any suggestions?

    • @webpa
      @webpa ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to say - it's based on how the film was stored. In 2024 it's best to not shoot this film at all. Unless home developing and scanning, almost no lab will develop this film.

      @@FilmPhotographyProject another thing I remember. Ektachrome was always cheap at my drugstore, this is why because nobody would buy it, so it would be expired by just a month..so with that being said alot of times you would find it in the discount bin for like 50 cents or a dollar so you could not pass it up, however to pay full price for it and it did cost more than kodachrome was unheard of for most people including my self.
